1932 ~ ANNIE FRENCH ~ 2021

Annie (Stetar) French of Consul, Saskatchewan passed away unexpectedly surrounded by family on March 17, 2021. Annie was born on Sept 26, 1932 in Consul, Sask, to Thomas and Anna Stetar and this is where her journey through life began.

Annie grew up south of Consul where she spent much of her life farming. Annie married Joe French on March 28, 1955 in Havre, MT. They live in the Village of Consul, and later moved to the farm East of Consul where she lived until she passed. Annie was your typical hardworking Canadian farm wife helping every step of the way. Annie ran the restaurant in Consul off and on for decades as she loved to cook and interact with people. Everyone who stopped in at the restaurant will remember Annie’s cooking, big heart and wonderful smile. Annie and Joe raised three children, William (Billy) French, Joanne Behrman (French), and Thomas (Tom) French in the Village of Consul. Annie had a soft spot in her heart for family, friends and animals. Annie remained active on the farm until 2015 looking after her pigs. When the last of the pig was sold, Annie decided to take up cat ranching, as it was a less vigorous feeding routine than the pigs. For all that visited her, we got to see her big herd of cats that only she could pet. They kept her busy for hours playing with them and watching them play.

Annie had a sweet side but only few saw the card shark inside of her! You always had to keep a couple loonies in your pocket when you went to visit because baked goods and rummy were always on the menu. Annie loved to curl and in her younger years she was one to be reckoned with. As Annie got older you could bet if it was curling season, the Scotties or the Brier were on her television. Annie loved to write, whether it was in her diary or letters to family and friends near and far, if you sent her a letter you would always get one back.

Annie was predeceased by her husband, Joe French; son, Billy French; grandson, Trevor Behrman; brother, Louis Stetar; brothers-in-law, Paddy French and Johnny French. Annie leaves to remember her, daughter, Joanne (Jim) Behrman; son, Tom (Marjorie) French; grandchildren, Renee (Damion) Grieman, Trent (Haley) Behrman, Jodi (Michael-Jon) French, Ryan French, Corey (Richelle) French, Megan French, and Darcy French; great-grandchildren, Wren Behrman, Crue Behrman, and Hattie French; sisters-in-law, Saloma French, Irene French, June Stetar; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Annie’s name to the Consul Curling Club and the Consul Ambulance Service. As per Annie’s request there will be no service. DAVE ‘Dirty Dave’ ANDERSON

 

July 10, 1946 – March 10, 2021

 

It is with a heavy heart that Debbie Kowal announces the passing of her beloved husband, Robert David Anderson at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at the age of 74 years. Along with Debbie, Dave will be lovingly remembered by his children: Cameron Anderson (Christy), Boyd Anderson, Jason (Tory) Kowal, Penny Kowal, Sarah Botting (nee Saubak); step-son, Bradley Jacques; grandchildren: Nash and Lawson Botting, Taylor and Riley Anderson, Kale, Nevada, Nathan, Kain and Noah Kowal; great-granddaughter, his little princess, Addison; siblings, William Ross (Rosemarie) Anderson and Joanna Lee Godfrey; nieces and nephews, Guy (Terry) Groves, JB Groves, Jimmy-Joe Groves, Christy Godfrey, Travis Godfrey, Ryan (Trina) Anderson, Tyler (Lisa) Anderson, Johnny Drummond, Samantha Eirich, Jamie (Alex) Vas Lawson, Jade Vas Lawson, Jeffrey Vas Lawson, Jared Vas Lawson and their families as well as the mothers of his children, Judy Anderson, Karen Saubak and Monica Jacques. Dave was predeceased by his mother, Janet Anderson (nee Pepper); father, Robert; Anderson brother-in-law, Richard Godfrey; nephew, Duane (Kathi) Groves and his step-daughter, Crystal Jacques. Dave was affectionately known as ‘Dirty Dave’ to his friends and family. He loved his motorbike, ‘Sweet Misery’ (The Widowmaker) 2000 softail, guns, old cars, new cars, bars, parties, women and a good scrap. He worked hard, played hard and he knew how to love. Dave’s eyes welled up with tears at the sight of a baby, any baby; human, puppies, kittens, deer and bush bunnies. A Celebration of Dave’s life will be held in the summer of 2021, where a motorcycle procession will be held in his honour. Further details will be announced closer to the date. LONG

Fredrick Robert Long (Fred) passed away Tuesday March 16, 2021 at the age of 77, after a year long battle with cancer. Fred will be lovingly remembered by his wife Beth Davies Long, daughter Kahney Long, step daughters Kim Gibbons (Ken), Carmen Carr, and step son Robert Baila, grandsons Teegan Brouillard and Jack Gibbons and granddaughter Ruby Carr, brother Ken Long (Jan) and his many friends around the world.

Fred was born in Medicine Hat in 1944 and graduated from Medicine Hat High School. In 1963 he headed to Oregon where he completed a Master’s Degree in Social Science and taught education psychology at the University of Oregon. He then spent several years teaching at the Oregon Episcopal School in Portland. His students still contacted him and the many calls, video chats, emails and texts over the past months were of great comfort to him.

Fred moved back to Canada and taught in Golden British Columbia, and in 1979 became Assistant Director of Government Affairs and Professional Development with the BC Teachers Federation.

In 1981 Fred joined the mediation branch of the BC Ministry of Labour where he specialized in education sector mediation.

In 1993 Fred took on the role of Chief Executive Officer of the Education and College Relations Commission in Ontario, and then as Director of Human Resources for the Education Improvement Commission for the Government of Ontario. That is where he met his wife Beth, who was working as an Education Officer for the Commission.

In 2011 Fred and Beth moved back to enjoy their retirement in Medicine Hat. Fred was an avid traveller, golfer and a good and loyal friend to those who knew him.

A memorial celebration of life will be held for Fred at a safe time in the future at the Connaught Golf Club.
