1936 ~ BART TORRIE ~ 2018

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Bart Torrie, announce his passing on Monday, March 19th, 2018 at the Carmel Hospice in St. Joseph's Home at the age of 82 years. Surrounded by loved ones he slipped away peacefully to join his late wife, Norma Torrie to watch over us all together. Father to Rick Torrie and Darrell (Lisa) Torrie and grandfather to Sherrie (Josh) Fauth, Kayla (Mike) Wild and Jessica Torrie as well as step-granddaughters, Stephanie Collier, Kassandra (Zach) Watson, Madison Faller and Kyra Faller. Great-grandfather to Mckenzie, Tatum, Michael, Haven, Brexton, Brooklyn, Ryker, Charlyee and Emery. Bart is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Greta and Lil Torrie as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bart was predeceased by his parents, George and Isabella Torrie; brothers, Jim, Stew, Allen and Donnie; as well as his sister-in-law, Phyllis Torrie. Bart was born in Gibbs, Saskatchewan on February 21st, 1936 and has lived in Medicine Hat since 1948. As an adult Bart worked at a couple of small jobs before settling at the Medicine Hat News for 42 years as a Typesetter before retiring. Bart enjoyed good times with family and friends especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was no stranger to enjoying life to its fullest. With the last month of his time with us reminiscing about the great life he had led. He also enjoyed walking and curling and would likely always be found watching the game when it was on. Bart will always be with us in our hearts and memories. In keeping with Bart's wishes a Private Graveside Service will take place at a later date. McDOWELL

Betty Denise McDowell passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at the age of 79 years, beloved wife of Doug McDowell of Medicine Hat. She also leaves to cherish her memory her children, Blair McDowell and Mark (Jillian) McDowell and their children, Finley, Max, Emery and Madden; one brother, Robert Newson; two sisters, Shirley (Sandy) Hucul and Carol (Richard) Byers; one brother-in-law, Dr. Grant (Donna) McDowell; two sisters-in-law, Mavis Hill and Janice (Gerald) Garrett as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Freela Newson; one brother, Larry Newson and one sister, Merilyn Stevenson. Betty was born and raised in the Kindersley, Saskatchewan area and graduated with a teaching degree from the University of Saskatchewan. She then began teaching in Maple Creek where she met Doug McDowell, whom she married in 1959. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Medicine Hat, where she would teach in the Medicine Hat School District and Doug would begin a fifty year career with McMcMillan Transport. Betty was the anchor for her whole family. Her love and encouragement reached far beyond to all those who knew her. Her most cherished job was super grandma. She will be missed by all. The funeral service will be held in Hillcrest Evangelical Missionary Church (3785 13th Ave SE) on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. with Dr. Grant McDowell and Rev. John Marshall officiating. ROBILLARD, Leonard Joseph

Leonard Joseph Robillard Sr., formerly of Medicine Hat, Alberta passed away on Saturday March 17, 2018 at the age of 91 years. Leonard is survived by son, Leonard Robillard Jr.; daughter, Patricia Weiting;- along with ‘Robbie’s’ siblings Harold, Karen, Wayne and Allan Wright. He is survived by a bounty of grand children and great- grandchildren from a large mixed family raised in Medicine Hat. Leonard is predeceased by his parents, Mary and August; siblings, Johnson, Marlene, Earl, Alice and Louis; daughters, Cindy and Debbie; and grandchildren, Nya and Ryan.
We will say goodbye to Grandpa Len at a small burial service at Hillside Cemetery in Medicine Hat on Saturday, March 31 at 1:00 p.m. The service will be followed by a small gathering at a location to be shared with family at a later time.
