Annie Pauline Degenhardt (Erickson)
1942 ~ 2016
Annie Degenhardt, beloved wife of William "Bill" Degenhardt of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 at the age of 74 years. Annie leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 52 years, Bill; her son, Patrick (Lisa) Degenhardt and their children, Payton and Jaxon Degenhardt; her daughter, Michaelene (Doug) Spencer and their children, Billie and Leighton Spencer; one sister, Vivian Anhelher; four sisters-in-law, Ilene Getz, Delores (Dick) Edwards, Valeri (Rick) Stefani and Gerry Degenhardt; one brother-in-law, John Degenhardt; and many nieces and nephews, as well as numerous family members in Sweden, a heritage she was very proud of. She was always torn on who to cheer for whenever Sweden and Canada played against each other in Curling or Hockey. Annie was predeceased by her parents, Nels and Brita Erickson; her in-laws, Val and Connie Degenhardt; one brother, Johnny Erickson; one sister, Bertha Long; three brothers-in-law, Jack Anhelher, Lewis Long and Mike Degenhardt; and one nephew, Kenny Stefani. Annie was born on August 24th, 1942 in Cabri, Saskatchewan, was raised in Abbey, Saskatchewan and later moved to Medicine Hat where she attended Garbutt's Business College. Annie married her husband Bill on May 8th, 1965. Together they raised their two children in Medicine Hat. She was employed by Lily, Sherlock and Baker Insurance and later became a home maker. Annie will be remembered for her uncanny memory of important dates…in the past and the future. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary and made sure everyone else remembered too. She enjoyed doing yard work and feeding the rabbits and birds in her yard throughout the year. Annie looked forward to family gatherings and loved her family and grandchildren very much, always seeing the very best in them all. She loved to bake and make people happy with her treats, her shortbread cookies were the best. Annie enjoyed watching curling and football, and was proud to be a long-time member of the Legion. At Annie's request, there will be no formal funeral. "Nothing fancy" words she used almost every time she placed a beautiful meal in front of her family. A private internment ceremony will be held in the spring… her favorite time of the year. A Come and Go Celebration of Anne's life will be held at MICHAELENE AND DOUG SPENCER'S RESIDENCE, 1736 – 13th Avenue SE, on Saturday, December 10th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Anne's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice. SCOTT McCRAY
May 31, 1961 – December 6, 2016
Scott Francis McCray, dear husband of Pat McCray of Bow Island, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at the age of 55 years following a brief illness. Scott will be remembered by his wife, Pat; daughter, Bailey both of Bow Island; son, Miles (Ashleigh) of Medicine Hat and his most favorite person in the world – his granddaughter, Mekah (and her mom, Jessy). Also cherishing his memory are his brothers, Allan (Luanne) of Abu Dhabi and their son, Stephen of Seattle, Glenn and his son, Caden of Lethbridge; father-in-law, Tom Yates of Lethbridge as well as Pat’s siblings, Russel (Rochelle) of Coaldale, Shelly and her daughter, Kaelin of Benalto and Murray (Jayne) and their sons, Clayton and Rohdy of Carseland. Scott was predeceased by his parents, Lawrie and Florence; grandparents, Lawrence and Ruth McCray, Marjorie Nosser, and his mother-in-law, Midge Yates. Scott was born on May 31, 1961, in Calgary and spent his early childhood living in Delburne above the Bank of Montreal where his parents both worked. The family moved to Coaldale where he took his schooling graduating in 1979. Scott started working with Calgary Power in Taber and was sent to Bow Island in 1981 as a floater for a few weeks and ended up staying. His career as a power lineman lasted for 35 years. It was at the bowling alley in Bow Island where he met Pat and they married in Las Vegas 30 years ago. Scott was a faithful fan of the Seattle Seahawks since 1976, having made it to a few games in Seattle. He enjoyed spending time with great friends (and you know who you are); travelling, including visits to Eastern Canada, San Francisco, Belize and Hawaii; driving his Chevelle; feeding the inside and outside birds and playing with Mekah. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him and we will treasure all of the memories. Scott was not one for dressing up, so casual attire is fine; Seahawks gear would be wonderful. A Celebration of Scott’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. SOX
Alexander “Zander” Francis Sox passed away in the arms of his loving parents after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, December 4, 2016 in Calgary. Zander was born on April 9, 2012 in Medicine Hat to Landon and Amy Sox of Burstall. He also leaves behind his brother Anthony and his sister Athena; his grandparents, Terry and Margie Volk of Burstall; Alan and Heather Sox of Irvine; uncles and aunts, Myles and Lindsay Peterson; Dan and Marianne Taylor, all of Calgary; John and Jennifer McLeod (Kaitlyn, Paige and Madelyn) of Medicine Hat; great grandmothers, Waneeta Ritter of Medicine Hat and Phyllis Schweigert of Eatonia as well as many other loving relatives.
Zander was an inspiration to many. After being diagnosed with brain cancer at age 3, he proved to everyone how much of a super-hero he was. Becoming a paraplegic, undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, could not stop his amazing personality from shining through. Zander didn’t lose his fight to cancer. He defeated it by taking away the one thing it needed to survive.
The family would like to give big thanks to his entire care team at Alberta Children’s Hospital, Rotary Flames House and the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Special thanks to Dr. Doug Strother and Dr. Nina Hardcastle. We will never forget all that you did for our son. Thank you also to all those who supported us in the last 19 months.
The funeral service will be held in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Shane P. Andrus officiating. In honor of our super-hero, we ask people to wear super-hero shirts if they wish. In lieu of flowers or gifts, in memory of Alexander, donations may be made to the Alberta Children’s Hospital, 2888 Shaganappi Trail NW, Calgary, AB T3B 6A8 or to the Rotary Flames House 18 Childrens Dr NW, Calgary AB T3B 6A8.
