1986 ~ CARTER SCHLAHT ~ 2018

It is with saddened hearts, that the family of Carter Robert James Schlaht, beloved son of Alan and Laurel Schlaht of Bindloss, Alberta mourn his passing. Carter was born October 26, 1986 and passed on October 16, 2018. He was a caring and loving son and brother. Left to cherish Carter's memory is his sister, Jenna Schlaht of Edmonton; his grandmas, Tillie Schlaht of Medicine Hat and Nordis Maley of Swift Current; along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Jack Schlaht of Medicine Hat and Russell Maley of Swift Current, SK.
Carter was born in Medicine Hat on October 26, 1986. He went to school in Bindloss and Acadia Valley, then graduated from Eagle Butte High School. He enjoyed many years of playing hockey in Burstall, SK. Being active in Bindloss 4-H Beef and Horse Club kept him busy. He was good at volleyball and track and field. Carter learned many skills through the different jobs that he had experienced, but he loved family farming most of all. He obtained his Class 1 truck driving license of which he was very proud. Most recently Carter was employed as a farm laborer in the Echo Dale area.
Standing over 6'4", Carter was a gentle giant of a man. His easy going nature and gift of listening was greatly appreciated. Carter's dry sense of humor made people smile. He loved the prairies and took pride in owning and maintaining his own farm. Carter was a nature lover and was happiest relaxing by the local river, hiking, fishing, or motorbiking. He had an interest in trucks and machinery. In 2013 Carter travelled to Perth, Australia. He also travelled to Mexico, Maui, Hawaii and all through western Canada.
During the 2017 Bindloss CFB wildfire, Carter fought bravely alongside his neighbors in order to protect their property. He did not hesitate when called a month later to fight fire in the neighboring Hilda community.
Carter quietly bore his condition of depression with great dignity. Over the years this affliction would appear and then retreat at various intervals. He seldom complained. Carter fell to the disease after a valiant effort to beat this adversity. Carter was deeply loved by his family and he loved his family in return. Carter will be forever missed and forever in our hearts. We love you Carter.
The family would like to thank everyone for their help and support. To name a few; Oyen and Redcliff RCMP, HALO, Les and Terry at Rangeland Helicopters for donating their aircraft, the Swenson family of Bindloss, Search and Rescue, and local surrounding communities.

DARRELL PIERCE

This past Friday, many gathered at Cook’s Chapel to honour the life of a man who loved life, his family and the stars. His memory will live on in all those whose lives he touched.

You never said you were leaving,
We never got to say good-bye,
You were gone before we knew it,
And now a shining star in the sky.

ELAINE EARLA ADAMS

October 26, 1949 ~ November 2, 2018

“We are born from a quiet sleep and we die to a calm awaking.” – Zhuangzi

Elaine Earla Adams of Sylvan Lake, Alberta, passed away in Medicine Hat, Alberta on Friday, November 2, 2018, at the age of 69 years. Elaine leaves to cherish her memory: mother, Erma; siblings, Valerie (Jim), Clayton (Diane) and Nancy (Wayne) as well as one niece and several nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her husband, Konstantyn in 2006. Elaine was born in Summerside, PEI., on October 26, 1949 to Erma (nee Bryanton) and the late Delmar Adams. She was raised near the ocean on PEI and lived a life filled with many happy memories… from being crowned Miss Kensington in 1967, playing piano and percussion in a brass band, being voted most classy dresser in school and onto completing an Advanced Travel program in Hartford, Connecticut. In 1973, she married Konstantyn Wenc, a handsome charismatic man with intelligence, wit and a spirit of adventure to match Elaine’s. She had a successful 35 year career in the travel industry, owned several agencies, travelled extensively and was a remarkable lady to meet. In every conceivable way, Elaine was a fully alive person, extremely organized with a keen attention to detail, physically beautiful, creative with a flare, a lover of art, theatre, music and respectful to all she encountered. Fearlessly different, Elaine’s resolute nature allowed her to speak her mind, clear her feelings and let the truth be known. She was a spiritual woman who experienced love through family, friends and the generosity she poured out to others. Her memory will live on in the lives of all those who had the privilege of meeting her. It’s fair to say that Elaine was a beautiful soul whose beauty, grace, style, strength and dignity shall not be forgotten… forever missed, but never lost to us. She was God’s gift to us and now her kind soul will get the abiding peace she so richly deserves. Special thanks to Dr. J. Foley. Dr. M. Wong and the Carmel Hospice for their exemplary care and support. In honouring Elaine’s wishes, her life will be silently remembered without the proceedings of a formal funeral. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting our website at http://www.cooksouthland.com) If friends so desire, donations in memory of Elaine may be made to St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice, 156 – 3 Street N.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 5M1.
