1927 ~ AFINA LUCA ~ 2017

Afina Luca of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Ion Luca, passed away on Wednesday, August 9th, 2017 at the age of 90 years. Afina leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Radu (Ana) Luca, Viorel (Milena) Luca and Emil (Lore) Luca; two daughters, Flora (John) Petrehele and Ana Luca; nine grandchildren, Sorin Luca, Adriana (Sergio) Cruces, Nadina (Ryan) Westland, Vio Jr. Luca, Jessica Luca, Gabriel Petrehele, Victor Petrehele, Halley Munsch and Thomas Melton; and seven great grandchildren. Afina was predeceased by her husband, Ion Luca; one daughter, Maria Melton; her parents, Nicolae and Maria; and five brothers. Afina was born in Poieni de Sus, Romania on April 11th, 1927. She immigrated to Canada in 1988 to join her children. Afina was a wonderful mother and was so happy to have her children together. Family always came first to Afina. She made many good friends at First Assembly Church and loved to serve the Lord all her life. Afina was well loved by the staff at Sunnyside and Haven Care Centre; she received outstanding support and care from them. Natalie Helena MacLean of Redcliff, Alberta, age 66 years, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, August 7th, 2017 with her family close by her side. In accordance with Natalie’s wishes, there shall be no funeral service. Mary Violet Harvey-Colleaux of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at the age of 101 years, beloved wife of the late Fernand Colleaux. She leaves to cherish her memory six children, Dorothy Jean (Barney) Borsheim of Saskatoon, Arthur (Marie) Harvey of Willowbend Saskatchewan, Fred (Doreen) Harvey of Red Deer, Martin Harvey of Toronto, Lewis Harvey of Vancouver and Derrick Colleaux of Medicine Hat; twenty one grandchildren, thirty one great grandchildren, one brother-in-law Alfred Harvey of Prince Albert as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Reginald Harvey in 1956, her second husband Fernand in 2012 and by one son Harold in 2016. The funeral service will be held in the St. Barnabas Anglican Church (635 4th Street SE) on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Canon R. Ivor Ottrey officiating. Interment will take place in the Ravenscrag Cemetery at a later date. DRAGLAND

Vernon Hoey Dragland of Medicine Hat, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017 at the age of 94 years, beloved husband of the late Edie Dragland. He leaves to cherish his memory one son, Lyle Dragland and one sister, Ethel Chenewski. He was predeceased by his parents, Esther and Oscar Dragland; his wife Edie on September 27, 1980; two sons, Glen and Neil; one brother Orville and one sister Lois Hopkins. Vernon was born on May 10, 1923 in Medicine Hat and was raised in the Maleb/Conquerville area. He farmed, ranched and raised three sons in that area. His passions were horses, the rodeo and going on trail rides whenever he could. He enjoyed having coffee with is friends and was a huge supporter of the Ford Motor Company. ELNATAN (NED) SCHNEIDER

Ned Schneider of Leader, Saskatchewan was born September 7, 1921 in Zhitomer, Ukraine to Julius and Lydia Schneider. He passed away peacefully with family at his side on August 1st, 2017 at the Leader Hospital in Leader, Saskatchewan.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his five children: Vern (Joanne) Schneider, Sharon (Stan) Dieno, Clif (Patty) Schneider, Dean (Shelley) Schneider, and Kent (Lana) Schneider. 13 grandchildren: Lori (Rod) Watts, Vicki (Dwayne) Edel, Lisa (Andrew) Nelson, Mark (Larissa) Dieno, Sue Anne (Glenn) Knights, Christopher (Nicole Brown) Schneider, Crystal (Clay) Tiringer, Shari (Steve) Spearman, Amber (Patrick Toner) Schneider, Jesse (Charity) Schneider, Tiffany Schneider, Tim (Andrea) Schneider and Tia (Kirby) Penner. 22 Great grandchilder: Payton and Erica Watts; Jorja and Faith Edel; Owen and Coleman Nelson; Alex Dieno; Holden and Brooklyn Knights, Colby and Cali Tiringer, Wesley and Brianne Spearman, Jaxon, Ava, Christian, Jace and Abygail Schneider; Wyatt, Raynah and Brynn Schneider and Everly Penner, He also leaves two sisters- Erma Keller and Adenia Saskmann, sister-in-laws Anna Schneider, Margie (Bruno) Pedro, brother-in-law Bill Miller, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ned was predeceased by his parents, his wife Irene Schneider, his brother Emelius Schneider, brother-in-laws Mildren Keller and Reinhold Sackmann, sister-in-law Mable Miller and infant great grandson Nicholas Edel.
Over the years Ned had his hand in numerous business ventures in which he displayed a strong work ethic but his heart was with farming and ranching. He loved fishing, gardening and berry picking and putting the fruit of his labour to good use making homemade soups and jams. Ned was an avid sports fan and loved nothing more than following his children and grandchildren to any sporting event. Everyone will remember him for his love of music and a couple of his favorite old tunes were “Old Shep” and “Home Sweet home”.
In keeping Ned’s Community spirit and love of sports, donations in his memory can be made to the new Leader Curling Club Building Fund c/o the Town of Leader or to the Western Senior Citizens Home Ladies Auxiliary, Leader, Sk. It is with heavy hearts that Scarlet announces that her beloved husband, Robert Eugene Champagne, passed away on Tuesday, August 8 2017, in Medicine Hat, at the age of 42 years. Along with Scarlet, Rob leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Don and Yolande; sister, Pam (David) Malone and their children, Jodie and Cody; brother, Robert Leo Champagne and his children, Justin and Jordan; Scarlet’s family; mother, Margaret (Jake) Giesbrecht; father, Rod Wolfer; brother, Bret (Sheena) Wolfer and their children, Bella, Elijah and Hailey as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Rob loved music, golfing, hanging out with friends and walking his furbabies, Karma and Kahlua. He was a renowned world traveller and handy-man. Rob excelled in everything he put his hand to; which included achieving a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He will be deeply missed!
