1924 ~ TILLIE MARTIN ~ 2018

Mathilda "Tillie" Martin of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Ferd Martin, passed away on Saturday, September 15th, 2018 at the age of 94 years. Tillie leaves to cherish her memory her children, Dennis (Chris) Martin, Audrey Nichols and Tim (Theresa) Martin; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Tillie was predeceased by her husband, Ferd Martin; her parents; three brothers; and four sisters. Those who knew Tillie will remember her for her love of playing cards and playing pool. 1925 ~ GEORGE WILLCOCKS ~ 2018

Mr. George Willcocks, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Barbara Willcocks, of Medicine Hat, passed away on September 10, 2018 at the age of 93 years. George leaves to cherish his memory his three sons, Paul Willcocks (Jody Paterson) of Victoria, John Willcocks of Medicine Hat, and Timothy Willcocks of Vancouver; five grandchildren, Rebecca (Gary) Todd of Gainesville, Fla., Sam Willcocks of Vancouver, Chelsea Tinnion of Montreal, Susan Willcocks of Montreal and Katherine Willcocks of Chertsey, Quebec; and two great grandchildren, Cerys and Dylan Todd. George was predeceased by one son, Mark Willcocks; his parents, Samuel and Louisa “Cissy” Willcocks; his brother Eric Willcocks; and sister Margaret Abbott (nee Willcocks). George was born in Toronto on April 27, 1925. He served as a pilot in the RCAF from 1943 to 1945. He met and then married Barbara Jones on September 9, 1950 in Toronto. After living briefly in Montreal and Calgary, they moved to Medicine Hat in 1986, where George was the publisher of the Medicine Hat News. When he retired in 1990, George was an active volunteer in the community, working with the Medicine Hat Stampede and Exhibition for many years, and was a lifelong honorary member of the board of directors. A memorial celebration will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Friday, September 28, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. with Dr. David J. Carter officiating. 1929 ~ SHIRLEY GILL ~ 2018

Shirley Laura Amelia Gill, beloved wife of Donald Vernon Gill, passed away in Medicine Hat on Monday, September 17th, 2018 at the age of 88 years. In addition to her husband of 66 years and 10 months, she leaves behind her son, Jim (Linda) Gill and their children, Lindsay Johnson, Tara Gottselig, Kendra Gill and Curtis Gill; daughter, June (Oscar) Saulit and June's children, Matthew Poirier and Amber Mogus; daughter, Lorna (Kris Eldred Gill; son, Jerrold Gill; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Theodoria Gloria Brehm; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Theodore Brehm and Amelia Lukowitch Brehm; a brother, Antony Brehm; and two sisters, Nettie Brehm and Iris Solinski. Shirley was born on December 2nd, 1929 on the Brehm family farm outside of Leader, Saskatchewan. She attended nursing school at Providence Hospital in Moose Jaw, graduating in 1951. She worked at the Leader Hospital. She married Don Gill of Leader, Saskatchewan on November 17th, 1951. Shirley became a farm wife who was active and involved with her four children and later her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Don retired to Medicine Hat in 1990. She delighted in spending time with family, traveling, taking walks and staying active. She also was involved in the community, both in Leader and later in Medicine Hat. Shirley was a Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star; past president of the Figure Skating Club; a volunteer for a variety of causes, including the cancer and heart associations and in support of palliative care; a member of the Medicine Hat Golf Club; and a member of a women's bridge club. A Memorial Service will be held at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1 Dunmore Road SE, on Saturday, September 22nd, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating. Monika Wessner, beloved wife of Tyrone Wessner of Medicine Hat, passed away on Saturday, September 15th, 2018 at the age of 45 years. Monika also leaves to cherish her memory two children, Benjamin and Emily; her parents, Chuck and Mary; her brother, Augustine (Tania) and their children, MacKenzie and Zachary. Monika was a warm and caring person who enjoyed pottery and painting. Her children filled her life with love. The Funeral Mass will be held at ST. PATRICK’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 238 – 2nd Avenue NE, on Friday, September 21st, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Francis Tran, Celebrant. Gladys Jean Kurpjuweit, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at the age of 76 years, beloved wife of Alvin Kurpjuweit of Medicine Hat. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Hillcrest Evangelical Missionary Church (3785 13th Ave SE) on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Bolender officiating.
