LODON, DIANA FAY (nee MARKIN)
January 7, 1947 – March 3, 2020
In all the tears that fall for Diana, lie reflections of her kindness, her inner beauty, and her unfailing grace. Throughout the arc of her life, as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, cousin, and friend, she shared her generous heart with all. Diana was magnetic to children, and they gravitated to her orbit like planets circling the sun. She provided a sense of family to young people far from home; she was quick to recognize the faces of strangers as kin. Diana was a sensitive soul who reached out naturally with tenderness and compassion to alleviate the suffering of others. She will continue to inspire us who knew her to enter each day with an open, welcoming heart. Diana leaves to cherish in her memory her dear husband Norman, her sons Rodney (Laura) and Darren (Victoria), her brothers Allan Markin (Patricia), and Jerry Markin, and sister Kathryn MacPhail (Keith) as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Florence and Andrew Markin, Norman's parents Micheal and Margaret Lodon and many aunts and uncles who held a special place in her heart. Born in Calgary Alberta, as a child, Diana was an avid dancer, and baton twirler. Although tap dancing was her favourite, at family gatherings she was often asked to perform her Russian Cossack dance, to the amazement of all who watched. As a high school cheerleader, she caught the eye of a handsome football player from a rival high school team. In their own version of Westside Story, Diana and Norm fell in love and married in 1966. The boys were born soon after and the family relocated to 'The Hat'. While raising their young family, Diana began her journey in Early Childhood Education. She later acquired Doolittle's Daycare which provided a great service to Medicine Hat Hospital staff and their children. Her love and devotion to children was one of her greatest passions. She was also fond of reading, gardening, curling, bowling, puzzles and watching hockey. Diana and Norm opened their hearts and their home to the many Medicine Hat Tiger players they billeted for over twelve years. Diana attacked life with boundless energy and her take charge attitude will be dearly missed. She was strong willed and determined, which was very evident as she met her final days. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of 4 West, Dr.Durand, Dr. Duke and the Pure North S'Energy Foundation. A celebration of Diana's life will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend. Condolences may be forwarded through
