Don wanted to be a farmer and decided to stay home and work on the farm with his dad. In 1963, he married Shirley Brost and for two and a half years he worked as a drywaller in Medicine Hat before moving back to the farm in 1965. The experience from this job kept him busy right up to his last year with family and friends that needed help with their homes. While on the farm, Don was on the Many Island Grazing Association for several years. Don and Shirley enjoyed many years camping and fishing with their children, other family, and friends. They were also fortunate enough to travel to Disneyland, Hawaii and Acapulco. In 1988, they started travelling with their motorhome to Arizona and California which they did for many years. They loved their cruises to Alaska, Panama and the Carribean. In 2003, they retired into Medicine Hat and enjoyed their new home with family, grandkids and many friends now close by. Don loved the farm and was very proud of what was accomplished over many years. He was still able to help Aaron combine this past fall for a couple of days. He was also proud and happy that the farm had taken care of four generations of Elharts and “maybe” a fifth. He has always been the family advisor even at times when they didn’t ask for it. He was loved and will be remembered by all. GORDON ELMER BEIERBACH

June 8, 1928 ~ April 29, 2016

Elmer Beierbach, beloved husband of Rovena of 63 years, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 29, 2016, at the age of 87 years. Elmer was born in Medicine Hat to Gordon and Emma Beierbach, the eldest of 4 sons. Dad was raised and received his education in the Graburn area not far from the Cypress Hills. On October 25, 1952, Elmer married the love of his life, Rovena Weiss, in the Grace Baptist Church. After their marriage, they began farming and ranching. During their early years, they were blessed with two children, Sandi (1953) and Doug (1956). Dad and Mom sold the old place and in 1959, they moved their family and their farming/ranching to Graburn, 5 miles north of the Cypress Hills. Dad loved his Hereford cows and his John Deere tractor. After many years of hard work (seeding crops, haying, branding, moving cattle to the Cypress Hills for summer grazing and fall round-ups to bring the cattle home for the winter) and nasty blizzards. Dad and Mom said “enough” and retired to Medicine Hat in 1978. In town, dad had the most beautiful flowers and the lushest, greenest lawn. The highlight of Dad’s life was when his granddaughters, Brandi, Jodie and Krista were born. He carried the girls here, there and everywhere showing them pictures, flowers and whatever they wanted to see until they were old enough to walk. Many trips were made to Grandpa’s candy dish. September 2014, Dad moved to Sunnyside due to failing health. Along with his wife Rovena, Elmer is survived by: his children, Sandi (Ed Beach), Doug (Rhonda) Beierbach; granddaughters, Brandi Beierbach, Jodie (Brad) Fisher, Krista (Cory) Vossler; great-grandchildren, Toby and Zoey Fisher, Payton and Hunter Vossler; brothers, Ken (Shirley) Beierbach, Walter (Marlene) Beierbach and Len Beierbach; sister-in-law, Bernice Lehr as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter in infancy, Kathy; parents, Gordon and Emma Beierbach; parents-in-law, Herb and Olinda Weiss; sisters-in-law, Marlene and Josephine; brothers-in-law, Lavern Weiss, Ernie Lehr and Vic Opp as well as one niece and two nephews. In honouring Elmer’s wishes, his life will be remembered without the proceedings of a formal service.

“If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I’d walk right up to heaven and bring you back again.”

A come and go celebration of Elmer’s life will be held at Rovena’s home, 2975 – 15 Avenue S.E. (behind Chinook Village) on Thursday, May 5, 2016, between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. We, the family, would like to thank all of the staff at Sunnyside for the wonderful care and compassion they provided to Dad. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting our website at http://www.cook southland.com) If friends so desire, donations in memory of Elmer may be made to the charity of one’s choice. KOSOLOFSKI

