Marie Ann Stickel of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of David Stickel, passed away on Saturday, November 10th, 2018 at the age of 75 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Bernie (Tina) Dyck of Medicine Hat; daughters, Deanna (Doug) McClain of Redcliff and Lee Ann (Mike) Kerr of Cochrane, and their families; her brothers, Leon (Jeanette) Eckert and Ken (Maxine) Eckert; two sisters, Diane (Erwin) Renz and Deb (Gerald) Deis; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Frances Eckert; and two sons, Harold and Jerry. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Margaret Marie (Durst) (Green) Blackwell of Medicine Hat passed away peacefully on November 14, 2018, at the age of 87 years. She will be missed deeply by her daughter, Anna Rae Green, son-in-law, Edward Ough, grandchildren, Thomas and Gwendolyn Ough, and by several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Florence Mildred Gust (nee Kreller) beloved wife of the late, Mr. Bruce Gust passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at the age of 100 years. Florence was born on May 23, 1918, and lived on the family farm in the “Social Plains”, Bindloss area. She moved to Medicine Hat to attend school in her teens and later to attend college. Florence met and married Leslie Foster and together they had two children, Wynonna and Leslie. Les was a pilot during WWII and was killed in action. In 1951, she married Bruce Gust and together they had two children, Sam and Elizabeth. Florence and Bruce owned and operated Gust’s Food Store in Medicine Hat for many years. They also purchased a ranch North of the City where they lived until Bruce’s passing in 1979, when she moved back into Medicine Hat. Florence very much enjoyed W.M.S. as well as volunteering for St. John Ambulance, and she was presented the Award of Merit by the Governor General of Canada. She started a widow / widower group called, “Life Goes On” and served as an elder with St. John’s Presbyterian church. For the past 10 years, Florence resided at the River Ridge Senior’s Residence where she enjoyed playing cards, knitting, dancing, music and visiting with friends until her passing. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Elizabeth (Eric) Murray of Calgary, Sam (Cheryl) Gust of Medicine Hat, Leslie Arkley (Jim Hunt) of Calgary, Wynnona (Ron) Goldman of San Diego, CA., USA; grandchildren, Christy Gust (Tom Wilde), Keri Gust (Quentin Randall), Sam (Heather) Gust, Christopher (Brandi) Murray, Michelle Murray, Sue Murray, Rob (Carla) Arkley, David Goldman, Marc (Lindsay) Goldman; 19 great- grandchildren; one great-greatgranddaughter; sisters, Hazel Hall of Calgary and Betty Scarlett of Ottawa; sister-in-law, Frances Woywitka of Edmonton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Florence was predeceased by her first husband, Leslie Foster; husband, Bruce Gust; parents, Barney and Isabella Kreller; mother-in-law, Lillian Gust; sister, Velma Barros and four brothers-in-law. JOHN WILLIAM STUBER
John William Stuber passed away in St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice on Friday, November 9, 2018, at the age of 88 years, beloved husband of Peggy Stuber of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory his children, Jerry (Suzanne) Blumhagen, Scott Blumhagen, Tammy (Glen) Wagner, Roxaine (Brian) Berreth; six grandchildren, Makaila and Joshua Blumhagen, Troy Wagner, Teanna (Izy) Bergeron, Cody (Ashley) Berreth, Dylan (Kristin) Berreth; two great grandchildren, Holden and Daxton; sister-in-law, Joan Stuber and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, Australia and the United States. John was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Mary Stuber (Maple Creek); wife, Thelma Stuber (Medicine Hat); brothers Jack Stuber (Calgary); Fred Stuber (Medicine Hat); and Harry Stuber (Big Valley, Alberta); sisters Rebecca Burack (Thunder Bay, Ontario); Ronnie Packard (Maple Creek); and Evelyn Magnuson (Billings, Montana).
John W. Stuber went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2018. He was born on March 19, 1930, to Fred and Mary Stuber of Hatton/Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. During his childhood, he lived in numerous places, including Maple Creek and Piapot, Saskatchewan; Thunder Bay, Ontario; and Calgary, Palm Springs, California and Vass, Australia. He later worked for both the Canadian Pacific and Canadian National railroads.
John joined the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry and attended Army basic training in Calgary, and later in Fort Lewis, Washington. After his training, John proudly served his country in the Korean War. While abroad, he met his first wife, Thelma Stewart, who was a nurse in a hospital in Japan.
After his service, the couple moved to Thelma’s native country of Australia, where they got married and began their lives together. John worked for the Department of Highways and ran three swimming pools while in Australia before he began a career in investing in land and became a successful businessman.
John and Thelma decide to leave Australia in 1958, traveling around Europe before settling down in Palm Springs, California, where they lived for several years. They moved back to Australia before eventually residing in Maple Creek.
Once in Maple Creek, the couple started several businesses, including the Roundup Drive-in and Big Gallon Car Wash, and John began building and leasing properties. Eventually, they, sold their businesses and properties and moved to Medicine Hat. Thelma passed in June of 2005.
John continued to live in Medicine Hat and later married Peggy Blumhagen on January 4, 2008. The two loved to travel and went to Hawaii and Australia for several winters in addition to visiting Mexico and the United States.
A distinguished veteran, John was proud of his military service and was honored when he and Peggy were able to represent Canada and travel to South Korea for the 60th anniversary of the Korean War.
John enjoyed time with his family and planned many get-togethers and parties to bring all his far-flung family together. He cherished drinking coffee and visiting with his family and many friends. Remembered for his kind-hearted and generous personality, John Stuber will be greatly missed by many.
The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. with Diaconal Minister Lila deWaal officiating. The officers and members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Robertson Memorial Branch #17 will conduct a poppy service for their departed comrade. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. Wesley Andy Wall, beloved husband of Bonnie, passed away in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at the age of 74 years. Along with Bonnie, his loving wife of 52 years, Wesley leaves to cherish his memory three children, Allan (Gail) Wall of Fort St. John, BC., Duane (Faith) Wall of Maple Creek, SK. and Sandra (Bill) Schwab of Medicine Hat and their children, James and Taylor. His memory will also live on in the hearts of his 14 surviving siblings, their families and numerous other extended family. Wesley was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Jessie as well as one sister and numerous extended family members. Wesley was born in Swift Current, SK., on November 10, 1944, the 7th child of 16 to Henry and Jessie Wall. He proudly spent most of his life working in the Oil & Gas Industry where he made many life long friends.
