BECKER

It is with heavy hearts the family of Howard Ernest Becker announces his passing on October 16, 2017. Howard was predeceased by his wife, Verna Marjorie (Kurpjuweit) Becker; parents, Philip and Emma (Jeske) Becker; infant sister, Elsie; older brother, Gilbert Becker and sister-in-law, Anne (Hermann) Becker. He leaves to grieve his passing his children, Stanley Wayne Becker (Marie) of Irvine, Sheila Mae Thurber; his grandchildren, Lacey Nicole Doyle (Peter) and Shay Philip; great grandchildren, Isis Eve Doyle and Corbin James Doyle, as well as dear friend, Melissa Jacober (and fur baby Belle) all of Medicine Hat. Dad was born May 18, 1932 in Medicine Hat. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Schuler area. Dad and mom were married October 19, 1956 and purchased our family farm south of Medicine Hat just off the Black and White Trail. It was there that they managed the farm and ranch for the next 30 plus years, raising 2 adopted children, Stan (1962) and Sheila (1964). Dad also took great pride in being an independent school bus driver for 23 years, sharing the driving with mom when responsibilities during calving, seeding or harvest demanded his time. Dad was a soft-spoken Christian man whose entire life was dedicated to the church and his family. His faith in God and unconditional love for his family were undeniable. As a proud farmer/rancher, with endless work to be done, church service and prayers were never missed, neighbours were always offered help, volunteering was a priority and friends were always acknowledged. After moving into Medicine Hat, while continuing to farm, mom and dad enjoyed many extended vacations, which included driving the motorhome to Arizona, cruising to Mexico and simplyadventuring countless destinations across Canada and the US. Dad simply loved the open road and if there was map he would drive. His flawless driving record and skills were undisputed making every passenger in his company feel safe. When he retired from his farm duties and they moved into Chinook Village, Dad continued to volunteer in many capacities and looked forward to his daily pool matches with friends. Over the past four years, dad’s health deteriorated, and he could no longer be in his own home. Without complaint, dad moved into continuing care where he remained until the time of his passing. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Clare Rattai and Pastor Mike Leist co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
