1936 ~ BROOKES ~ 2016

Judith Brookes of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Dr. David Brookes, passed away on Friday, May 6th, 2016 at the age of 79 years. Judith leaves to cherish her memory one son, Simon Brookes of Medicine Hat; one daughter, Joanne Brookes (Shelby) of Costa Rica; and one brother, Duncan (Pat) Fletcher of Tideswell, England. 1946 ~ SALIK ~ 2016

Allan Peter Salik, beloved husband of Anna Salik of Medicine Hat, passed away on Friday, May 6th, 2016 at the age of 69 years. Allan also leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Debbie (Ernie) Hagemeister, Shelly (Darrell) Drefs and Melissa Meier; seven grandchildren, Shannan Drefs, Rachael Seefried, Nathan Seefried, Joshua Drefs, Brennan Meier, Kaden Meier and Piercen Meier, and their dad, Darcy Meier; two brothers, Earl (Carolyn) Salik and Brian (Gail) Salik; buddy and brother-in-law, Ben Hermann; as well as numerous other in-laws, nieces and nephews. Allan was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Mary Salik. Allan was born on December 6th, 1946 in Prelate, Saskatchewan. He married Anna Hermann on June 19th, 1971 and they would have been married 45 years this June. Allan worked at Canada Safeway for 40 years, retiring in 2011. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, camping, fishing and just enjoying the outdoors. What Allan loved most was spending time with his family. He will be missed dearly and his memory cherished by all those who knew him. JASMAN, Clifford Frederick

April 1930 – May 2016
Born in Medicine Hat, Alberta
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and brother. Dad passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Calgary. Cliff leaves behind his past wife Mary, 4 children; Charmaine of Calgary, Vicki (Ralph) of Medicine Hat, Barry (Loy) of Rocky Mountain House and Dwayne of Onaway, Alta. He also leaves behind 14 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren, as well as three sisters, Marlene of Red Deer, Lorraine (Gwen) of Lethbridge, Lois (Dave) of Edmonton and numerous nieces and nephews. Cliff is predeceased by his Parents and one son Terry. Cliff was a oilman as his father was before him. The legacy continues with his son Barry. He worked his way up from a roughneck to engineer. His work took him to Iran in the early sixties, as well as Quebec and Nova Scotia (where his picture appeared on the cover of oilweek!) in the seventies. He later had his own company called Blue Knight Enterprises. Dad was raised and lived throughout Southern Alberta and he will be happy to be laid to rest in an ancestral plot in Grassy Lake, Alberta. Right in the Heart of Southern Alberta. Our Family would like to thank the staff at Bethany Harvest Hills for the excellent care… he very much enjoyed his stay! PERCY

Ronald James Percy “Ron” age 56, resident of Redcliff, passed away with family by his side. He leaves behind to mourn, his wife of 17 years Anna Percy, his children Candi (Dela), Amy Finnerty (Jesse), Andrew Lundstrom and Amber Lundstrom (Brendan). His four grandchildren, Syah, Style, Tressie and newest member Elder James. Ron will also be missed by his mother Victoria (Ken) Gair, parents-in-law John (Dina) Carvalho.
Ron has left a void in lives of his brothers-in-law, John (Margaret) Carvalho, George (Leslie) Carvalho, Joe Carvalho, sister-in-law Fatima (Kyle) Miranda, his nephews Michael, Jordan, Marcus, Nicholas, Lucas, Kai and niece Jayden. Ron is predeceased by his father Mr. Alvin Percy.
Ron wasn’t a man of many words but he had a big heart. He took pleasure in having his house filled with love and lots of laughter. Many good times were held in the Percy home. Ron had a passion for music, weekend camping, golfing and playing pool with Lloyd Lundstrom whom he considered a true friend.
We would like to extend a sincere “Thank You” to Ron’s cousin Terry Reban who through this difficult journey has been Anna’s pillar of strength. It’s been an emotional year but with your guidance and understanding you’ve made it that much more bearable.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the Redcliff Legion, (302 Broadway Ave NE). SCHMIDT

Catherine “Laurie” Schmidt passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016, at the age of 82 years, beloved wife of Alfred “Al” Schmidt. She also leaves to cherish her memory four children, Trent (Susie), Brian (Gayle), Brad (Ann) and Wade (Jeanette); her grandchildren, Chantelle ( Scott ), their son Ethan; Tyler ( Hope), Brianna, Kayla, Andrew, Meghan and Sean (Sarah); one brother Clarence (Sandy) Massine as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Eva and Andrew Massine, one daughter in infancy and one brother.
Laurie was born in Holdfast, Saskatchewan on August 18, 1933. Her family moved to Hillcrest, Alberta where she completed her education. She then moved to Calgary to pursue a nursing career. While working as a nurse in McLennan, Alberta she met Alfred, who at that time was a young constable in The RCMP. They were married on June 21, 1958. While residing in Grande Prairie all four of their sons were born. The family then moved to Rocky Mountain House for nine years and then to Brooks, Alberta in 1972. When Alfred retired from the RCMP in 1977, the family then moved to Whitehorse, Yukon where they resided until full retirement in 1987. Upon retirement they became full time travellers until 1994, when they decided to settle in Medicine Hat, Alberta and finally retuning to Brooks in May of 2012.
Laurie’s boys meant the world to her and were her pride and joy and this love was passed down to all of her grandchildren as they came into her life. She had a great ear for music and loved singing. She was a director of the Catholic Church choir in Brooks and also sang at many weddings and funerals.
Also, through the years she was a first aid instructor in some of the remote areas of Alberta as well as a leader in the Boy Scout Organization.
Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the church on Wednesday from 12:00 – 12:55 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Philip Le celebrant. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
