1918 ~ EDITH WEILAND ~ 2019
Mrs. Ida “Edith” Weiland of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Emanuel Weiland, passed away on Thursday, February 7th, 2019 at the age of 100 years. Edith leaves to cherish her memory three children, Jean Hall, Marlene (Lynn) Hirsche and Wayne (Rita) Weiland; eight grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. Edith was predeceased by her husband, Emanuel Weiland; her parents, Fred and Augustina Tschritter; and five brothers. Edith was born on December 26th, 1918 in Irvine, Alberta. She married Emanuel Weiland on October 21st, 1938 and raised their family on the “Weiland Homestead” in Manyberries. Edith was a good farm wife, she loved gardening, baking, cooking, music, sewing and knitting. Emanuel and Edith retired in 1976, later moving to Medicine Hat where they remained in their own home until 2010. Edith lived a very active, healthy life till the age of 92 years. She was admitted to the Riverview Care Centre on April 25th, 2011 where she made a wonderful home and lots of friends. Edith lived at the Riverview until the time of her passing and received the best loving care and felt her caregivers were part of her family. A private family funeral service will take place at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel with Gary W. Goran officiating. A private interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery. 1943 ~ TERRY HARDER ~ 2019
Mr. Terrence “Terry” Daniel Harder, beloved husband of 56 years to Mavis Harder of Medicine Hat passed away on Friday, February 8th, 2019 at the age of 75 years. Terry also leaves to cherish his memory one son, Doug (Deb) Harder; one daughter, Deb (Kelly) Henderson; four grandchildren, Ryan (Alisha) Henderson, Bryce (Lindsay) Henderson, Hayley Henderson and Nick Grunwald; five great grandchildren, Josh Grunwald, Emma Henderson, Wesley Henderson, Kaiden Henderson and Rhett Henderson; two brothers, Dennis Harder and Randi Harder; one brother-in-law, Tom (Myrna) Burnell; two sisters-in-law, Shirley (Arnold) Wruck and Marni (Barry) Hodgins; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Terry was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Harriott Harder; one brother, Rick Harder; one brother-in-law, Larry Burnell; and one sister-in-law, Lois Harder. Terry served with the Canadian Military, worked in the oil patch and most recently worked as a Grounds Keeper at the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club. He enjoyed playing golf and loved watching his grandchildren's sporting activities. Terry will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. The family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. Woodley and the nurses on 5 East. Honouring Terry's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. 1958 ~ 2019
Walter Herman Franz of Medicine Hat passed away peacefully with his children at his side while at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at the age of 60 years. Left to cherish Walter’s memory are his three children: Derrick (fiancée Carly), Erica (fiancé Marc) and Jessica (fiancé Brendon); the mother to his children, Debbie; parents , Alvin and Marianne; sisters, Monica (Gerald) and Helga (Lorne) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Walter was raised on a farm South of Medicine Hat. After graduating from High School, he worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator and in the oilfield throughout Southern Alberta. A hard worker, he approached everything he did in life with a passion, whether on the job, working on the farm or with his racing. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so starting one hour prior to the Celebration of Walter’s life which will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. Private Interment will follow at Prairie View Cemetery with a time of fellowship thereafter in the Cook Southland Reception Facility.
