1922 ~ SCHOLASTICA HAMMEL ~ 2020

It is with deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Scholastica Hammel, our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother in her own home with her daughters by her side on Sunday, April 12, 2020 at the age of 97 years, beloved wife of the late Martin Hammel. She leaves to cherish her memory two children, Angeline Schnell and Josephine Miller; eight grandchildren, Gerry (Sherry) Schnell, Jim (Sherry) Schnell, Anita Jenkins, Martina McCaskill, Darcy Lawrence, Dion Lawrence, Clint (Brent) Lawrence and Colin (Renee) Miller; fourteen great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father Ludwig in 1927 and mother Magdalena Bokamyer on 1968; her step father, Peter Schile in 1972; her husband Martin on September 29, 1984; her daughter, Helen Lawrence on November 29, 2009; sons-in-law, Joe Lawrence on January 6, 2006 and Frank Miller on March 8, 2009; her brother, Martin (Susie) Bokamyer in 1994; her sisters, Pauline in infancy, Barbara (Pius) Deringer in 1972, Genevieve (George) Schile in 2003, Elizabeth (Peter) Stappler in 2005, Margaret Bechal in 2010, Anna Marie (John) Hammel in 2204 and Lena (Ludwiga) Bengert in 2018; three step brothers, Joe Schile, George Schile and Andrew Schile; five step sisters, Mary Bedard, Margaret Zerr, Elizabeth Hammel, Anna Hammel and Magdalene Stappler. Scholastic was born on November 16, 1922 and married Martin on September 29, 1941. Scholastica was an independent woman who loved her family and enjoyed everything that anyone did for her. She lived a long life and we feel very blessed to have shared with her so many wonderful memories. Her faith was important, she prayed the rosary faithfully daily. In keeping with her faith a private funeral mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish and the interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. 1923 ~ MATHILDA SAUTNER ~ 2020

Mathilda ‘Tillie’ Margaret Sautner of Medicine Hat passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2020 at the age of 97 years, beloved wife of the late John Sautner. She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Shirley Vallette, Marlene (Dale) Myrhaugen, Melvin (Debbie) Sautner and Sherry (Bill) Bayley; nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Tillie was born on the family farm south of Prelate, SK on January 6, 1923 to Hilarius and Mary Eva Mardian (Resch). She married John Sautner of Mendham, Sk on January 4, 1944. In 1954 they moved to a farm two miles south of Flaxcombe. They opened Sautner’s Esso in Flaxcombe in 1961 where Tillie operated the restaurant. After John’s passing in 1978, Tillie sold the farm and moved to Medicine Hat in 1980 and she became an active member of the Moose and Veiner Centre. She enjoyed playing cribbage and slow pitch and participated in both at the Alberta Senior Olympic Games multiple times over the years. Tillie loved to square dance and was a member of the Medicine Hat Country Squares and would show off her artistic skills in the outfits she made. She also liked bowling, shuffleboard, curling, and fishing and was very proud to show off the numerous trophies and medals she won in these activities. There will be no formal funeral service and internment will take place at the Kindersley Cemetery at a later date. 1931 ~ FRANK LANZ ~ 2020

Francis “Frank” Michael Lanz was born on April 8, 1931 in Empress, Alberta and passed away on April 8, 2020 on his 89th birthday with his loving family by his side. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Rose; two children, Joyce (Russell) McBride and Glenn Lanz (Susan Becker); his grandchildren, Michael McBride and his children Bayleigh and Abigail and their mother Jennifer; Mason (Shauna) McBride and their children Austin and Ava; Justin (Lyndsay) McBride and their children Cameron, Oliver and Carter; his foster son Donald Testawich; his brothers, John (Phyllis), Tony (Rose) and Edward (Geri); sisters, Veronica Sehn, Mary Bitz, Frances (Pius Gaetz) and Kathy (Russ) Peterson; sisters-in-law, Irene, Joan and Penny as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Erasmus and Katherine Lanz; one sister Magdelaine “Maggie” Hasper; brothers, Leo, Balzar and Benny; brothers-in-law, Ralph Aberle, Tim Sehn and Jerome Bitz; his foster son David Testawich and three nephews, Lyle Sehn, Reggie Lanz and Barry Aberle. Dad had a passion for camping, fishing and his beloved Medicine Hat Tigers. He was a goal judge and penalty box official from inception of the Tigers to his last year in 2017. Dad’s love of camping took he and mom to Yuma, Arizona for five years with their good friends Jim and Rose Pudwell. His great grandchildren were important to him and he loved spending time with them. Frank also enjoyed going to the A & W every morning with his coffee buddies. His love for Golden Sheaf Park “Rattlesnake” was his go to sanctuary. His transportation was his golf cart and was the talk of the campground. Frank was a longtime employee of Ogilvie Flour Mill as well as spending 29 years employed with the City of Medicine Hat. Frank’s family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses on the 5th floor of the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital as well as the staff of St. Joseph’s Home (Carmel Hospice) for the care and compassion shown to all of us. The funeral mass for invited family will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Tomy Manjaly celebrant.
Due to restrictions in place regarding COVID- 19 from the Chief Medical Officer of Health – funeral services are now limited to no more than 15 attendees including family.
Family and Friends are invited to remotely attend the funeral mass through live streaming on our Facebook page – Pattison Funeral Home and Crematorium.
A private family interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. FRANK MEYER

1935 ~ 2020

Frank Meyer, beloved husband of Mary Meyer, passed away at the Riverview Care Centre in Medicine Hat on Saturday, April 11, 2020, at the age of 85 years. Along with Mary, his devoted wife of 63 years, Frank leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Kelly (Cindy Anton), Kevin (Tammy) both of Medicine Hat and Kerry (Darlene) of Redcliff; ten grandchildren: Kelly Ryan (Jodi), Nevada (Bill), Taylor (Chase), Devon (Nathan), Jimmy (Mary), Frank, Bryce (Holly), Brianne, Ashley (Derek), Milo (Tatum); 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Ken Meyer; sisters, Marie and Eleanor as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Rose; his cherished daughter, Kimberly; brother, Jake and sister, Irene. Frank was born on January 7, 1935, in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan and married Mary Miller on November 23, 1957. They lived in Medicine Hat and farmed in Fox Valley while he also worked in the Oil Industry. In 1974, they settled in Orion, AB., where they purchased a farm-ranch operation. In 1994, they returned to Medicine Hat to retire. Frank loved baseball but auction sales were his passion. His famous words to Mary were; “I couldn’t pass it up.” Frank will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. A special thank you to Dr. Hirsch, Helen, Lisa and all of the staff at Riverview for the care and compassion they gave to Frank. It was greatly appreciated.
