Mick was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Margaret Baker; his wife, Mary Ellen on February 26, 2008; his brothers, Lyle, Harry, Jim and Ted and his sister, Evelyn McGowan.
Mick enjoyed a long successful career with Federated Co-op. He began his career in Killam, with moves to Vegreville, St. Paul, and then to Medicine Hat where he retired as general manager approximately 30 years ago. He could be found at coffee time, playing “bush” with his fellow employees.
Mick especially enjoyed the annual family vacation to Fairmont Hot Springs. The week was filled with golfing, swimming, and coming together each night for “Happy Hour”. Mick enjoyed his friends and his New Year’s Birthday Parties were a highlight of the year. Mick had an infectious sense of humour and loved a good joke. Mick was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. His children and grandchildren could rely on him for guidance and support, as he was always ready with a listening ear and a helping hand. Upon his retirement his days were filled with golfing, curling and spending time with his family. He also became Mary Ellen’s personal assistant, chauffeuring her and her champion Shih Tzu’s around the province. Over the years, Mick and Mary Ellen were able to travel to Europe, Hawaii, and Mexico, but he was always happiest at home. Mick’s last ten years were spent at The Good Samaritan’s in assisted living, where he received excellent care and was loved by all his care givers. He spent his time watching his favourite game shows, as well as hockey and curling in the winter and following his beloved Blue Jays in the summer. The funeral service will be held in the Good Samaritan Society (550 Spruce Way SE) on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplain Dallas Hjorth officiating.
