1932 ~ ELEANOR JANE DORN ~ 2017

Mrs. Eleanor Dorn of Medicine Hat, beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, passed away Wednesday, June 14th, 2017 at the age of 85. She is survived by her son, Glenn Dorn of Medicine Hat; son, Jerry Dorn of Toronto; daughter, Deb Hannah (Wendell) of Airdrie; son, Rob Dorn (Babette) of Lacombe; and son, John Dorn (Laurie) of Three Hills; her brother, Dennis Lutz of Medicine Hat; eight grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
Eleanor was born in Medicine Hat on June 12th, 1932 to Fredrick and Clara Lutz and lived her early years in Irvine, Alberta where she attended school until Grade 6. At the age of 12, she started working at the Irvine restaurant helping her mother and father. This was to be the start of what would be a 53-year career in restaurant industry. Eleanor had the house to herself until along came her brother, Dennis Lutz in 1949.
While playing Ladies Fastball for the Medicine Hat Orioles, she met John Dorn (who helped coach) and they dated until December 1st, 1950 when they were married in Irvine.
Eleanor and John travelled with a road building crew for the next few years settling in Three Hills so eldest son, Glenn, could start school. Eleanor and John would remain in Three Hills where they raised their five children. Eleanor worked diligently in the Three Hills area and was known for her great humour and tireless work ethic. She moved to Medicine Hat in 1986 to attend to her mother with the help of brother, Dennis Lutz. Eleanor will be greatly missed.

BEIERBACH

Kenneth “Ken” Beierbach passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at the age of 87 years, beloved husband for 61 years of Shirley Beierbach of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Gayleen (Jurgen) Schlenker of Medicine Hat; two grandsons who were the joy of his life, Jared (Carly) Schlenker and their daughter and his “little princess” Hope; Devin (Danielle) Schlenker; two brothers, Walter (Marlene) Beierbach and Leonard Beierbach; two sisters-in-law Rovena Beierbach and Bernice Lehr as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Emma and Gordon Beierbach, one son Blaine Beierbach in July of 1972, one brother Elmer Beierbach, his in-laws, Herbert and Olinda Weiss, three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law. He married Shirley Mae Weiss on November 5, 1955. They were blessed with two children, Blaine Kenneth who was killed in a tragic ranching accident and Gayleen Kim (daddy’s girl). Together they ranched and farmed near the Cypress Hills in the Graburn area. He was a man who took great care of his Hereford cattle, riding many hours to check them. He was a great cattleman, whose stock never went hungry or without enough bedding. Ken accepted the Lord as his saviour in 1972, after his son’s accident. He was a very faithful member of Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church for many years and held many positions. In 1981, they moved to Medicine Hat due to health issues and in 2011, they moved into Chinook Village. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 12 noon – 12:55 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Roland Schlenker officiating. JANE BAKELAAR

November 13, 1926 ~ June 18, 2017
The Lord called home our much loved mother, grandma and great-grandmother, Adriaantje “Jane” Bakelaar, on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at the age of 90 years. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 68 years, Laine; children, William (Anne) and Edward; grandchildren, Lana (Mark) Bottomley, Joya and Daniel (Crystal); great- grandchildren, James, Breanna, Lauryn and Bentley; brother, Henk (Ann) Vandenberg as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jane was born in Rotterdam, Holland and immigrated with her husband to Medicine Hat in 1957, where they raised their family. JOHN STARK

March 15, 1931 ~ June 18, 2017

John Stark passed away peacefully at home while in the loving care of his family on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at the age of 86. ‘Johnny’ is survived by Irene, his wife of 57 years; their children, Rhonda Gergely, Barbara Anne (Mario) Koch, Garth (Colette) Stark and Jim Gergely as well as nine grandchildren (and their spouses) and eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Larry; step-brother, Father Martin Moser as well as numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Gertrude Stark (John Moser); brothers, Nick (and wife Vivian) and Eddie as well as his father and mother-in-law, Philip and Barbara Fauth. Johnny was born and raised in the small town of Mendham, SK. His life there revolved around the family business of Starks Hardware, Mendham Groceries and the Post Office where getting the mail became a daily social event for the locals. Johnny took over the family farm 4 miles south of Mendham and continued to farm until moving to Medicine Hat in 1999. He was involved with many community and church committees including the Grand Knights of Columbus, St Anthony’s parish council, Mendham Rec. Board, Leader Hospital board, chairperson of the Mendham Credit Union, and at the time of his retirement, he was still serving as the Mayor of Mendham. After retirement, Johnny and Irene enjoyed traveling with family and friends, spending winter months in the south. Their home in Park Meadows became the gathering place for everyone. Johnny loved sports but lived for golf and he was the ultimate baseball fan right up to the time of his passing. He was known for his big hands, gentle nature and sense of humor. We will miss you Johnny-bear!! Vigil Prayers will be recited at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be concelebrated at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road S.E., Medicine Hat on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Philip Le and Father Martin Moser celebrant. A time of fellowship will follow in the Parish Hall with Private Interment thereafter at Hillside Cemetery. Nora (Win) passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at the Foothills Country Hospice, at the age of 91. She is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Van Maarion, Sharon Leigh (Gordon), 5 grand children, Heather Neis (Colin), Jennifer Dick (Jonathan), Tanis Neis, James Leigh (Tara), Melissa Neis and her great grandson, Cedar Gyurk Leigh, along with many nieces and nephews and their respective families. Nora was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Van Maarion, her parents, brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Home, High River, AB on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 2:00 pm. A graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery, Medicine Hat, AB on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 4:00 pm with Reverend David Carter officiating.
