1921 ~ KURPJUWEIT ~ 2016

Lavern Arnold Kurpjuweit of Seven Persons, beloved husband of the late Marianne Kurpjuweit, passed away on Wednesday, April 13th, 2016 at the age of 94 years. Lavern leaves to cherish his memory his two children, Brian Kurpjuweit and Brenda Millions and their families. 1934 ~ BAXTER ~ 2016

John Baxter, beloved husband of Agnes "Nessie" Baxter of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, April 12th, 2016 at the age of 82 years. John also leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Anne Baxter; two grandchildren, Allison (Bryan) Jeal and their children, Kaiden and Isaac, and Andrew Scott; three sisters, Chris, Ella (Bill), and Margie all in Scotland; and one sister-in-law, Pat Cook. John was predeceased by his parents, Archibald and Christina; one grandson, Derick Scott; and two brothers-in-law, Andy (Agnes) Cook and John Cook. John was born on March 30th, 1934 in Scotland. While in the British Military, John served in the Black Watch in Japan and Korea from 1952 to 1954. He married Nessie in Scotland on July 21st, 1956. While in Scotland, John worked for a Stationery Company. John and Nessie moved to Canada in 1966 settling in Edmonton. He began working for Canada Post as a letter carrier in 1968 retiring in 1994 when they settled in Medicine Hat. He loved hockey and was a staunch Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He loved the company of his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. John and Nessie enjoyed many trips to Scotland, were avid walkers and dog lovers. John will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends. The Funeral Service will be held at ST. JOHN'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 504 – 2nd Street SE, on Saturday, April 16th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Nancy Cocks officiating. Faye Lana Schmidt of Medicine Hat, beloved companion of Dan Muzyka, passed away on Thursday, April 7th, 2016 at the age of 72 years. Faye leaves to cherish her memory her three children: Darren Snow of the Ukraine, and his children, Connor, Dayton, and Darika; Peter (Keri) Schmidt of Kamloops; and Lisa (Jason Nerbus) Snow of Grand Forks, BC; and one sister, Fern (Jon Olizarewicz) Snow of Vancouver, BC. Anton “Tony” Victor Hagel passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at the age of 79 years, beloved husband of Beatrice Hagel of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory two children, Martin Hagel of Red Deer and John Hagel of Edmonton as well as several brothers and sisters and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Magdalena and Victor Hagel. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Home (156 – 3 St. NE) at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Albert Sayson celebrant. 1925 ~ 2016
Mrs. Mable Schwabe of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Mr. Edwin Schwabe, passed away at the Valleyview Continuing Care Facility on Monday, April 11, 2016, at the age of 91 years. Mable was born to Dan and Louisa Meier on the family homestead, 20 miles Southeast of Medicine Hat in Norton, AB., on January 16, 1925. This is where she was raised, receiving her education at Concordia School. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew her. Mable is survived by nieces, nephews and their families as well as numerous friends made throughout the years. Along with Edwin, she was predceased by her parents, two siblings in infancy as well as her sister and brother-in-law. A Private Interment honouring Mable’s life will take place at Hillside Cemetery at a future date. Alexander “Sandy” Charles Meyer passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016 at the age of 70 years, beloved husband of Laura Meyer of Medicine Hat. He leaves to cherish his memory four children, Clark (Lindsay) Meyer of Calgary, Charles (Irina) Meyer of the Ukraine, Clint (Katie) Meyer of Rocky Mountain House, Sandra (Glen) Bergdahl of Medicine Hat; his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Dayna; Jeremy (Melody and Cooper); Josh; Talissa; Adrien (Aleigha and Tristan); Amber and Justin (Everleigh and Daxtin); Stacey (Brittni); Sasha; and Alius; one brother Rex Meyer of Medicine Hat; one brother-in-law Earl (Donna) Mahaffy of Lampman, Saskatchewan as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
