1921 ~ MACLEOD ~ 2016

Margaret Macleod of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late John Macleod, passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan's on Saturday, March 5th, 2016 at the age of 94 years. Margaret leaves to cherish her memory numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret was born on December 22nd, 1921 in Bankhead, Alberta. She lived in Crowsnest Pass before marrying and moving to Calgary for many years. Margaret eventually moved to Medicine Hat to be closer to her family. She has spent the past 14 years at the Good Samaritan's and has made many friendships with the residents and staff. A Private Time of Remembrance will be held at a later date. 1923 ~ GREENWOOD ~ 2016

Mostyn Earl Greenwood of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Doris Greenwood, passed away on Sunday, March 6th, 2016 at the age of 92 years. Mostyn leaves to cherish his memory his children, David Greenwood (Liane Perrior), Judith Graham, Kim (Fred) Rowley, Diane (Tom) Vair, Janet Stang, and Karen (Bob) Marshall; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mostyn was predeceased by his wife, Doris; his parents, Chester and Annie Greenwood; one son, Murray Greenwood; one son-in-law, Ken Stang; and three brothers, Rud, Len and Colwyn. Mostyn was a World War II veteran. He worked for Canada Post as a letter carrier for 38 years and enjoyed collecting stamps and coins. Mostyn was raised as a market gardener loving nature and the outdoors, hunting and travelling. He also enjoyed playing cards and crokinole. His family and faith were very important to him and he will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. 1943 ~ PETERSON ~ 2016

Melvin Roy Peterson, beloved husband of Penny Peterson of Medicine Hat, passed away on Sunday, March 6th, 2016 at the age of 72 years. Mel also leaves to cherish his memory his children, Terry (Kim), Melanie (Tyler), and Mike (Jen), all of Medicine Hat and Tammy Schubrink of Blackfalds, Alberta; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his brothers, Dennis of High River, Dale (Linda) and John (Betty) of Assiniboia; his sister, Penny of Moose Jaw; numerous nieces and nephews; and his little buddy, Stewart. Mel was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Jessie Peterson; and his sister, Barb. Mel was born and raised in Assiniboia and went to school there as well. He moved to High River, Alberta in 1973 and later to Medicine Hat. Mel met Penny in 1982 and they were married in 1986 spending almost 30 years together. Mel loved trapping and hunting. He loved life and had a great sense of humour. Mel worked at various jobs from agricultural, industrial, truck driving, selling farm machinery, contracting and building grain elevators. He worked for Cypress Farm Supply and then Lawrence Meier Trucking until retirement in 2004. His fur babies were very important to him as were all of his children and their families. The Peterson boys were always close, right up to the end. ANNE MARIE PIERCE (nee SKJEI)

1930 ~ 2016

Beloved wife and mother, Anne Marie Pierce, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Friday, March 4, 2016, at the age of 85 years. Along with John, her husband of nearly 65 years, Anne is survived by her children, Dave (Lauralee), Nancy (Robert) Dempster, Darrell (Kima) and Doug (Jaylene); grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Brieanna (Greg) Clark and their children, Brock and Thomas; Kadena (Quentin) Phillips and their children, Brennan and Stryker; Tamara (Benny) Pierce and their son, Arda; Lee (Heidi) Pierce and their son, Kayden; Jana Pierce; Sloan Pierce; Shane (Brittany) Pierce; Lindsey (Dwight) Hodel and their son, Davis. Anne is also survived by sisters, Elaine Lawrence and Sandra Krawec; brothers, Gary (Mary) Skjei and Paul (Helen) Skjei and their families. Anne was predeceased by her parents, Ludwig and Eldred Skjei and by her brothers, Doug, Dennis and Glen Skjei. Anne was born on the family farm near Swift Current, Saskatchewan on May 22, 1930. She graduated from the Medicine Hat General Hospital Nursing School along with her life-long friends as the class of ‘51. Anne and John married on August 6, 1951 and raised their four children in the house that they built on 7th Street S.W. Anne loved reading, especially murder mysteries and she usually had a jigsaw puzzle on the go. She was a quilter and an accomplished knitter, supplying the family with socks and toques. For many years, John and Anne traveled to Yuma, Arizona in the winter, making many friends there from all over the US and Canada. Anne was active with the Medicine Hat General Hospital Nurses Alumnae. Along with her family, she will be greatly missed by her nursing classmates and her many friends. The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation to the Home Care nurses who cared for Anne with kindness and respect. They would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational, speech and respiratory therapists as well as the many other health care providers at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital who cared for Anne from the time she had her stroke in 2013 to when she passed away. It is with deep sadness that we announce that Susanna “Susan” Guy passed away with her family by her side, on Thursday, March 3, 2016. She leaves to mourn her, her beloved husband of 69 years, Harold. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Arnold (Elaine) Guy of Winnipeg and daughter Lorraine Moston of Medicine Hat; her grandchildren, Terry (Lisa) Moston, and Alison (Bob) Allen; three great grandchildren, Justin Moston, Jordan Moston and Jayden Moston who brought much joy into her life as she did their’s. She also leaves three sisters, Flora Osterman of Lethbridge, Katie Miller and Tillie Sauther, both of Medicine Hat as well as numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved four legged friend Rex. She was predeceased by her parents, Hilarius and Mary Mardian, three brothers and two sisters. Harold and Susan lived a quiet life, but enjoyed family gatherings. They also travelled to visit their son within Canada and Europe. It would be remiss not to mention the fabulous apple and blueberry pies and homemade buns that she made with love for her family. KIRSCHENMAN

It is with great sadness that the family of Louie Kirschenman must announce his passing on March 5, 2016, after a brief illness at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Louie was a constant friend and a steadfast supporter of his church and community. His large family and wide circle of friends will miss him very much. He was born on January 3, 1927 in Neudorf, U.S.S.R. He immigrated to Canada with his parents at the age of two. Louie grew up in the Burstall, Saskatchewan area and farmed there all of his life. He was predeceased by his first wife Viola (Freimark) in 1988. He married Elsie Ziegler (Roth) in 1992, and they lived happily together in Medicine Hat. Louie is survived by his wife Elsie; his children, Dale Kirschenman, Peggy (Dan) Miller, Sheila (Dave) Reinheller, Doris (Claig) Herter and Ryan (Kathy) Kirschenman; Elsie’s children, Ron Ziegler, Charlotte (Brian) Bristol and Arvid Ziegler; sixteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one brother, Fred Kirschenman as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his first wife Viola, Louie was predeceased by his parents Katerina and Jacob Kirschenman, one brother Jake Kirschenman and three sisters, Katie Becker, Martha Glock and Pauline Kirschenman. Anna “Anne” Marie Lerner of Medicine Hat passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016, at the age of 97 years, beloved wife of the late Jerome Lerner. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Ernie (Doris) Lerner, Marilyn (Jim) Ogston and Tim (Lorie) Lerner; her grandchildren, Crystal Lerner, Tanya (Jeremy) Colleaux, Melanie (Courtney Atkinson) Meier, Darcy Meier (Melissa Reid), Ryan (Shari) Ogston, Nolan (Kaylee) Lerner and Chantel (Jamie) Goldring; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Edwin (Eileen) Friedt; three sisters, Eleanor Miller, Frances Christman and Loretta Stark as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Anton and Katherine Friedt; her husband Jerome in 2013; one son, Allan in 1962 and two brothers, Tony Friedt and Tom Friedt.
