BECKER
Verna Marjorie Becker passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016 at the age of 80 years, beloved wife of Howard Becker of Medicine Hat. She also leaves to cherish her memory her children, Stan (Marie) Becker and Sheila Thurber; her grandchildren, Lacey (Peter) and their children, Isis and Corbin; and Shay Thurber; and her brothers, Alvin (Gladys) Kurpjuweit and Craig Lois) Kurpjuweit. She was predeceased by her parents, Herman and Olga Kurpjuweit and one sister-in-law, Joanne Kurpjuweit. Mom was the eldest of three siblings, raised on a farm south of Medicine Hat. She was a good student and avid reader, and throughout her life, continued to enjoy a good book whenever she had a chance. She always showed great compassion for animals and would sometimes prefer the company of a favorite horse or dog to people. As a young woman she played baseball, rode horses, worked on the farm and actively participated in all elements of farming and ranching. In 1956, she married Howard Becker, and after a short time in the Schuler area, they purchased the ‘Shaw’ ranch where they lived and raised their family until moving into Medicine Hat. In 1962, Howard began driving a school bus, which Mom would drive any time the farm needed Dad’s full attention. As a family, they enjoyed camping and made great memories taking summer holidays to many different magical places from camping in Fairmont to driving to Disneyland. Mom was always involved with the church, volunteering for many positions over the years. Even after Dad wasn’t able, she faithfully attended Little Plume until her passing. Mom’s commitment to God and her family always came first. Mom and Dad were founding members and both lived in Chinook Village until Dad moved to South Country Village in the summer of 2013, and then Mom in February of this year. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 – 10:55 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
