1986 ~ CARTER SCHLAHT ~ 2018
It is with saddened hearts, that the family of Carter Robert James Schlaht, beloved son of Alan and Laurel Schlaht of Bindloss, Alberta mourn his passing. Carter was born October 26, 1986 and passed on October 16, 2018. He was a caring and loving son and brother. Left to cherish Carter's memory is his sister, Jenna Schlaht of Edmonton; his grandmas, Tillie Schlaht of Medicine Hat and Nordis Maley of Swift Current; along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Jack Schlaht of Medicine Hat and Russell Maley of Swift Current, SK.
Carter was born in Medicine Hat on October 26, 1986. He went to school in Bindloss and Acadia Valley, then graduated from Eagle Butte High School. He enjoyed many years of playing hockey in Burstall, SK. Being active in Bindloss 4-H Beef and Horse Club kept him busy. He was good at volleyball and track and field. Carter learned many skills through the different jobs that he had experienced, but he loved family farming most of all. He obtained his Class 1 truck driving license of which he was very proud. Most recently Carter was employed as a farm laborer in the Echo Dale area.
Standing over 6'4", Carter was a gentle giant of a man. His easy going nature and gift of listening was greatly appreciated. Carter's dry sense of humor made people smile. He loved the prairies and took pride in owning and maintaining his own farm. Carter was a nature lover and was happiest relaxing by the local river, hiking, fishing, or motorbiking. He had an interest in trucks and machinery. In 2013 Carter travelled to Perth, Australia. He also travelled to Mexico, Maui, Hawaii and all through western Canada.
During the 2017 Bindloss CFB wildfire, Carter fought bravely alongside his neighbors in order to protect their property. He did not hesitate when called a month later to fight fire in the neighboring Hilda community.
Carter quietly bore his condition of depression with great dignity. Over the years this affliction would appear and then retreat at various intervals. He seldom complained. Carter fell to the disease after a valiant effort to beat this adversity. Carter was deeply loved by his family and he loved his family in return. Carter will be forever missed and forever in our hearts. We love you Carter.
The family would like to thank everyone for their help and support. To name a few; Oyen and Redcliff RCMP, HALO, Les and Terry at Rangeland Helicopters for donating their aircraft, the Swenson family of Bindloss, Search and Rescue, and local surrounding communities.
The Funeral Service will be held at MEDICINE HAT EXHIBITION & STAMPEDE GROUNDS, HIGDON HALL, 2055 – 21st Avenue SE, on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Shane Andrus officiating.
