1929 ~ HAZEL HEDIN ~ 2019

Hazel Agnes Hedin of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Arthur Hedin, passed away on Saturday, August 24th, 2019 at the age of 90 years. Hazel leaves to cherish her memory her children, Errol (Angie Wakelin) Hedin and Wendy (Ray) Bonertz; grandchildren, Erik (Sunny) Lemen, Bjorn (Margareta) Hedin, Carla Hedin, Warren Hedin, Dwayne (Kelly) Fournel, Ryan (Anna) Fournel; great-grandchildren, Adrian Fournel, Matteo Fournel, Morgan Fournel, William Fournel, Sam Lemen, Michael Lemen, Rikka Hedin, and Elaina Suggett. Hazel was predeceased by her loving husband, Arthur; parents, James and Mabel McNaught; brother, Max McNaught; and sister, Dorothy Chisholm. Hazel was born on March 22nd, 1929 in Calgary, AB, but spent most of her life in Medicine Hat. It was here that she met and married the love of her life, Art, on May 3, 1952. Hazel enjoyed working at the British Army Training Base for many years, was active in Fifth Avenue United Church and as a board member for Horizon Village. Hazel doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. 1954 ~ SELINA MAHAR ~ 2019

Selina Mahar of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of Ben Mahar, passed away on Friday, August 23rd, 2019 at the age of 65 years. Selina leaves to cherish her memory her children, Darcy (Karen) Mahar, Kerry (Amanda) Mahar, and Melissa Mahar; grandchildren, Kyle (Amanda), Brenna, Daylan, Brady and Lexi; great-grandson, Keaton; brothers, Edmund Gould, Wilson Gould, Clement (Theresa) Gould and Nicholas Gould; sisters, Irene (Mike) Myers, Theresa (Eugene) Simmonds, Lily (Jim) Caines, Florence (Ron) Simmonds, and Verna (Tom) Mahar; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Selina was predeceased by her parents, Edmund and Florence Gould; and brother, Louis Gould. Selina was born at Bird Cove, Newfoundland on April 5, 1954. She spent most of her life living in Newfoundland where she loved to spend time with family and friends. She was a very hard worker and always took care of everybody. She loved cleaning, cooking, baking, doing crafts and going for nature walks. She was a very quiet and gentle woman who always put everybody before herself. In July 2018, she moved to Medicine Hat so she could be close to her immediate family. She enjoyed her time in Medicine Hat where she spent lots of time with her children and grandchildren. ANSON, WILLIAM (BILL) ALBERT

February 22, 1932 – August 19, 2019
William Anson, beloved husband of Lorrine Anson passed away in Calgary on Monday, August 19, 2019 at the age of 87 years. Besides his loving wife of 67 years, he is survived by his son Donald, grandchildren Chelsea, Brett, Nicole, Paul, and sister Margaret Leonard. Bill was predeceased by his son Douglas Anson, parents William and Florence Anson and sister Gladys Hurlbert.
Bill was born and raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta. The family moved to Ralston, Alberta when he was offered a position with the Defense Research Establishment Suffield. An assignment he really enjoyed while working with the DRES was to travel to Hawaii where he worked on military ships. His career took the family to Calgary in 1968 where he worked as a technician for the University of Calgary in the Mechanical Engineering Department until his retirement. He was fortunate to be able to retire early, and was still very interested in keeping busy, so he worked in tax preparation and obtained his real estate license. Once in full retirement, Bill and Lorrine spent many winters in Arizona with friends and enjoyed their summers in Calgary in their RV at Country Lane Estates. Bill was a devoted caregiver for many years to Lorrine and Doug.
A Celebration of Bill’s of Life will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Eden Brook Funeral Home (17Ave S.w and Lower Springbank Rd) at 2:00 pm. 1935 ~ 2019
Ruby Helene Martha Hirch of Bow Island, beloved wife of the late Ed Hirch, has gone to be with her Lord passing away at the Bow Island Health Centre on Friday, August 23, 2019, at the age of 83 years. After graduating from the Galt School of Nursing, she married the love of her life Edmund Hirch in 1956. In 1963, they moved to Bow Island where they farmed for over 54 years. Ruby will be lovingly remembered by her three children: Richard (Barbara), David (Janet) and Christine (Darren) as well as eight grandchildren. Along with her beloved husband Ed, Ruby was predeceased by their daughter, Paula. A Celebration of Ruby’s life will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 104 – 2 Avenue West, Bow Island, on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Bow Island Cemetery with a luncheon thereafter at the Royal Canadian Legion, 202 – 5 Avenue East, Bow Island.
