1920 – EDNA CASWELL – 2021

Edna Ann Caswell, beloved wife of the late Albert “Ted” Caswell, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Home on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at the age of 100 years. She lived in her home until the fall of 2017, when she reluctantly moved to the Bow Island Seniors Home for six months before settling at the River Ridge in Medicine Hat for her last three years. A special thank you to the Bow Island Seniors Home and River Ridge. She really appreciated being treated so well. Edna was predeceased by her parents Alma and Axel Mattson; her husband Ted on May 8, 2008; three brothers, Erling (Martha) Mattson, Harold (Margaret) Mattson, Chester Mattson and one sister Ruth (Mike) Bohnet. Although Ted and Edna had no children of their own, she is lovingly remembered by many nephews, nieces and a special neighbor Liz Hyland Worley. Edna was born at White Sulpur Springs, Montana on August 28, 1920; she then moved to Orion with her family where she was raised and educated. Edna enjoyed helping neighbors at threshing time, and cooking for the big crews they needed. She then went to work for Chay Gilchrist for almost two years, first at the Cross Z Ranch and then at the Lost River Ranch. Following that she came home and cooked for the Sabin Gogolinski family. On July 2, 1942 she came to Bow Island, thanks to her last teacher, Muriel Rolefson who encouraged her to move there. She enjoyed working at the Myrtle Hotel for Mrs. Ridgedale, who treated her so well. Edna married Ted Caswell on November 18, 1944, at the Fifth Avenue United Church in Medicine Hat. Together they farmed one year on the Caswell farm north of Bow Island, until Ted’s older brother, Ernest, came home after the war. Ted managed a service station for Harry Hines until they bought their own land and started farming again. They enjoyed the mixed farm until 1974, when they sold it. Edna was honored to be a Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion. Her comment: “Bow Island is a good place to live”. Edna enjoyed gardening, baking, curling, carpet bowling and of course her painting. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, July 28th from 12:30 – 1:25 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. with Life Celebrant, Pat Grisonich. Everyone is welcome to attend. The service will be live streamed, and family and friends who are unable to attend are invited to watch the service by searching for the Pattison Funeral Home Youtube page. The video will go live 10 minutes prior to service time and will remain on the youtube page for future viewing. Interment will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery. 1942 ~ EILEEN FERGUSON (nee: HASCHAK) ~ 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Eileen Ferguson, but it is with great honour and privilege that we celebrate her life. Eileen will be forever cherished by her husband of 57 years, Bob Ferguson, daughters Shannon Bissanti of Austin, Texas and Janice (Jayme) Hepfner of Calgary. Eileen was blessed with five grandchildren, Kali, Amelie and Bella Bissanti of Austin as well as Jada and Jake Hepfner of Calgary. Eileen also leaves her beloved sister Anne Chanda of Lethbridge, cousin Delores Ryan, nieces Lynn (Geoff) Chanda, Lee Anne (Dean) Jetten, Michele (Bob) Ross and Kelly (Ron) Watts; nephews Roy Chanda and Michael (Deb) Ryan. Eileen also leaves many special friends, teaching colleagues, wonderful neighbours and so many people in the Medicine Hat and church community that knew and loved her for her beautiful, kind, compassionate and considerate spirit. Eileen was predeceased by her son Jeff Ferguson, brother-in-law LeRoy Chanda and parents Michael and Jolana Haschak.

Eileen, (born Ilona Hoschak) was born in Medicine Hat on May 4, 1942. She was extremely proud of her Slovakian heritage and her Medicine Hat roots. She moved to Lethbridge when she was 7 years old where she completed the rest of her schooling and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School. Eileen moved to Edmonton and attended the University of Alberta where she received her teaching diploma and began a proud career as a teacher in Lethbridge, High River, Grande Prairie and Medicine Hat.

Eileen met and fell in love with Bob Ferguson while living in Lethbridge. There are many stories of their adventures together over the years. Shortly after they married in 1964, Bob and Eileen moved to High River where Eileen taught first grade and Bob worked for Imperial Oil. Later that year they welcomed their son Jeff. Bob was transferred to Grande Prairie where Shannon joined the family. Imperial Oil also took them to Edmonton where they had their last child, Janice. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Tsawwassen, BC, where they had a very active lifestyle and many happy memories. The Ferguson family moved back to St. Albert a few years later and then a final move back to her birth place of Medicine Hat, Alberta in 1978. Eileen was a very active volunteer in the children’s schools and was grateful she had the opportunity to be home with her children. In each of these communities she always had such a wonderful network of lovely friends and neighbours and was known for her generosity, her humour and above all else…her story telling. Eileen loved to tell a good story and she had many.

Eileen was instrumental working with Bob at the Esso gas station as well as their Rent-a Wreck, Fun time Party Rentals and Discount Car rental businesses, but her greatest pride was working for the Medicine Hat Catholic school system as a substitute teacher. Eileen was often requested to sub and for many was a first choice to sub as she was known for her work ethic and kind spirit. The Ferguson family would often gather in the living room after a day of subbing to hear of the stories with her students and colleagues. These experiences brought her tremendous joy and we are so very proud that she was still getting calls to sub until her passing.

Eileen was truly an unforgettable soul. She was loved by all and she will be tremendously missed by those who had the honour of knowing her. She will be cherished forever. We sincerely appreciate the outpour of support from friends and family.

The celebration of life will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend.

2000 ~ BAILEY MAE DOLLIMONT ~ 2021

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beautiful Bailey Mae. Bailey passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 15th, 2021. She will be lovingly remembered by her parents, Jim and Colleen Dollimont; brothers, James (Erin) Dollimont and Michael (Mags) Dollimont; niece, Isabel Dollimont; nephews, Jackson Dollimont and Liam Dollimont; grandparents, Roy and Merle Tuchscherer and Ann Dollimont; as well as numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear family friends. She was predeceased by her “Poppy”, James “Jim” Dollimont; her Auntie Sharon; and cousin, Patricia. From the time Bailey was born she was strong-willed, independent, and free-spirited; with a smile that would light up any room. Being outdoors with her “babin’ suit” on was always her favourite thing to do and for many years it was her preferred article of clothing. The beach was always her happy place. As Bailey was growing she took an interest in music and theatre, winning many awards at music festivals, and competing at the provincial level twice. She played Molly in a production of “Annie”, Ursula in the “The Little Mermaid”, and Maisy Bird in “Seussical Jr.”. Bailey loved all types of music from the “Oldies”, to Disney, to psychological and true-life dramas (which she had an uncanny memory for). Her favourite music style was Classic Rock and she loved sharing it with family and friends while visiting and enjoying a “cold one”. Bailey’s dream was to become a forensic psychologist, thus having an extreme interest in macabre individuals of the past and present, studying and learning the finest details of “what made them tick”. Her biggest love and passion were always her family, spending time with them in her laid back, no fuss way; just enjoying being together. She was a straight-shooter, honest and loyal friend, and had the very truest heart. Bailey had a deeper understanding of life, was an old soul and was wise beyond her years, never wanting to burden anyone with anything. Her concern was always for everyone else and she had the most beautiful spirit. Our beautiful Bailey is loved beyond measure and will live forever in our hearts, minds, and memories. She will always be with us — we will never be apart. A private celebration of Bailey’s life was held yesterday SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB with Father Rodel Abanto, Celebrant. Memorial gifts in Bailey’s ‘s memory may be made to the PLC Unit 38, Suite 800, 11012 Macleod Trail SE, Calgary, AB T2J 6A5, Telephone: (403)943-0615.
