1924 – BERRETH – 2018

Violet Berreth of Medicine Hat passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, October 19th, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel in 2014. Left to cherish her memory is her loving child, Richard (Marilyn) Berreth of Redcliff, three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren: Gizelle (Duane) Rees and their children McKenna & Davyn of Airdrie; Dorlisa (Tyler) Prior and their children Adelynn & Jaren of Medicine Hat; Richelle Berreth, her daughters Isabelle and Abigail, and her partner Corey Dunsing of Carstairs; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and her Toy Poodle, Ginger.
Violet was born in Piapot, Saskatchewan on August 17, 1924, and was raised in a family of 6. She was predeceased by her parents Harvey and Lilly, her brothers, Lloyd and Alvin (Sam) and sisters Edith Gerrish, Dorothy Elderkin and Edna Baker.
Violet attended Piapot School and married Daniel Berreth in Medicine Hat on January 11, 1943. She worked as a seamstress while Daniel managed the farm. In 1937, Violet was handicapped by complications from measles and had mobility issues throughout her life. Violet was an avid hockey fan and closely followed the Medicine Hat Tigers and the Edmonton Oilers. She enjoyed sewing and knitting, perch fishing, and traveling across Canada and the U.S. with her family, training and racing thoroughbred horses. Winter racing in Arizona provided relief from the Canadian winters.
Violet was a very caring and loving individual with strong faith and always thought of others and their needs. She was a loyal caregiver to her sisters, Edith and Edna. She will be missed by her family and friends and many great memories and stories will be shared in the years ahead.
A time of Remembrance for family and close friends will be held in the spring at the Piapot Cemetery, Piapot Saskatchewan. 1933 ~ JOE COLBE ~ 2018

Joseph “Joe” Colbe, beloved husband of Darline, passed away on Thursday, October 25th, 2018 at the age of 85 years. Joe also leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Roger (Judy), Cory (Jodie), Derek, and Cody (Cody); eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers; one sister; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his parents, André and Alida. Joe was born in Saint Léon, Manitoba on August 12, 1933. In the late 1950’s he moved from Duchess, AB to Empress, AB while he was working for CP Rail as a telecommunication lineman. Shortly after moving to Empress he started farming and opened a Snowmobile shop with his friend and business partner. In 1974, Joe and Darline moved to Acadia Valley, AB to establish the family farm, then in 1978, he opened the first Butcher shop. Joe was community minded and served on multiple boards. In 1996, Joe semi – retired. He continued to farm but enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the cabin in Elkwater. As the weather turned colder, Joe would spend his winters in Las Vegas, Nevada and Yuma, Arizona. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. FOSS, Kathleen

1926-2018
Mrs. Kathleen Florence Foss, beloved wife of the late Vernon Foss, passed away Saturday, Oct.13, 2018 at the age of 92 years. Kathleen leaves to cherish her memory, son, Tom (Jennifer) and children, Cameron (Bailey), Adam (Francesca), Aynsley (Greg) and their mother, Pia; daughter, Stephanie (Kelly) and their children Sara (Michael) and Jamie; daughter Natalie and her son Cody (Shannon); great grand kids, Jake, Luke, Adam, Kinley and Carson. Also mourning her passing is sister Eileen Felesky, brother in laws Gordon Foss (Irene), Melvin Foss (Shirley), sister in laws Viola Poole and Elaine Tulley; as well as many nieces and nephews. Kathleen was predeceased by her parents Ed and Florence Cooke, sister Doreen, as well as other extended family members.
Kathleen was born in Redcliff, AB in 1926 and joined the Women’s Royal Canadian Navy Service (WRENS) in 1944 as a supply assistant. Kathleen married Vernon Foss in 1954 in Redcliff and they lived in Winterburn, AB for two years and moved back to Redcliff. In 1966, the family moved to Bow Island, AB where she worked at the medical clinic for a number of years and they resided until retirement. After Vern’s passing in 2010, Kathleen moved to the Heartland Retirement Centre in Okotoks, AB in 2012 to be closer to family.
Throughout her life, Kathleen was faithfully dedicated to the United Church and actively participated in the choir, bells, youth group, Sunday school as well as the UCW. Kathleen was a volunteer with the Palliative Care Program and the Bow Island Pleasant View Lodge.
After moving to Okotoks, Kathleen remained active in the Heartland community participating with choir, bells and drama club. Kathleen looked forward to and enjoyed many of the “outings” organized by Heartland and continued her Sunday worship at the Okotoks United Church where she especially enjoyed the services conducted by Rev. Julia Kimmett. Our family is very grateful to the caring support she received from the Heartland staff and the members of the Okotoks United Church.
Kathleen enjoyed the company of family, frequent phone calls with her two sisters and sharing stories of her childhood. Mum, you will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be held at Okotoks United Church 43 Riverside Drive, Okotoks, AB on Friday November 2, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.

KORITNIK

Evelyn Louise Koritnik, passed away at St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at the age of 82 years. Predeceased by her parents and the oldest sister, she is survived by her husband Peter, daughter Dr. Angela Koritnik, granddaughter Jana Dickinson, grandson Ryan Dickinson (Jasmine), and a great grandson Henry all of Ottawa, Ontario. Stepson Dr. Zeljko Koritnik (Sanja), granddaughter Tiyana of Sremska Mitrovica, Rep. Serbia; sister Jean Muir of Calgary, sister Judy Wasylyshyn of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; sister Donna Pauls of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and numerous nieces and nephews. According to late Evelyn’s wishes there will be no funeral service. Cremation has been held.
