1929 ~ HANSEN ~ 2016
Donald James Hansen, beloved partner of 34 years to Margaret Stromsmoe of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 4th, 2016 at the age of 86 years. Don also leaves to cherish his memory his five children, Darrell (Linda), Deborah, Lorne (Teresa), Dale (Denise) and Terri (Wayne); 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his children's mother, Margaret Hansen; Margaret Stromsmoe's children, Joanne (Bruce), Guy (Pam), Michelle, Morgan (Janet); 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 17 step-great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; 3 sisters, Betty, Pat, and Donna (George); 1 brother, Pete (Gladys); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Don was born on October 19th, 1929 in Mannville, Alberta. His profession, training horses was his pride and joy. A special thank you to all the staff at St. Joseph’s Home Carmel Hospice. A Celebration of Don's Life will be held at the SEVEN PERSONS COMMUNITY HALL, on Wednesday, June 8th, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Please bring your stories and memories and dress in your jeans and casual wear. Nora Winifred Roberts of Red Beach, Auckland, beloved wife of the late Arthur Roberts, passed away on Friday, May 27th, 2016 at the age of 84 years. Nora leaves to cherish her memory four children, Colin Roberts, Glenn (Diane) Roberts, both of the U.K., Sandie Hubbard (Wendy Siggery) of New Zealand, and Beverley (Robert) Dalliston of Sydney, Australia; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Melanie) Hubbard, Amy (Darren) Thomson, Sean Dalliston, Sarah Ellen Dalliston, Georgia May Roberts, Niall Roberts, and Jonny Roberts; four grandchildren, James and Joshua Sustins, Luke and Katelyn Hubbard. Nora was predeceased by her husband, Arthur; her parents, Sydney and Elsie Leaver; one brother, Edward; and four sisters, Irene, Joan, Betty, and Dorothy. Nora was born and raised in Brandon, Coventry, England where she also attended school. She joined the WRAF as a wireless operator and was enlisted to Changi, Singapore where she met Arthur and they were married in Brandon, England on June 5th, 1954. They started a family and returned to work before immigrating to Canada in 2006 to be closer to family. Nora enjoyed singing and tap dancing. In 2011, she moved to New Zealand. Jerome “Jerry” Peter Bitz passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016, at the age of 80 years, beloved husband of Mary Bitz of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory four children, Beverly Picard of Calgary, Murray (Shelly) Bitz of Medicine Hat, Myra Bitz-Marshall of Calgary and Brian (Karen) Bitz of London, England; nine grandchildren, Sean, Danielle and Colin Picard; Myles and Sarah Bitz; Adam and Katrina Marshall; Isabella and Charlotte Bitz; one sister Anne Linderman of Medicine Hat and twelve brothers and sisters-in-law as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Margaret Bitz; two brothers, Sebastian Bitz and Peter Bitz; two sisters, Rose Gutfriend and Barbara Schmaltz. Jerry was born on November 25, 1935 in Burstall, Saskatchewan, and married Mary Lanz on October 7, 1961 at St. Patrick’s Church. Jerry worked for 35 years at D.R.E.S. In Suffield. He loved camping and boating, travelling with Mary, and spending time with his family and friends. Jerry will be remembered as a loving, caring, devoted husband and father who had a strong catholic faith. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (238 2nd Ave N.E.) on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Tomy Manjaly celebrant. A private family interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
