MARJORIE JEAN VOELLER

It is with great sorrow that our family announces the loss of our mom/grandma, Marjorie Voeller, beloved wife of the late Mike Voeller. Mom took her last stroll in her garden at her home in Foremost on July22, 2016 at the age of 81 years. Mom was born in Floran, Alberta on July 9, 1935 to Edward and Anna Williams. A younger sister to Babe and Laura Ann, and an older sister to Norm who came along a few years later. Mom lived in and completed her education in Foremost, later going on to the University of Calgary and the University of Lethbridge to get her teaching degree.
Mom then started teaching at Hoping, and then on to Etzikom. It was there that she met dad, the love of her life. Mom and dad were married in February 1958. After they were married, they lived in the bunk house on the Hearn family farm in Etzikom, as dad was a hired hand there. Mom continued teaching for awhile until she put her career on hold when they became the parents of two children. After the births of Coleen (1959) and Fred (1962), mom and dad moved to Conquerville where she resumed her teaching career. Following the birth of Todd in1965, dad became “Mr. Mom”, sharing in the caring for us with Florence Voeller until we were old enough to go to school. Mom continued teaching at Conquerville until the school closed in 1985. She was then hired at the Rosedale Hutterite Colony in Etzikom where she continued to teach until her retirement in 1994. In 1986, after the death of her mother, they moved to Foremost, purchasing the family home. Mom was able to spend a year with dad before his passing in 1995.
Mom touched a lot of people: friends, family, and her students. While she was teaching, she was given the name “Hawkeye” by some of her students (you know who you are!) because she never missed a thing! Quite often, past students would randomly show up at the house just to say hi, share a coffee and visit.
Growing up, we spent a lot of time camping at various places and boating at Grassy Lake. One of her great memories was from when she and dad went houseboating on the Shuswap with a group of their friends. Mom was tickled pink by the births of her grandchildren, who she spoiled unbelievably. Then came the births of her great grandchildren, who she spoiled even more. She alway said how fortunate she was to be able to meet all of those little bundles of joy.
After her family, mom’s next love was her gardens (flower and vegetable) and bird watching out of her kitchen window. During her life, the coffee pot was always on and the birdbath and bird feeders were always full.
Mom is survived by her children, Coleen (Micheal) Galipeau, Fred Voeller and Todd (Stephanie) Voeller; her grandchildren, Aimée (Greg) Sarsons, Dallas (Tammy) Galipeau, Kole and Miah Voeller, Lindsey and Michael Voeller, and her great grandchildren, Latin, Emmitt, Quinn and Grayson; her sister, Laura Ann (Harold) Wesley; her brother, Norm (Muriel) Williams as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Mom was predeceased by her dad and mom, Edward and Anna Williams; her husband, Mike; her daughter-in-law, Sharlene; her sister, “Babe” and brother-in-law, “Red” Wadams; and nephews, Frank and Keith Wadams.
A celebration of her life will be held in the Foremost Community Hall (802 1 Ave W) on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Dave Sarsons officiating. Interment will follow in the Foremost Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, NWT & NU, 100 – 119 14 St NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 or Canadian Cancer Society 1865 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 1Z8 or the Foremost Community Hall, 802 1 Ave W, Foremost, AB T0K 0X0 .
