1918 ~ MARJORIE MIDDLETON ~ 2019
It is with heartfelt sadness and joy for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Marjorie Middleton on Friday, October 11th, 2019 at the age of 100 years. Marj would have been 101 on November 7. Marjorie was predeceased by her mother, Isabela (Atkinson) Middleton who passed away when Marjorie was 3 years old. Her little brother, Charles Edward passed away when she was 8. Her father, Edward Middleton and her sister, Agnes Alice each reached the age of 98 years. Marjorie was an extremely intelligent and caring woman. She was a registered nurse with a diploma in teaching and supervision. She worked 10 years at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Second Street SE and then 20 years for the Medicine Hat Health Unit. She was a long-time member of St. John's Presbyterian Church and held various offices in the local Women's Missionary Society. Her church family was very important to her. Through her actions and conversations she taught everyone who came in contact with her to appreciate the simple things in life. She was always keen to learn and was very up to date with current events. She was a joy to visit and spend time with. Marj had many happy friendships over the years. A number of cousins and their families she was happy to call family. They were a joy to her. The surviving cousins are, Lorna Phaff, Robert and Gail Pender, Ronald Douglas, all of Medicine Hat; Ann and John Sheer of Strathmore, AB and Judy and Michael Vincent of Canmore, AB. Grateful thanks to Tanis and Al Garden of Medicine Hat and Margot and Terry Mack of Regina, SK. Very special thanks to Steve and Debra Phaff of Irvine for their much appreciated care of her. Thank you for Valleyview Age Care for being Marj's home for the past several years. A Graveside Service will be held at HILLSIDE CEMETERY, Gershaw Drive SW & 10 Avenue SW, on Monday, October 21st, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Nancy Cocks officiating. Anyone attending can meet at the gates of the cemetery at 12:45 p.m. and follow Saamis Memorial's car to the graveside. A reception will be held immediately following at Saamis Creekside Centre. 1931 ~ GURNAM GILL ~ 2019
Gurnam Kaur Gill of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Chanan Gill, passed away on Sunday, October 13th, 2019 at the age of 87 years. Gurnam leaves to cherish her memory her children, Jazz (Rani), Kam (Reena), and Iqbal (Bhagwant) Grewal; grandchildren, Sherry (Mike), Jesse, Sunny, Tina, (Boyed), Celine, Gaga (Ritu), Sandy, and Menu; great-grandchildren, Vontae and Damon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gurnam was predeceased by her husband, Chanan; and parents, Arjun and Atar Dhillon. Gurnam was born and raised in India and this was where she married Chanan Gill on December 19th, 1945. In 1980, the family immigrated to Canada to be closer to their extended family. Sadly, Chanan passed away in 1999 but Gurnam continued to make Medicine Hat her home where she enjoyed the company of her family and friends. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Gordon Robert Macdonald, beloved husband of Betty, passed away at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice on Saturday, October 12, 2019, at the age of 84 years. Along with Betty, left to cherish Gordon’s memory are their children: Donna (Greg) MacPherson, Grant (Carol) Macdonald, Scott (Lorraine Teske) Macdonald and Dorothy (Blenos Foote) Macdonald; grandchildren, Michelle (Tom), Leanne (Jason), Kimberley, Katherine, Kendra (Mitch), David, Sean (Cindy), Reanna, Kevin (Jenesia), Adam, Ashley, Skyler, Alyssa and Maddison; great-grandchildren, Evan, Jordan, Finn, Alexander, Karsyn, Zef (Bradley), Lucas, Jase, Emery, Abby, Halo, Gage, River, Willow, Patrick and Jessica; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Florence (Claire) Gard; sisters-in-law, Arlene Macdonald and Leah Macdonald as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gordon was predeceased by his parents, David and Mary; daughter, Peggy (Gean Vanier); great-grandson, AJ as well as siblings, Marion, Norman and Stewart. Gordon enjoyed 10 pin bowling and was a life member of the Medicine Hat Lawn Bowling Club. He was an avid whittler who also liked to play scratch tickets and visit garage sales. Gordon loved to socialize especially get-togethers with friends and family. 1941 ~ 2019
It is with a heavy heart that Don announces the passing of his beloved wife, Patricia Marilynn Phillips. She passed peacefully at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice on Saturday, October 12, 2019, at the age of 77 years. Along with Don, left to cherish Patricia’s memory are her three children, Bradley (Leila), Jeffrey (Bernadette) and Donald (Laverne); three grandchildren, Kelsey Wagner, Alexander Phillips and Anthony Phillips; siblings, Lanny Rourke, Leslie Rourke and Joan Rourke as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Ben and Veronica Rourke. Pat loved travelling which was a must having married a military man. Their family made many moves throughout Don’s career and Pat’s nursing skills were a welcome addition to each community that they called home. She nursed for over 40 years before retiring to enjoy travelling the world. Along with Don, she visited numerous destinations throughout Europe and Canada and especially enjoyed each visit to Hawaii. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she will be dearly missed. Garry Valentine Sehn (71) and Rita Rose Sehn (68), our beloved parents, both from Medicine Hat, passed away suddenly on October 11th, 2019. Garry and Rita were predeceased by Garry's parents, Exi & Elizabeth (Deis) Sehn and by Rita's parents, Joe & Rosa (Steckler) Tuchscherer. They were also predeceased by their cherished daughter, Stephanie Chisholm (Jerimy) as well as Rita's sister, Cathy Harty (Chris) and brother, Donald Tuchscherer (Irene). Garry and Rita are survived by their children, Shauna Moss (Dave) and Chandra Sehn (Brent Carefoot) as well as their grandchildren Carter Moss, Wil Carefoot, and Jacey Carefoot. They are also survived by Garry's siblings, Sr. Dianne Sehn, Yvonne Vickers, Lucille Slade, and Joanne (Sheldon) Marks as well as Rita's siblings, Marie Bachmeier (Ed) and Michael Tuchscherer (Joanne). Family and friends will gather for prayers in the Holy Family Parish on Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. The funeral mass will be held in the Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road S.E.) on Monday, October 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Iqbal Khurshid and Father Tomy Manjaly officiating.
