1930 ~ BETTY MAY ~ 2021

The family of Kathleen “Betty” May are saddened to announce her passing on May 31, 2021 at the age of 91 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 64 years, William May; son Clark May and son Dean (Delaine) May and their sons, Landon (Ellen) May and Evan May as well as three great granddaughters, Lily, Robin and Summer. Betty was born to Clarence and Kate Cochrane on February 11, 1930. The family lived in the Merryflat district, south of Maple Creek and that is where she received her early education. After finishing her high school in Maple Creek, she worked for a time as a nurses aid and later at the Bank of Montreal in Maple Creek. In June of 1957, she married William and together they lived on his farm at Golden Prairie until 1983, when they moved to Medicine Hat. In her younger days, she enjoyed sports especially curling and bowling. She served as a volunteer at the Medicine Hat Hospital Gift Shop and was a member of the United Church in Golden Prairie and later Westminster United Church in Medicine Hat. As another pastime, she enrolled in organ lessons and practised playing hymns and old country songs. She looked forward to coffee time with her numerous friends. Throughout her life, she enjoyed and had a special love for children. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Grace (Harry) Lightfoot and two brothers, Errol (Lily) Cochrane and Robert Cochrane. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Masks are mandatory) A private family graveside will be held at Hillside Cemetery on Friday, June 4, 2021. You can shed a tear that she is gone,
Or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back,
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her,
Or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
Or you can happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her and only that she is gone,
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can close your mind and cry, be empty and turn your back,
Or you can do what she would want:
Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
