1933 ~ MATILDA WEISS ~ 2021

Mrs. Matilda J. Weiss passed away on September 20, 2021, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, at the age of 88 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Herbert (Herb) C. Weiss. Matilda leaves to cherish her memory her loving son, Keith (Kim); daughter-in-law, Dallas; five grandchildren, Andrew (Leah), Justin (Cara), Danielle (Tyrell) Sears, Quintin (Allison), Parker (Casey); eight great-grandchildren, Quade, Aven, McKinley, Genevieve, Tristan, Audrey, Roman and Laikyn; brother, Edwin (Shirley); sisters, Pauline, Violet, Elsie (Gerry); sisters in law, Sandra, Elaine, Gladys, Laura, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Matilda was predeceased by two infant children; son, Gerald; her parents, William and Matilda Kirchenman; brothers, Herbert, Alvin, Harold, and Edgar; sisters, Carolyn and Ella; sisters- in-law, Adela (Ted), Elsie (Gordon), brothers-in-law, Cliff, Fred and Walter. Matilda was born in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan on March 14, 1933. She was one of eleven siblings. She received her education in Linacre, then later on at Alexandra School in Medicine Hat Alberta. For a short while she was employed at Medalta Potteries. Matilda was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and a very proud member of St. Peter Lutheran Church Choir. It was during choir practice where she met Herb, they started courting, fell in love, and married in 1951. They enjoyed 63 wonderful years together. In 1956, Herb and Matilda took over the family farm. Two years later, they built a barn and raised chickens, pigs, milked cows and sold cream. Matilda looked after the animals while Herb worked at the Glass Factory as a Machinist to help make ends meet. They established Hat View Dairy in 1964, and it was during that year, working side by side in the new barn that they starting shipping fluid milk. Hat View Dairy Farm is still operating by Keith, Kim, their sons and daughters in law. One of Matilda and Herb’s proudest moments came in 2014 when the family was recognized at the Calgary Stampede and awarded Farm Family of the year for Cypress County. Matilda and Herb enjoyed traveling and many activities together, they were members of the Hat Swingers Square Dancing Club and danced for many years. They toured Europe with the club and had the honor of Square Dancing for Lady Di and Prince Charles. Some highlights of their travels included cruises to different countries with family and friends, and when the grandkids were old enough they took all five to Disneyland. Matilda, along with Herb, found great joy and were extremely proud when they could attend their grandchildren’s sporting events and other activities, she was their biggest fan and loved to tell others about their accomplishments. Matilda never said no to playing any type of card or board game when asked. She was an avid Bridge Player and loved to get together a few times a week to enjoy the game and visit with her fellow bridge playing friends. If the dealt hand wasn’t in her favor you could hear her exclaim “for pity’s sake” the group would chuckle and continue on with the game. Even though the dealt hand at the time was not the best, she always seemed to come out as a top player and had her high scores printed in the paper several times per week. Matilda was very dedicated to her church, loved the Lord and loved her church community, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all that had the privilege of knowing her. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Cheryl’s memory will live on in the hearts of her three children, Jodi (Robert) Faith, Renae (Kerry) Buss and Jason (Donna) Heidebrecht as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cheryl Ann Livingston was born the youngest of three children to Clarence and Isabelle July 29, 1943. She grew up in Milk River and Lethbridge. Heidi and Cheryl were married in Lethbridge April 1, 1961.
Cheryl’s love of travel and family shaped her and Heidi’s life of adventure. They saw every corner of the world and shared their love during many family trips. Cheryl loved trip planning; her anticipation and attention to detail was something those she travelled with always appreciated. She loved her family – her heart was fullest when she could love on and be generous to Heidi, her kids and their families. Grandma was a great supporter of whichever activity her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren participated in; she loved watching and cheering them on.
The Gideon ministry was a passion for Cheryl and Heidi; they shared scriptures around the world. On many trips an entire suitcase was filled with Bibles to distribute to eager contacts in other countries. Her faith in Jesus was important to her; she hosted or attended a weekly prayer cell for years; her family knew Grandma was praying for them and wanted them to know Jesus personally like she did.
Cheryl and Heidi enjoyed success in business; first in Brooks at Eastbrook Automotive and at Action Parts for over 40 years – many staff, customers and suppliers are counted as friends. Cheryl had a keen business sense; she was demanding while always fair. She was also an amazing listener who made friendships easily – showing her caring side in one-on-one interactions.
