HOWARD "HOWIE" RALPH BUFFUM
1942 -2021
Nicknames: Thumper, Trouble
Howard "Howie "Ralph Buffum of Medicine Hat, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021 at the age of 79 years following a short battle with cancer. He will be missed by his children Kim (Stacey) Fishley, Travis (Jennifer) Buffum; ex-wife, Joan Buffum; grandchildren, Lauren (Kaiden) Fishley, Morgan (Francis) Fishley, Davis (Miranda) Fishley and Seleena, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Howard was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Bessie Buffum; brother, Richard Buffum; sister, Darlene Buffum. Howard was born and raised in Medicine Hat, by his parents Harold and Bessie Buffum. As a young man, Howie excelled in Track and Field, Gymnastics, and also completed Recreation Leadership Training. He enjoyed waterskiing at Elkwater and assisted his dad with building the cabin. At the encouragement of his brother, he also joined the Sea Cadets for a short period oftime. Howard met Joan; they were married in 1965 and started their family a few years later. He played hockey (league and Oldtimers) and was especially happy to assist in teaching at the Oldtimers Hockey School. Howie also enjoyed golf league and participated in tournaments, winning many awards. Howie worked in many different fields but had a love for cars – even owning his own antique Cadillac. He loved animals and over the years enjoyed his pet dogs, skunk, birds, fish, and looked forward to the deer and Blue Jays that would visit his feeder and bird bath daily. Other hobbies included growing his Sweet Chelsea tomatoes, oil painting, doing word puzzles, and playing a good game of Lamzee or Crib. Howie lived by his own rules and lived life in his own way. The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to the staff at Riverview Care Center and St. Joseph's Home (Carmel Hospice) for their excellent friendship and care. In honouring Howie's wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A private family graveside service will take place at Hillside Cemetery, Wednesday, May 26, 2021. On May 16, 2021 Alma Mansell peacefully slipped away from us after a valiant two-year battle with lung cancer. She was well loved by everyone whose life she touched.
