BIERBACH

Marie Elizabeth Bierbach (Mayer) of Medicine Hat passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at the age of 81 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Linda (Ken) Biedler of Medicine Hat; two grandchildren, Lindsay Comeau and Lealand Nickerson, both of Medicine Hat; two great grandchildren, Ethan Comeau and Dexton Nickerson; two brothers, Walter Mayer of Oliver, BC and Lance (Carol) Mayer of Medicine Hat; one sister, Josephine (Mel) Hill of Wainwright; one brother-in-law, Ted (Judy) Bierbach of Bowmanton as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Charlie and Helen Mayer; her husband, Leonard in 1994; three brothers, Roy, Clarence and Leonard Mayer; six sisters, Freda Houff, Doreen Woods, Violet Tetz, Geraldine Estabrook, Beverly Woodworth and one in infancy.
Marie was born on February 25, 1936. She was raised and went to school in the Thelma area. Marie and Leonard were married on November 12, 1954. Together, they farmed in the Bowmanton district until Leonard’s passing in 1994. Marie then made Medicine Hat her home. She loved animals and nature, caring for her flowers and vegetable garden, reading and needle point. Marie’s grandchildren, Lindsay and Lealand were a very important part of her life. Then came her great grandson, Ethan; taking care of him before he started school and then after school, gave her such purpose in life. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to have the same relationship with Dexton, as he was born just a year ago. We would like to thank the wonderful staff on 5 East, Palliative Care at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and the very caring staff at St. Joseph’s Home in Medicine Hat. The graveside service will be held in the Hillside Cemetery on Monday, July 31, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Pastor Shane Hein officiating. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the Columbariums at 10:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy donations may be made to Carmel Hospice (St. Joseph’s Home) c/o 156 – 3 St. NE, Medicine Hat, T1A 5M1 or the Canadian Cancer Society 200, 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB T2E 2P5. TESSIER, Laurette Blanche

April 11, 1929 – Cadillac, Saskatchewan
July 25, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

Laurette Tessier of Calgary, passed away on July 25, 2017 at the age of 88 years.
Sister Laurette Tessier, Sister of Charity of St. Louis, died at Providence Care Center, Calgary, July 25, 2017 at the age of 88 year and 67 years of vowed life.
Laurette was born on a farm near Cadillac, SK where she lived until joining the Congregation in 1948. Her years of service included 21 years in the teaching profession in Saskatchewan (Moose Jaw, Marquis, Radville) and Alberta (Calgary, Medicine Hat, Lethbridge). This was followed by 17 years in parish ministry in Lethbridge, AB, and Weyburn, Wolseley, Sintaluta, and Grenfell, SK. She also spent a number of years in the role of archivist for the western SCSLs and coordinated the care of the senior sisters at St. John’s Convent in Calgary.
Her many and varied interests included history, science and writing poetry. By means of “time-lines”, she loved to share her knowledge of church history and sacred scriptures. Her special love for music led to involvement in liturgical music for some 45 years. She helped the poor through the St. Vincent de Paul Society and by sharing table fellowship with many homeless people through the Inn From the Cold Society. Membership in the Calgary Diocesan Ecumenical Commission inspired her to promote the cause of ecumenism.
Sister Laurette will be lovingly remembered by her SCSL Sisters, her family and numerous friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Blanche and Alphonse Tessier; her sister, Rita Chicoine; and brother, Jean-Denis Gravel.
We are grateful for the excellent care given to Laurette by the staff at Providence Care Center.
Memorial tributes in Sister Laurette’s name may be made directly to St. Vincent de Paul Society: Email https://ssvpcalgary.org/support-st-vincent-de-paul/, or to Elizabeth House: Email, https://www.elizabethhousecalgary.ca/copy-of-form.
