1927 ~ FRED YANKE ~ 2017
Fred John Yanke, beloved husband of Dorothy Yanke of Medicine Hat, passed away on Monday, October 16th, 2017 at the age of 90 years. Fred also leaves to cherish his memory his children, Phyllis Day Chief, Harvey (Yvonne) Yanke, Leroy (Cheryl) Yanke, Marilyn (Glen) Emmelkamp, Valerie Yanke, and Sherry (Kevin) Rissling; nineteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Olga Stickel, Marion Kalicum, and Alma Mansel; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his parents, John and Justina Yanke; two brothers, Albert and Chris; and four sisters, Adella, Pauline, Violet, and Bertha. Fred was born on July 3rd, 1927 in Irvine where he was raised and educated. He married Dorothy Schmidt on December 28th, 1951 and they set up their homestead in the Orion area where Fred was a farmer. He was also a bus driver for 25 years receiving the Gold Watch Long Service Award from the County of 40 Mile. In 1976, they retired and moved to Medicine Hat where Dorothy continues to reside. Fred will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends. Deanna Grace Inkster of Medicine Hat, beloved daughter of the late Andy and Harriet Inkster, passed away on Sunday, October 15th, 2017 at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, at the age of 72 years. Deanna is survived by her three sisters, Shirley McDonald, Donna Kennedy, and Sheila (Ernie) Sentes all of Medicine Hat; her nieces, Grace (Curt) Backlund, Michelle (Joslin Webster) Kennedy; nephews, James Inkster, David Sentes, and Richard (Corrie) Inkster, and their families. Besides her parents, Deanna was predeceased by her sisters, Joyce Cameron and Arlene Belcourt; and her brothers, Lawrence, Jim, George, and Graham; and her niece, Sharyl. Deanna was born in Battleford, Sk. and raised in Prince Albert, she lived in Medicine Hat since 1978. Deanna was a client of REDI, a longtime volunteer at the Heart and Stroke, and most recently a resident at Cypress View Lodge. Deanna loved playing bingo at the Lodge or on her IPAD, dominoes, casino slots, Elder’s lunches and potlucks at the Miyawasin, but mostly she loved being with people and her pet buddies. She liked country music and Metis celebrations. We would like to thank the nurses, doctors, therapists and staff at 5E who looked after Deanna during her stay. Ben Anderst went peacefully to meet his Saviour on October 17, 2017 with his family at his side. Ben was born in Linacre, Saskatchewan on March 4, 1928, to Rosie and Dan Anderst. Ben worked with his father drilling water wells and spent his spare time working on his Harley. When he left home, he decided to pursue mechanics and farming. In 1952, he met his wife, Jean Wessner and they were married on July 2, 1954. They started their life and family together in Medicine Hat, they made their home and raised their family in Morse, Saskatchewan, and finally returned to Medicine Hat for their retirement years. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Anderst of Medicine Hat as well as his children, Coleen (Vic) Klassen of Airdrie, and Grant (Melanie) Anderst of Medicine Hat; granddaughter, Vanessa (Jason) Smith and their family; two sisters, Esther Krause of Calgary and Martha Schmidt of Medicine Hat as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Irvine and one sister, Leona Wadosky. Ben will always be remembered and cherished for his kind and gentle spirit and wonderful sense of humour. The memorial service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Lance Duncalfe officiating. Mr. Gordon Frederick Ormiston passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at the age of 85 years. Gordon is survived by his wife, Blanche as well as her children; sisters, Grace Tedesco and Margaret DeValter as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his favorite country cousin, Connie Sheardown and her family. Gordon was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Ella Ormiston and a twin brother, George Ormiston. It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lucille Diane Enslen, beloved wife of the late Bob Enslen, announce her passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, October 16, 2017, at the age of 77 years. Lucille was born on August 14, 1940 in Brooklyn, Nova Scotia, a daughter to Ernest and Hilda Weagle. She grew up in Nova Scotia and completed her schooling there. After working a couple of years, she met and married the love of her life, Bob Enslen in 1960. A year later they moved to Alberta before making their way back east to Ontario in 1963. In 1974, they decided to move to Medicine Hat and have called it home ever since. Lucille was a wonderful lady who loved quilting, traveling, sewing and crafting. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Stephen (Debbie), Jon (Bev), Wally and Caroline (Steve); grandchildren, Marina, Alicia, Dustin, Andrew, Kelsey, Stephanie, Amanda, Ashleigh and Jenna; great-grandchildren, Shawn, Summer, Liam, Lily and Neveah; a sister, Janice (David) Dickie and families as well as good friends, Cheryll Norwood and Ron and Joyce MacDonald. Martin Edward Drescher passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at St. Josephs Home-Carmel Hospice, Medicine Hat on Sunday October 15, 2017, at the age of 83 years. Martin was born on July 5, 1934, in Prelate, SK., where he grew up on the family farm. Martin married Margaret Leech on June 1, 1957, in Medicine Hat, where they raised their family of eight children. He was a loving, caring and considerate husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He loved to camp and fish while surrounded by friends and family. During his favorite time of year (Christmas) he was the biggest kid around the tree and presents. Martin will be remembered for his yearly garden and Sunday afternoon lawn dart games. He loved to watch baseball especially the Blue Jays. Martin cherished time with his family and watching his grandchildren grow and play. He loved to joke and will be remembered for his smile and laughter. Martin was predeceased by the love of his life, Margaret Drescher (nee Leech) of 59 years; he is lovingly survived by his eight children, Mike (Sheila) Drescher, Deb (Rod) Lippert, Sherry Nevins, Brenda (Andrew) Tokamp, Dennis (Laurie) Drescher, Greg (Terry) Drescher, Bonnie (Gabe) Graham and Jason Drescher; along with 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; siblings, Cora Rieder, Rose Ulland, Henry (Hazel) Drescher as well as many nieces and nephews. Martin was predeceased by his parents, Gregor and Maria Drescher (nee Schmierer); brothers, Joe, Markus, Peter, Paul, Tony; sisters, Margaret, Ann, Christina and Regina.
