1938 ~ IRENE NITZ ~ 2019
Irene Nitz of Medicine Hat, AB, passed away on Monday, May 13th, 2019 at the age of 80 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Darlene (David) Tessman of Medicine Hat, AB, Brenda (Bill) Rose of Vernon, BC, Dean Nitz of Medicine Hat, AB, Charlene (John Grona) of Strathmore, AB, and Mary (Steve) Seitz of Medicine Hat, AB; granddaughters, Lynn (Jonas) Wells, Erin (Jason) Straarup, Michele (Cameron) Dakin, Shauna Rose, Darnyll (Lance) Nitz-Jacober; Shareen Nitz, Christa Grona (Mike), Kayla Grona (Nathaniel), Lisa (Josh) Crawford, and Stephanie (Sam) Seitz-Akehurst; great-grandchildren, Jonah, Kaylem, Ryler, Avery, Ashlyn, Austin, Aeon, Zaidin, Ethan and Leigh; sisters, Georgina (Morris) Stenger and Annie (Harvey) Sackman; and numerous nephews and nieces. Irene was predeceased by her husband, Gotlieb “Gus” Nitz; parents, Valentine and Pauline Bischoff; sister, Evelyn Kobley (Mike); and daughter-in-law, Charlene Nitz. Irene was born and raised in Fox Valley (God’s Country) and attended Ingebrigt Elementary. Irene finished school in grade 8 to help on the family farm. Irene worked at the Glass Factory, Voyageur, The Shell and Best Western and Humpty’s. Gus and Irene were married on October 6th, 1956. They lived in Redcliff and started a family. Irene and her family moved to many places in the Medicine Hat area including Elm Street, a S.M.R.I.D house (6 miles out of town) Kingsway, Collier Road, Seven Persons, Southview Drive and The Good Samaritan Society. Irene loved her coffee along with her favorite activities such as puzzles, visits with friends, card games, bingo, teasing, hockey and sports. Irene fought a long hard fight with COPD. She was a very strong willed, feisty, spunky lady. Irene had a way of showing affection by touching, pinching and tugging on ears. Vigil Rites will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL on Sunday, May 26th, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at HOLY FAMILY PARISH, 1451 Strachan Road SE, on Monday, May 27th, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Vijaya Bathineni, Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Roman Catholic Section at Hillside Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Irene’s memory may be made to the Margery E. 1953 ~ BLAINE POBERZNICK ~ 2019
The family of Blaine Poberznick is heartbroken to announce his passing on Wednesday, May 15th, 2019 at the age of 65 years. Blaine is survived by his wife and best friend, Janice; his children, Cale (Lindy) and grandchildren, Remi and Bode Poberznick and Hayley Poberznick (Kevin Fuhrmann); his mother, Clara Poberznick; his sister, Cheryle (Bill) Sangster; one aunt, Vida Hickman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Blaine was predeceased by his father, Nicholas Poberznick. Blaine was born on September 17th, 1953 in Lethbridge, AB and grew up in Skiff, AB and many good times were had by Blaine and his cousins there. When Blaine was 13 and Janice was 12, they went on their first date at the Foremost Skating Rink which led to a lifelong love that never faltered. After finishing high school in Foremost and college in Lethbridge majoring in Journalism, Blaine and Janice were married in 1975 and lived in Calgary where Blaine started his career in insurance adjusting and then he followed his brother-in-law, Greg Roth, to Medicine Hat in 1976. Blaine worked for Henchel & Company and then in 1981 Blaine started Plains Adjusters with two partners and continued this business until 2005 when he and Don Tetrault opened TMD Adjusters. He worked there until his retirement in 2016 after 43 years in the business. Blaine always loved music and playing his keyboards in a band and he played with many different people throughout the years. He also loved racquetball and squash and played daily at the YMCA for most of his life where he also made a ton of friends and enjoyed the competition always. Blaine’s family was all important to him and he enjoyed every gathering that was had, especially teasing his nephews and nieces and telling a good story. His children and grandchildren meant everything to him, and he would have done anything for them. He will be missed by all who knew him. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2019 from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. and at HOLY FAMILY PARISH, 1451 Strachan Road SE, on Thursday, May 23rd, 2019 from 12:30 from 1:25 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at HOLY FAMILY PARISH, on Thursday, May 23rd, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. with Father Iqbal Khurshid, Celebrant. A private interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery. Raymond Omer Chicoine of Medicine Hat was born on May 25, 1943 in Storthoaks, Saskatchewan and passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the age of 75 years, beloved husband of the late Arlene Chicoine. Rachel Hornung of Medicine Hat, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at the age of 95 years, beloved wife of the late Arthur Hornung. She leaves to cherish her memory seven children, Elaine (Tom) Ball, Norman (Wendy) Hornung, Doris (Joel) Prosofsky, Joan (George) Steele, Kenneth (Karen) Hornung, Madeleine (Gary) Hurlbert and Richard (Gwen) Hornung; one son-in-law Patrick Keck; twenty two grandchildren and thirty three great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Fred Baker and Raymond (Roberta) Hornung as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Alberta and Leopold Sylvestre; her husband Arthur in 1988; one daughter Louise Keck in 2009; two brothers and two sisters.
