1944 ~ WILLIAM GEORGE ~ 2018
It is with great sadness that we, the family of William (Bill) George, beloved husband of the late Anne George, announce his peaceful passing on Sunday, April 29th, 2018 in Medicine Hat Regional Hospital at the age of 73 years.
Bill was born September 30th, 1944 to Augustus and Elenore in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Although Bill and Anne moved their young family west in 1973 and made Medicine Hat home, he was still a “Newfie” at heart and travelled back many times with his children and grandchildren. In recent years, Bill looked forward to his travels around Canada and the USA with Sue and Clay, his most memorable being to Alcatraz and anywhere they went in Clay’s 57 Chev. He was anticipating the ride to Newfoundland this summer. Bill was a very proud father to his three children and leaves to cherish his memory: son, Jason (Sharon) George; son, Sheldon (Penny) George; and daughter, Sue (Clay) Schweigert. His six grandchildren were the love of his life: Tyran George, Ashtyn George, Devin Mercer, Jayden George, Hayden Schweigert and Logan Schweigert; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Mavis Nixon. Bill was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Anne (2010); his brother, Jerry; and sister, Edna; as well as his grandson, Jayton George. Thank you to the staff at the Medicine Hat Hospital on 5E, the staff in the ER and thank you very much to the staff at River Ridge Seniors home for everything you did for Dad when he was living there. The Funeral Service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Monday, May 7th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating. A Private Interment will take place at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Bill’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, Alberta, T2E 2P5. WAGNER
Matthew “Matty” James Taylor Wagner, beloved son of Pam and Bob Wagner, and Patty and Jim Taylor, passed away peacefully Friday April 27, 2018, at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto at the age of 39 years. Matthew was born June 14, 1978 in Calgary and moved to Medicine Hat before he was two. Matthew was raised spending many weekends and summers at the family cabin near the Cypress Hills, instilling a life long love for the outdoors, including hunting and fishing. Matthew was a talented musician from an early age, writing his first song at age four. He found his calling in sharing his musical gifts with those around him as a teacher, composer, performer, and production engineer. Following his dream, Matthew and his band moved to Toronto. The highlight of this time was signing a record deal with EMI and touring major rock concerts in Germany and Austria on the same bill as “Metallica” and “Rage Against the Machine”. Matthew lived his dream. With his bands and other groups, he wrote and produced many albums and helped launch careers of many artists. Matthew’s music was his passion, which inspired artists around him to follow their dreams unapologetically and with deep conviction. His musical talent was an inspiration to those around him and he worked generously and tirelessly to help others achieve their artistic goals. Matthew’s music and vibrant personality will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the medical team at Mount Sinai ICU, for their compassion and support during this difficult time. A service will be held in Matthew’s honour at the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. with Linda Wagner officiating. Matty’s final gift to the world was his beautiful heart, which now beats in someone else. Please honour his memory by signing your own donor card.
