Jeanette Iva Lengyel
1917 ~ 2018
Jeanette passed away peacefully with her grandchildren by her side at Cedar Creek Adaptacare on February 11, 2018 at the age of 100 years.
Mom was the 5th child of seven children born to Joseph and Aristide Croteau. She was born on December 29, 1917 in Lucky Strike, Alberta and homesteaded there until age four when they moved to Warner, Alberta. She completed her education there and worked in the post office until she transferred to Foremost. Here she met her husband John and continued to work in the post office until they were married on October 19, 1946. They made their home west of Foremost and were mixed farmers where they raised their two children. She loved to keep busy whether baking, doing paper tole, crocheting or quilting. They enjoyed travelling to Hawaii and later in their motorhome to Arizona for the Winter. Mom loved her time at the cabin in Beauvais or in Elkwater with her children and grandchildren.
When her husband John passed away in 1992, mom moved to Lethbridge and lived in her own home until the age of 97. She moved to The View for 1.5 years before her health started to deteriorate and she moved to Cedar Creek Adaptacare for the last 2 years.
She is survived by her son Bryne (Donna – deceased) Lengyel and her daughter Karen (Walter) Duda; 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Annette Greeno and her sisters-in-law Muriel and Kay Croteau. On her husband’s side she is survived by Glen Gaydos, Scarlett (Cliff) Collins and Mel (Kim) Gaydos; as well as Irene and Margaret of Kelowna, BC.
She was predeceased by her two infant children; her husband John; daughter-in-law Donna; and by her 5 brothers Ernie, Aime, Laurent, Benoit (Dovey) and Rene; and sisters-in-law Elsie, Ruth and Maxine Croteau.
As per mom’s wishes, a private family mass was held. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those wishing to remember mom can make a donation to the Neonatal Unit of the Regional Hospital (960 – 19 Street S., Lethbridge, AB T1J 1W5) in memory of her babies lost at birth.
The family would like to thank the kind, loving staff and residents at Adaptacare and Dr. Charlotte Haig – you all were very special to Mom. Thank you to Father Kevin Tumback for the special Mass and Carol Treadwell, D’Arcy George and the Resurrection Choir for the music. We wish to thank Martin Brothers Funeral Home and their staff, especially Chris Martin Jong for helping us through this difficult time. GOD BLESS you all.
