1915 ~ WOELFLE ~ 2016
Mr. Otto Woelfle of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Edith Woelfle, passed away on Tuesday, August 9th, 2016 at the age of 101 years. Otto leaves to cherish his memory one son, Marvin (Edith) Woelfle of Medicine Hat; one daughter, Marylin (Gordon) Teel of Calgary; six grandchildren, Janice Korenic of Kelowna, Judy (Glen) Getz of Medicine Hat and their children, David (Vicky) and Jade, Jackie Doell of Medicine Hat and her children, Keeley and Grayce, Joy (Matt) Huffadine of Medicine Hat and their children, Emily, Hailey and Jason, Sandy (Danny) Polomark of Victoria and their children, Stephanie and Nicholas, and Cheryl (Shawn) Prawdzik of Calgary and their daughter, Sydney; one sister, Anita (Christian) Traxel; one sister-in-law, Tilley Martin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Otto was predeceased by his wife, Edith; his parents, Jakob and Bertha Woelfle; two brothers, Jakob (Elizabeth) Woelfle and Hugo (Annie) Woelfle; and five sisters, Martha (Henry) Fischer, Hertha (Andrew) Schafer, Metha (William) Walker, Irena (Walter) Poffenroth and Alvina (Reginald) Zebedee. Otto was born on February 25th, 1915 at Irvine, Alberta and was raised and educated in the Hilda area. It was in Schuler where Otto met the love of his life and future wife, Edith and they were married in Medicine Hat on October 20th, 1938. Together they farmed in the Hilda area for eighteen years, and while farming, they also had a school bus route, which they worked together. In 1956, they moved to Medicine Hat and continued to farm from the City. In 1958, Otto formed Necker & Woelfle Construction with his partner, Arnold Necker. He built many commercial and residential homes in Medicine Hat and surrounding areas, including the Chinook Building in downtown Medicine Hat, and several Royal Bank buildings in Brooks and other towns. In 1975, they sold both the farm and construction business, and retired. Otto enjoyed travelling with Edith, gardening and woodworking. He was also an avid supporter of the Medicine Hat Tigers, Medicine Hat Blue Jays and Mavericks baseball teams. Otto and Edith were longtime members of the Hillcrest Evangelical Church. The Funeral Service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, on Saturday, August 13th, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Lance Duncalfe officiating. A private family interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery. Mrs. Beatrice Marguerite Armstrong of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Mr. Thomas Armstrong, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, August 8, 2016, at the age of 85 years. Beatrice leaves to cherish her memory: children, Joanne (Don) Mitchell of La Broquerie, MB., Bob (Dalyce) Armstrong of Medicine Hat, Roger (Pauline) Armstrong of Leduc, AB., Donald (Judy) Armstrong of Estevan, SK. and Richard (Jackie) Cannon of Edmonton, AB.; grandchildren, Mandi (Devin) Urlacher, Josh Armstrong, Tamara (Robbie) Armstrong, Scott (Maria) Mitchell, Mark Mitchell, Chris (Elisha) Mitchell, Bradley (Tracy) Fox, Cheryl (Craig) Langdon and Richie (Veronica) Cannon; 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Annette (Richard) Cheverette and Yolande (Bob) Comstock; brothers, Paul (Faith) Séguin and Georges (Jéanne) Séguin as well as numerous nieces, nephews and special friend, Fran Frey. Along with her husband, Beatrice was predeceased by her sisters, Claudette Beuchard and Rejeanne Belanger. Beatrice was born on January 17, 1931, in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. She was raised in the small community of Swastika, ON. and received her schooling in Kirkland Lake. Beatrice worked in her Dad’s grocery store until her marriage to Thomas on July 11, 1953. In 1968, they moved out west, settling in Burstall, SK. After Thomas’ retirement in 1983, they moved to Medicine Hat where they managed apartment buildings for a number of years. Beatrice moved into the Teeoda Lodge in 2005, and then into the Cypress View Lodge in 2012, where she resided until her passing. Beatrice was a very community minded individual as shown through her years of involvement with the Ladies Auxillary of the Royal Canadian Legion. She enjoyed playing darts (often leaving tiny holes in the ceiling above the board) and was also on the welcoming committee at the Teeoda Lodge for a few years. Beatrice also enjoyed watching curling and numerous other sports on TV, especially her Flames! She was a very social person and enjoyed playing crib, camping, knitting and pretty much any other activity where she had someone to visit with. