HOFFART
Katherine (Kathy) Hoffart born Dec. 26, 1928 passed away at the Carmel Hospice at St. Joseph's Home, Feb. 29, 2016 at the age of 87.
She was born on the Urlacher family farm southeast of Fox Valley, Sask.
She was predeceased by her husband Anton (Tony) Hoffart in 2007, her parents Ambrose and Mary Urlacher, sisters Lonie, Polly and Rose; brothers Steve, Walter, Henry, Joe, Frank and John. Brothers-in-law Peter and Charlie Hoffart, Rae Puckett, Otto Schmidt, Don McKenzie and Selmer Sunde. Sisters-in-law Johanna Hecht, Mary Hoffart, Emilia Schmidt and Debbie Urlacher.
She is survived by her son William (Hannah), children Curtis and Amanda Hoffart; Anthony (Pam), children Abbie and Kelsey Hoffart; daughter Catherine (Cathy)(Gerald) Schneider, children Crystal (Jody) Wintonyk and Johnathon Schneider.
Katherine was an avid gardener until she retired to the assisted living community in 2008, where she remained until the time of her death.
She spent a lifetime crocheting, knitting, sewing and quilting. She gave many gifts of handcrafted doilies and quilts.
She was a partner with her husband, owning and operating the farm. She helped worked the land for more than forty years until they retired to Medicine Hat, Alta. in the fall of 1987.
The highlights of her days in retirement were surprise visits from her grandchildren. Talking to Curtis and Amanda how their jobs were going. Hearing about Abbie and Kelsey's dance competitions. She phoned Crystal every Sunday to see how her week had gone and if she was done school. Trips to Fox Valley to watch Johnathon's volleyball tournaments and when he coached the Lady Legends volleyball team, she would phone every day to see if they had a successful weekend of tournaments and always wished the team good luck and congratulations on their success. Visits with Cathy and her little dog, Carlos, seemed to brighten her days. She missed the animals. Mini vacations to the Schneider home always provided her with entertainment caused by the turmoil with the cattle and how quickly a day could change. Her famous last words regarding the cattle were "sell the whole works." She phoned all her children every day to see what the weather was like and what was new in our worlds. She visited with her best friend Hazel Henderson, they remained friends for more than twenty years.
She will be greatly missed.
A quote from her "this is only Grumpy Granny, grosses glicke (not sure of the German spelling), in English it translates to Good Luck.
The funeral service will be held Monday, March 7, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fox Valley with interment in the family plot in Fox Valley Cemetery. Prayers will be held at 7:30 p.m., Sun., Mar. 6 at St. Mary's Church.
