BITZ
Jerome “Jerry” Peter Bitz passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016, at the age of 80 years, beloved husband of Mary Bitz of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory four children, Beverly Picard of Calgary, Murray (Shelly) Bitz of Medicine Hat, Myra Bitz-Marshall of Calgary and Brian (Karen) Bitz of London, England; nine grandchildren, Sean, Danielle and Colin Picard; Myles and Sarah Bitz; Adam and Katrina Marshall; Isabella and Charlotte Bitz; one sister Anne Linderman of Medicine Hat and twelve brothers and sisters-in-law as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Margaret Bitz; two brothers, Sebastian Bitz and Peter Bitz; two sisters, Rose Gutfriend and Barbara Schmaltz. Jerry was born on November 25, 1935 in Burstall, Saskatchewan, and married Mary Lanz on October 7, 1961 at St. Patrick’s Church. Jerry worked for 35 years at D.R.E.S. in Suffield. He loved camping and boating, travelling with Mary, and spending time with his family and friends. Jerry will be remembered as a loving, caring, devoted husband and father who had a strong catholic faith. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (238 2nd Ave N.E.) on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Tomy Manjaly celebrant. A private family interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. KAPCALA
Edward Kapcala of Medicine Hat, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at the age of 81 years, beloved husband of the late Betty Kapcala. He leaves to cherish his memory seven children, Terri (Robert) Bainbridge, Dean (Allison) Kapcala, David Kapcala, Donna Goldade, Bruce (Dana) Timko, Tracy Weinrauch and Shane Kapcala (Cynthia Nelson); fifteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one brother Karl Kapcala as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Betty on March 23, 1998; two brothers, Joe and John; one sister Margaret Gourlay as well as his twin sister at birth. Throughout his life, Ed was employed at the local dairy, Safeway in the produce department but the career he enjoyed the most was his 35 years at CP Rail on the B & B. He had a vast array of duties such as painting CPR buildings, attending train derailments, a sign painter and maintenance man. He enjoyed his time spent with coffee buddies, casino pals, and acquaintances; some of which only knew him as the “Candy Man”.
The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
