1924 ~ STEVE UNGER ~ 2020

Steve Unger of Medicine Hat, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the age of 96 years, beloved husband of the late Edna Unger. He leaves to cherish his memory three children, Michael, Barry (Vickie) and Neil (Noel); ten grandchildren and their families: Tatum (Tyson) (Ryker, Chloe and Presley); Mikalene; Tikal (Mustapha); Schon (Lesley) (Cole, Emily); Julie (Trevor) (Baylee); Tiffany (Brett) (Lily, Cooper); Travis (Brandon) (Devon, Dion); Ryan (Kerri) (Finlay); Kyle; Danielle (Kyle) (Porter); three sisters, Gladys Chapman, Eva (Frank) Welfl and Joan (Dale) Willard and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Edna, his parents Minnie and Frank Unger and seven brothers, Pete, Percy (WWII), Mervin, Dave, Archie, Eddie and Ken; four sisters Anne, Tina, Amanda and Jean. Steve was born at Laird, Saskatchewan September 4, 1924. Steve’s family moved to Wembley, Alberta when he was young and grew up on the family farm homestead. He later came to Medicine Hat to work and then met Edna, the love of his life, whom he married and raised their family together. Steve and Edna were married for 63 years until Edna’s passing February 1, 2013. Thank you to all at the Cypress View Home staff and the residents who cared for Steve while he lived there and a special heartfelt thank you to all at St. Joseph’s Home for their wonderful care for Steve in his final days. Raymond Harvey Seitz of Medicine Hat, Alta. passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at the age of 90 years. ALWIN FRANZ

October 20, 1927 ~ December 11, 2020

Alwin Franz, beloved husband of 67 years to Marianne Franz, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020. He was the loving father of three children: Monica (Gerald) Wittevrongel, Walter (Deceased) and Helga (Lorne) Morisseau. He will be lovingly remembered by seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren as well as three sisters, Wilma Kopp, Elvira Krenz and Gertrude Johansen as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Germany. Alwin was born in Pomasan, Bessarabia in 1927. During WWll, he was taken as a captive by Russian forces and kept in captivity for five years before returning to his family on Christmas Day in 1949. Alwin immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1952, working as a plasterer. He started farming in 1954 and truly loved his farm and working the land. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the service will be by invitation only. The celebration of Alwin’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. The Funeral Service will be live-streamed on Thursday, December 17, 2020, starting at 2:00 p.m. (MST).
