1936 ~ PETER FUNK ~ 2019
Peter K. Funk, beloved husband of Shirley Funk of Medicine Hat, passed away on Sunday, May 5th, 2019 at the age of 83 years. Peter also leaves to cherish his memory one son, Wesley (Julie) Funk; three daughters, Peggy (Bernie) Petke, Kathy (Bill) Swenson and Dawna (Clynt) Funk; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three sisters, Mary, Liz and Irene; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Mary Funk; and two sisters, Linda and Hilda. Peter (affectionately known as Sonny by his mother and sisters) was the only son amongst 6 children. Dad’s upbringing on the farm instilled a deep, hard work ethic that he would have for his entire life. Dad quit school at age 14 to work the farm to help support his mother and sisters. Peter married Shirley Silver in October 1957 and by October 1958 they had started their family. As a young man Dad made his living as a farm hand, heavy equipment operator on a road crew and when old enough a truck driver. There began Dad’s love for long haul trucking. Dad very proudly drove a truck for more than 50 years and continued working until he was 76 years old at which point he became a tomato gardener, always in competition with his son-in-law Bill to see who grew the biggest and the best. The only thing Dad loved more than driving was his family. He was so very proud of his grandchildren and always kept up with what the kids were doing. He was always available to help out no matter what the chore or who it was for. He was always telling us he had to look out for the “old people” in his neighborhood. Dad had the biggest heart and the best sense of humour which we will all miss dearly. Go make the miles Dad. We love you. The Funeral Service will be held at GERMAN CANADIAN HARMONY CLUB (Harmony Hall), 1 – 1st Street SE, Redcliff, on Saturday, June 1st, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating.