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew her. Family wish to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff and nursing care professionals at the Cypress View Lodge and the 4 West at the Medicine Hat Hospital for the exceptional care that Beatrice received. A Celebration of Beatrice’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Francis Tran officiating. Meada Mary Heidinger of Medicine Hat passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at the age of 98 years, beloved wife of the late Albert Heidinger. She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Carol (Ray) Williams of Redcliff, Dennis (Wendy) Heidinger of Medicine Hat, Sandra Helfrich of Baynes Lake, BC, Valerie (Tim) Seitz, daughter-in-law, Pat Heidinger and son-in-law, Don Andreas, all of Medicine Hat; twenty six grandchildren, Lyle (Angela), Rob, Duane, Darrell (Angela), Darcy (Tanya), Donna (Joe), Murray (Cora), Kevin (Cindy), Leslie, Wade (Liz), Terry (Lisa), Trevor (Debbie), Bonnie, Justin, Crystal (Kelly), Jeff (Laura), Jason, Kelly (Christine), Anthony (Megon), Jon, Evan (Brianna), Jaron (Lisa); four step grandchildren, thirty seven great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren; one brother, Martin Schlinker of Medicine Hat; one sister, Bertha Fraser of Drumheller as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Martin and Maria Schlinker; her husband, Albert on September 23, 1981; two sons, Melvin and Leonard; one daughter, Loretta Andreas; son-in-law, Bernie Helfrich; three brothers, Jack, Fred and John and three sisters, Molly Stuber, Tina Kent and Emma Stickel. Meada was raised in the Wisdom area. She married Albert Heidinger on May 30, 1936. Together they farmed in Woolchester and raised a family of seven children. In 1972 they retired to Medicine Hat. After Albert’s passing, Meada enjoyed gardening, knitting and going for walks to meet friends for coffee or lunch. In 2009, due to an accident, Meada moved to Chinook Village where she resided until the time of her passing. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and at the church from 12:30 p.m. to 1:25 p.m. The funeral service will be held in Hillcrest Evangelical Missionary Church (3785 13th Ave SE) on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Mark Bolender officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. John Leon Buziak passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital following a brief illness on Monday, August 8, 2016, at the age of 95. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of almost 65 years, Florence Buziak. He is also survived by his six children, Ray (Marie Johnson) of Grande Prairie; Roger (Pat Lanctot) of Medicine Hat; Beatrice Ching (David) of Calgary; Vera of Lethbridge; Val Buziak (Harry Hensel) of Lethbridge; and Carla (James Prus) of Coaldale; 14 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; his brothers, Carl and Eddie of North Battleford Saskatchewan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dad was predeceased by his father, Leon and mother, Dora Buziak (nee Spak), his brothers, Mike, Albert, Tom (Stella), Raymond, Ludwig, Alex, Felix (Clara), and his sisters, Anne (Kasmier Bartkewich) and Elizabeth (Kasmier Muszko).
Dad was born near Redfield, Saskatchewan on November 5, 1920. He remained in that area during his childhood, spending time with many members of that tight-knit community, including the Chomickis, Swystuns, Pidwerbeskys, Ewanchuks, and many others.
He joined the army in 1939 and was sent to The Pas, Manitoba for basic training. Following that, he was shipped overseas and served in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy.
Upon returning to Canada in 1946, dad began working in infrastructure construction, building roads and irrigation dams. Despite spending his formative years in Saskatchewan, dad chose to make Medicine Hat his home when the company for which he worked transferred him in 1950. He invited Florence, whom he had met in North Battleford, to join him and in November 1951, the two were married and started their lives together in a small basement suite on the Flats. They later moved to the southwest hill, and finally to their home of 50 years in Crestwood. Dad spent 25 years working for Canada Post, until his retirement in 1985. For the past five years, he was residing in Sunnyside Nursing Home, where he was visited daily by Florence and frequently by his children, grandchildren, and family friends.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so beginning one hour prior to the Funeral Service which will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Bob Findley officiating.
