1924 – JOSEPH LACZKOWSKI – 2021

Joe Laczkowski, 97, went to be with our Lord, Saturday, August 14th, 2021, while in the gentle care of St. Joseph's Home for the Aged. Joe came to Canada as a young boy from Yugoslavia (via Poland) with his mother, Albina (Tromba), and sister Mary, to join their father, Anthony (who had come months before them), to Schuler, Alberta (all of which have preceded Joe in death). Joe spent a number of years in his youth working in the coal mines. As a young man, the family eventually purchased farmland in the Seven Persons area, and it was here that Joe lived most of his life. After a brief courtship with a beautiful young lady, Florence (Smith) whom he met in Medicine Hat, Joe and Flo married and got busy raising a family and becoming a vital part of the Seven Persons community. Joe believed in community and farming and he spent many years involved with the Alberta Wheat Board and the Seven Persons 4-H Beef club. Joe is survived by his loving wife of almost 72 years, Florence (Smith), children Patricia (Bill) Drew, Tony (Ann) Laczkowski, Tim (Sherry) Laczkowski, Betty Laczkowski (Ron Wiggill), Paula (Jay) Richardson, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe and Florence tragically lost their eldest daughter Lucy in an automobile accident in 1968. Joe will be remembered for his delightful (and sometimes mischievous) sense of humor, his great singing voice, and his generosity. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Thursday, August 19th, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Iqbal Khurshid Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. ELEANOR HELENE WRIGHT

May 15, 1929 ~ August 13, 2021

It is with sadness the family announce the passing of their mother, Eleanor Helene Wright, beloved wife of the late Clifford Wright, at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice, Medicine Hat on Friday, August 13, 2021, at the age of 92 years. Eleanor was born and raised in Medicine Hat and spent almost her entire life in the city she loved. She met and married another Medicine Hat resident, Cliff Wright, in 1954. They built a life for themselves together and made many life long friendships. Eleanor was an incredible and inspiring mom. She treasured her children almost as much as they did her. She especially loved and excelled at her role as grandmother. Her intelligence, kindness and grace were evident to all who had the pleasure of meeting and enjoying her love of family, friends, and life. In between raising three daughters, Eleanor dedicated herself to public service and her community. She was elected and served as a school board trustee for the Medicine Hat Public Schools and a town councilor for the Town of Vulcan during the family’s time there. She was the first female political campaign manager in the city of Medicine Hat. Thanks to Jim Horsman, who saw how capable and intelligent she truly was. Along with her already busy schedule, she found time to be the president of Kinettes, serve on an Alberta planning board and be a part of a multitude of other positions that made everywhere she lived a better place. In her long life, she maintained her interest in the world around her. Always reading, listening and never judging. She set a standard for the rest of us to try and achieve. If family and public service were not enough to keep Eleanor busy, she enjoyed skiing, sailing and traveling with Cliff and anyone who would join in the fun. Eleanor will be missed by many but no more than her three daughters; Janet, Carol (Mike) and Tanis (Joel); grandchildren Blake, Meg (Pete), Jack (Cassy), Janet (Bryan), Josh (Kurt) and Brooke. Eleanor will be interred with Cliff, who predeceased her on September 19, 2018. The family wish to thank St. Joesph’s Home for all the kindness and love they extended to their mom in her last days. It was very special and meant so much to us. The Celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, August 20, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Jeff Lackie officiating. NOTE: Due to the rising Covid-19 cases in Medicine Hat, the family requests that those attending the Funeral Service for their mother, Eleanor that you wear a mask during the service to minimize risks to yourself and others. Should you require a mask, one will be provided for you. If friends so desire, please give to a charity or foundation that you believe exemplifies Eleanor’s life best.
