RONALD BRUCE LEARMONT
May 25, 1940 ~ November 13, 2018
Mr. Ron Bruce Learmont passed away suddenly at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at the age of 78 years. Left to cherish Ron’s memory are his 4 children, Carol Friesen, John (Melissa Gogolinski) Learmont, Shelly (Azar) Guinn and Craig (Teresa) Learmont; 12 grandchildren, Janessa Friesen, Michelle Friesen, Emily Leedham, Victoria Leslie, Benson Guinn, Melissa Learmont, Nathan Learmont, Eric Learmont, Kyle Learmont, Lynae Learmont, Alison Learmont and Jamie Learmont, step-grandchildren Levi, Kenzie (Neesa and Zahra) and Sabin. Ron’s memory will also be cherished in the hearts of his siblings, Gail, Evelyn and Bill. He was predeceased by his mother, Helen, his father Jack, an infant son, and his children’s mother, Bernice.
Ron began apprenticing as a Radio Technician in 1967 and helped his father run Jack’s Radio and TV in the late 60’s and 70’s, helping repair radios and early television sets. Service soon turned into sales of electronics. Ron was always on the leading edge of technology. His family was the cool house on the block as they always had the latest gadgets such as Pong, a 3 button remote control and the first microwave and even an Apple II computer.
Ron loved the customer service side of the business and enjoyed fixing TV’s onsite for clients while sharing stories. His customers are the reason he couldn’t seem to retire. He didn’t want anyone not to get the service they needed.
Ron’s success in business provided him with many opportunities to travel with his family and colleagues. This led to a love of travel that continued throughout his life. Japan, Denmark, London, Rome, Spain, Mexico, and Hawaii are just a few of the places he visited. His last trip was to Newfoundland this past summer.
Ron enjoyed being active. His family will remember with fondness many ski trips as well as sailing, golfing, fishing, biking, racquetball and pool. He was involved with many organizations such as the Kinsmen, and the Rotary Club. Ron loved music and spent a great deal of time attending Esplanade concerts, Rotary Festival events as well as the Blues at the Bow concerts. He was a proud sponsor of Jazzfest for many years. Ron also had an active social life with his many friends from the River Ridge Condo playing cards, pool and having coffee.
He was the best partner to have in Trivial Pursuit as it was amazing how much information he knew about a wide variety of topics. Ron loved watching the news as well as reading the newspapers. The New York Times crossword puzzle was always a great activity for him.
Cooking was a passion for Ron. If you knew Ron, I’m sure you have eaten a meal at his house or had ‘extras’ delivered to your door. He enjoyed being in the kitchen planning, cooking, and trying new recipes that he found online. His favorite meal was Christmas brunch for his family.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so starting one hour prior to the Celebration of Ron’s life which will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Bob McGougan officiating. A time of fellowship will follow immediately thereafter in the Cook Southland Reception Facility with Private Interment set to take place later in the day. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting
