The family of Ernest Marchand sadly announce his passing at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at the age of 91 years. Ernie will be remembered by his wife of 69 years, Eileen; three children, Perry Alan (Diana), Kenneth Edward and Dean Russel (Kim); five grandsons, one granddaughter, seven great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his parents, William & Felicity Marchand (nee Patenaude); a daughter-in-law, Mary; six brothers and four sisters. Jeanette Merrick (nee Schneider) of Wedowee, AL, USA, formerly of Medicine Hat, beloved wife and soulmate of the late Paul Merrick, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at the age of 65 years. Jeanette leaves to cherish her memory two children: Eli (Nicole) Merrick and their children, Elise and Inara as well as Jacquie (Ron) Martinez and their children, Brittany and Danielle; siblings, Carol (Tony) Carter, Ron (Marg) Schneider, Gary (Donna) Schneider, Betty-Ann (Bob) Newman and Laura (Ron) Volk as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Along with Paul, Jeanette was predeceased by her parents, Ken and Eva Schneider. Jeanette was born and raised in Medicine Hat in a strong German household. She was the first family member to earn a University degree, and met her husband and soulmate Paul while at college. Together, they raised two children and had several close friendships. To her, nothing was better than telling stories with friends and family. Jeanette was at all times an entertainer, an organizer, a risk-taker and a missionary. After Paul’s death, she expanded her travels. Jeanette remarried and moved to Alabama, loving the warmth and community. She was the accountant that didn't play by the numbers. During her life, she traveled to 6 continents, was an active member of 5 Christian churches, a proud Oma to 4 grandchildren, enjoyed visiting with her 3 sisters and 2 brothers, had dual citizenship and was one unforgettable lady. She died in Alabama following complications from a previous car accident. She will be missed on Earth and appreciated in Heaven. A Celebration of Jeanette’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on January 5, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery with a time of fellowship and refreshments thereafter in the Cook Southland Reception Facility. Joyce beloved wife of David Martin of Airdrie, passed away on December 14, 2016 at the age of 67 years.
Joyce was born in Calgary to David and Muriel Cooke. She is survived by husband of 47 years, David Leigh Martin and her children Stephen (Lesa) of Calgary, David of Medicine Hat and Loralee of Calgary. She is also survived by her grandchildren Colby and Brooklyn of Medicine Hat and her brother Brian Cooke (Pearl) of Calgary.

Pearl Isabelle Gatz, beloved wife of the late Clarence Gatz, passed away in Bow Island on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the age of 86 years.

Pearl is survived by her son Lorne Gatz of Bow Island and her grandchildren Derek Gatz of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Karli Gatz of Medicine Hat.
She was predeceased by her husband Clarence, brother Melvin and sisters Kathy and Jean.
Pearl was born in Bindloss, Alberta on March 21, 1930 to parents William and Bella Loughridge. She attended school in the Social Plains one room school house and finished her education in Medicine Hat. After high school, she took a Certified Nursing Aide course in Calgary. Pearl married Clarence Gatz in 1952 and they moved to Bow Island where she continued to resided after his unexpected passing in 1971.
