1939 ~ ED STURM ~ 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, Ed Sturm on Thursday, July 23, 2020. He died peacefully at the Medicine Hat Hospital, surrounded by his three loving children. Ed lost his wife and best friend, Ruth, in January 2010. They shared nearly 50 years of marriage. He will forever be in the hearts of his children, Bonnie Sturm of Nanton, Sandy (Matt) Read of Redcliff and Micheal Sturm of Calgary. Ed grew up the only child of John and Mathilda, on their farm south of Elkwater. They later moved to Medicine Hat where dad enjoyed the city life. He became involved in the militia, car club and shenanigans with his buddies. Once dad had a family, his main activities were camping and fishing. There are many, many fond memories of trips to Reesor Lake, Beauvais Lake, and Glacier Park. Ed’s main employment were as a Honey Boy bread delivery man, secretary- treasurer of the Moose Lodge and clerk for the A.L.C.B. No matter the job or task, he was always a hard and conscientious worker. His retirement years included lots of camping and fishing, many card and board games with family and friends and time with Sheba cat. We are proud that he became so tech-savvy for someone his age and was adept at texting, facebooking, on-line banking/ shopping and making CD’s and DVD’s for friends and family. In fact, a video of his life, created by him, is available to view on the Pattison Funeral Home website link https://youtu.be/xAVIDMuXzW8. Unfortunately, in the last few years, dad faced many health challenges (without complaint), the biggest being TLGL leukemia. In 2017, ill-health made a move to Chinook Village necessary. Dad enjoyed the companionship there and felt well-cared for by the wonderful staff. The family is extremely grateful to his “medical team” Dr. Benke and the exceptional staff at the Cancer Centre; Dr. Osborne and Chelisa at HealthWORX and recently the staff on 4W. Also, thanks to the Carry Drive Lab, Northlands Co-op Pharmacy, Respiratory Home Care Solutions and Day Medical at the hospital. A private family graveside service will take place at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery. If desired, please consider a donation to the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Clinic (make cheques payable to the Medicine Hat and District Health Foundation) 666 5th Street SW, Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 4H6 – please specify department. To e-mail an expression of sympathy, please direct it to: office@pattisonfuneralhome.com subject heading: Ed Sturm, or you may visit http://www.pattisonfuneralhome.com and leave a message of condolence.