ANNE C. KOSOLOFSKI, beloved wife of the late Michael Kosolofski, passed away surrounded by the love of her family at the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge on Wednesday, April 27th, 2016 at the age of 89 years.
Anne will be lovingly remembered by her three children and their families; Stan (Marcia) Kosolofski and their children: Kyle (wife Becky and their children, Cassie and Caymbree), Taren (husband Simon Roger and their children, Kya and Jack) and Brooke Kosolofski; Kathy Forster and her children: Kristen (husband Nathan Whitling and their children, Josh, Cassie, Lauren and Ethan), Nathan (Asteid Forster and their children, Nneka, Nya and Amari); Annette (John) Jangula and their children, Morgan (Nicole) and Spencer (Kristen Crowe).
She is also remembered by her siblings: Lillian Schmidt, Ron (Suzanne) Schmidt, Wayne (Noreen) Schmidt and her sister-in-law Eldene Schmidt.
Along with her husband Mike, Anne was predeceased by her parents, Wendelin and Katherine (nee Tumbach) Schmidt, her brothers Dick and Fred Schmidt and her sisters, Margaret Dafoe and Rosal Sykes.
Mom was born in Prelate, Saskatchewan on January 7, 1927. She was the second oldest in a family of eight children. Mom loved all things domestic: baking, gardening, fancywork, embroidery (especially her tea towels, which are a cherished item among the girls), knitting, quilt making and cross stitch, to name a few!) She made many of these treasures for her family and was always willing to share them with others.
Mom and dad were married June 13, 1945. She clearly remembered that the day of their wedding was a Wednesday because the store that she worked in with her brother Fred was closed that day! She worked incredibly hard during this time of her life as she had two young children and also helped her mom care for her two younger brothers. Mom was very active in her community and her church. She was a lifetime member of the CWL. Faith and prayer were very important to mom; she never missed attending mass, praying a daily rosary and saying her daily prayers.
Mom moved to Lethbridge in the spring of 2008. This was a difficult move for her as she had to leave behind her house, yard and well-fed stray cats. As the years went by, her health began to deteriorate and in 2015, she moved to Legacy Lodge where she was able to receive more specialized care. Mom often spoke of “going home” and we thought she was talking literally but now realize she wanted to leave her earthly home to be reunited with Dad and the other important people in her life who predeceased her.
The Funeral Mass for mom will take place at ST. PATRICK’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 238 – 2nd Avenue N.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, on Friday, May 6th, 2016 at 11:00 A.M.
The family has entrusted arrangements to Cornerstone Funeral Home Ltd. of Lethbridge.

PAUL POLISKY

July 1, 1969 ~ April 27, 2016

Paul Raymond Polisky of Medicine Hat, succumbed to his long battle with kidney disease on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at the age of 46 years. Paul was born on July 1, 1969, and from the start was a bright and creative child. Before he started school, he loved to be read to and he would ask for the funny parts of stories to be pointed out to him. He was also very interested by science and would often be talking about interesting scientific questions. By the time he started school, he had taught himself to read and became a life long avid reader of all types of books. During school, Paul’s creativity showed through music and art. He studied piano at the United Conservatory of Music and played in their festivals in Calgary, Lethbridge and Red Deer. He earned his grade 8 Toronto Conservatory Certificate. When he was 11, Paul’s teacher, Sister Alfreda, noticed and nurtured his talent in art. She incorporated painting into her program and encouraged him to paint. That year, he had a piece chosen for the children’s art display. In later years, Paul struggled in school and had difficulty being understood or supported. Because of this, he went to Medicine Hat College to complete his grade 12. In this supportive environment, he excelled in chemistry, physics and math and he earned his advanced university entrance grade 12 diploma and enrolled in calculus. After years of dialysis, Paul received a kidney transplant in 2002. He enjoyed a few years of freedom from those appointments, woking for the city and travelling to visit family before he had to once again start dialysis. In his final months, Paul lived a quiet life. Between dialysis visits, he had coffee with friends and family and spent time reading and resting. Despite his medical treatment, Paul’s health deteriorated to the point where his life ended while in the hospital surrounded by family. Paul is survived by his beloved son, Austyn; parents, Ray and Mildred Polisky; sister, Lisa (Greg) Wallis and their children, Sophie and Lachlan; brother, Murray (Gina) Polisky and their children, Sam and Alex as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, beginning at 6:00 p.m., one hour prior to the start of Vigil Prayers which will be recited on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road S.E., Medicine Hat on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Father Philip Le celebrant.
