1921 ~ ARTHUR DEERING ~ 2017

Arthur Deering of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Lydia Deering, passed away on Thursday, March 9th, 2017 at the age of 95 years. Arthur leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Larry (Joan) Deering and Glenn (Louise) Deering; his grandchildren, Denise Deering, Dan Deering, Derek (Carleen) Deering, Sandon Deering, Mark (Kari Lynn) Deering, Coreen (Terry) Litton, and Paul Deering (Lauren Last); four great grandchildren, Natalia, Rhys, Robyn and Savannah; as well as his daughter-in-law, Edie Gorzo. Arthur was predeceased by his wife, Lydia “Lily”; his parents, John and Otillia Deering; his son, Raymond Deering; and his brothers and sisters, Roy, Walter, Robert, Fred, Richard, Alice Klaudt, and Katy Bohnet. Arthur was born and raised on the farm south of Irvine with his five brothers and two sisters. He married Lydia on November 6th, 1943 in Medicine Hat and they had three sons. Arthur owned his own farm of mixed farming and ranching. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A Graveside Service will be held in late summer 2017. CODY MERLE McCUAIG

1991 – 2017
It is with broken hearts that family announce the sudden and tragic passing of Cody McCuaig on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the age of 25 years. Along with his loving parents, Mac and Cindy McCuaig, Cody leaves to cherish his memory one sister, Nevada (John) Sweeney and their children, Liam, Carter and Sienna. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandparents, Jim and Shirley Northrop; step-grandmother, Geraldine Scott as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and his beloved “furbabies”, Jaxx, Abby, Molly, Cooper and Frisco. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Ken and Merle McCuaig; uncle, Ronald McCuaig and great-grandparents, Alvin and Gwen Savage. Cody was born in Medicine Hat on June 27, 1991. He was raised in Dunmore and received his schooling in Irvine and Eagle Butte. Since 2010, Cody has worked with Bromley Mechanical as a Journeyman Pipefitter. He enjoyed snowboarding and hiking, but more than anything just loved spending time with family and friends. A Celebration of Cody’s life will be held in the Ortona Room at the Royal Canadian Legion, 702 – 2 Street S.E., Medicine Hat on Thursday, March 16, 2017. A short program where anyone present may share their stories will start at 11:00 a.m. with the come and go celebration continuing until 2:00 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to dress casual. Mrs. Edith Irene Sparks passed away at the AgeCare Valleyview in Medicine Hat on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at the age of 94 years. Frieda Irene Giles of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of Mr. Alexander William Giles, passed away March 13, 2017, at the age of 91 years. Frieda was born on May 1, 1925 to Adam and Matilda Helm on the Family farm S.E. of Prelate, SK. She was the 2nd youngest in a family of 15 brothers and sisters, having survived them all. She was devoted to her God Jehovah throughout her entire life. Frieda’s memory will be cherished without the proceedings of a formal funeral service. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma, Marg Sales. She passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the age of 87 years.
Her memory is kept alive in her husband of sixty-two years, Howard Sales; her children, Janet (Greg) Runnalls, Jeff (Esther) Sales, Di (Hal) Cozart, Greg (Sandy) Sales, and Trish (Greg) Brown; fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and her brother Ben (Joyce) Kirkpatrick. It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Shirley Marie Fode, beloved wife of 59 years to Frank Fode, announce her passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, March 13, 2017, at the age of 77 years. Along with Frank, Shirley leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Lynn and Neil (Pam); five grandchildren, Jeff (Kristy), Amber (Scott), Tyler, Courtney (Andrew) and Shayann (Jordan) as well as three great-grandchildren, Marley, Jack and Kinsley. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Margaret Young and her brother, Larry. Shirley was born in Medicine Hat on October 3, 1939 and attended Elm Street School where she met Frank in Grade 8. After grade 9, she went to Garbetts Business College where she graduated with honours when she was 15 years old. Shirley married the love of her life, Frank, when she was 17 and they raised their boys in Medicine Hat. During retirement, she enjoyed family trips, camping, spending time with her grandkids and developing her love of crafts. She enjoyed both Brazilian embroidery and quilting and has made many beautiful projects. She met with her quilting friends once a week where many friendships were made. A celebration of Shirley’s life will take place at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, March 17, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. WIDMER

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Freida Widmer, beloved wife of the late Alfred Widmer, announce her passing in Medicine Hat on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the age of 92 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her two sons, Howard (Darlene) Widmer and Lynn Widmer; four grandchildren and their families, Deanna & Raymond Ries and their son Brett (Tiffany)and their children, Lilly and Cooper; Colleen & Derek Herter and their sons, Kyle and Mitchell; Kerry & Kim Widmer; and Nicolle Ryan (Lorne Ponath) and her children, Deryan, Laya and Brooke; one sister, Gladys Gervais; one sister-in-law, Faye Friesz as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Rudolph and Bertha Friesz; her husband, Alfred; her two brothers, Harry Friesz and Walter (Irene) Friesz; and one sister, Alice (Albert) Schwabe and a brother-in-law Jo Gervais. Freida was born and raised on the family farm near Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan. She attended Bitter Lake School, and married the love of her life Alfred Widmer on November 27, 1941. They grew their farm and raised their family, making Golden Prairie their home. Freida and Alfred were very active within their community, attending church socials, and enjoying a favorite pastime: dancing. Freida loved to dance and she and Alfred attended many local area functions. Getting together with friends and family, playing cards and just enjoying being with loved ones were very special times in Freida’s life. In 1968, Freida and Alfred left the farm to their oldest son, and relocated to Medicine Hat, where they settled into their new home. Although the two of them continued to be involved on the farm, Freida would not allow herself to be idle, and took on kitchen duties at the eHaven of Rest Nursing Home. She enjoyed cooking and stayed on until 1973. Freida continued to pursue various interests in the following years, never straying too far from her passions. Following Alfred’s passing in 1979, Freida enjoyed travelling with friends, bowling, playing cards. She was always sure to be on the garage sale hunt every Saturday morning with friends. Her passions included, cooking, baking, crocheting and tending to her flowers and garden. Freida always remained close with family and these are the memories that her family cherish most. She will be fondly remembered for her loving heart, quick wit, infectious smile and delicious meals from her kitchen. Since 2009, Freida resided in Chinook Village and more recently Meadowlands. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday only, from 10:00 to 10:55 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
