1937 ~ IRENE ARNDT ~ 2020
ARNDT, Irene Rose, nee Kruger, passed quietly into the next life on Friday, January 10, 2020, with Herbert, her husband of 62 years, at her bedside. Missing Irene intensely are daughters Lorna Arndt and Corinne (Wes) Callihoo and cherished granddaughter Danielle Callihoo. Irene also leaves beloved sister Esther (Emil) Krause and sister-in-law Eraine Jansson, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Irene was predeceased by her parents John and Rosina Kruger, brother and sister-in-law Emil and Rose Kruger, nephew Robert Kruger and in-laws Ewald and Danaida Arndt and CR Erland Jansson. Born September 25, 1937, Irene grew up on a farm near Hilda Alberta, moving to Medicine Hat with her parents for high school. She was an active volunteer in her church communities at the local and regional levels and took great pleasure in all of her family’s interests and activities. The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Jeffrey Bratvold, and Natashia Dubourt for their kindness and care over many years and to the medical professionals at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, Emergency, ICU and 4West units. The Funeral Service will be held at ST. PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 515 Sprague Way SE, on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ken Edel officiating. A private interment will take place. 1943 ~ BERNICE KUNZ ~ 2020
Bernice Kunz, beloved wife of Terry Pettyjohn of Medicine Hat, passed away on Thursday, January 9th, 2020 at the age of 76 years. Also left to cherish her memory her children, Blaine Kunz (Cindy Enslen) of Medicine Hat, Crystal Graham of Sylvan Lake and Jason Kunz (Sandy Bell) of Medicine Hat; three grandchildren, Slater Graham, Jasmine Graham and Sabian Kunz; two brothers, Ronald (Lynda) Elle of Calgary and Brian (Angela) Elle of Medicine Hat; two sisters, Leona Herter of Medicine Hat and Linda Horton of Calgary; brother-in-law, Jim (Marge) Kunz of Medicine Hat; Terry’s family, Royce Pettyjohn of Maple Creek, Cal Pettyjohn, Terina (Laurie) Sommerfeld and their children, Lukas and Alissa and Alex (Karla) Pettyjohn and their children, Ethyn and Koltyn, all of Medicine Hat; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bernice was predeceased by her first husband, Gerald Kunz; her parents, Albert and Mary Elle; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Hertha Kunz; and two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Herter and Jay Horton. Bernice was born on November 20th, 1943 in the Medicine Hat Hospital. She was raised on a farm 8 miles south of Richmound, Saskatchewan and received her education in rural school of Dunbrody. In 1962 Bernice married Gerald Kunz at St. Peter Lutheran Church; they were married for 41 years at the time of Gerald's passing in 2003. During most of their marriage they lived and worked on the farm in the RM of Richmound, Saskatchewan. In 1996 they bought a house in Medicine Hat and semi-retired. Bernice still helped on the family farm right up until 2018. She also kept busy with volunteering. Whether it be the local 4-H Club, curling board, teaching Sunday School, baking and serving at church functions, family reunions and the Good Samaritan Society, her vibrant soul kept her going. She loved to socialize and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was a proud L.W.M.L. member. On March 2nd, 2013 she married Terry Pettyjohn. Bernice loved to travel with family, friends and Terry. Some of her favourite places were Europe, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Dominican Republic, Palm Springs and Florida. Bernice also enjoyed working in her gardens, canning, freezing her produce, baking, golfing, curling, fishing and collecting anything with roosters and chickens. She will be missed dearly by all her family and many friends. The family would like to thank all the staff at St. Joseph’s Home for taking such good care of Mom and making her short stay as comfortable as possible. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, on Monday from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at ST. PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 515 Sprague Way SE, on Tuesday, January 14th, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ken Edel officiating. A private interment will take place at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery.
