Constance "Connie" Magdalena Butler (nee Beck) of Medicine Hat passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the age of 83 years. CHRISTOPHER JACOB GERBRANDT CD

It is with great sorrow that the family of Sheriff Christopher Gerbrandt announce his sudden passing on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at the age of 46 years. Chris was born in Ottawa, Ontario on September 14, 1969. At the age of 12, Chris joined the army cadets, and later enlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces in 1987. Chris continued his military involvement as a Captain with the army cadets, which he loved and actively participated in until the time of his passing. He also worked with Calgary Transit for 13 years. Chris began his career with the Alberta Sheriffs in 2008, and was posted to Medicine Hat where he primarily served at the local court house. Chris had a passion for photography, and most evenings and weekends were spent taking photographs of sports teams and players, cadets, and other special events. Chris was also a proud member, and the club photographer for the Medicine Hat Burns Club.
He is gone too soon but will always be in our hearts. Survived by his loving wife, Kimberly; sons, Kyle and Kolten; parents, Gary and Norma Hurst of Calgary; brothers, Robert (Bonnie) of Barrie, Ontario, and Michael of Vilna, Alberta; nephew, Gary; and many more family members and friends. Chris was predeceased by his father, David Gerbrandt on March 26, 2000.

Mr. Kenneth Bailey, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Marilyn Bailey, passed away at the St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Monday, February 1, 2016, at the age of 79 years. Ken was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on September 13, 1936. He married Marilyn Lutz in 1973 and together they raised their family. For many years, Ken spent a lot of time on the road as he was a long-haul truck driver. He was a man of faith and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ken will be remembered by his children, Benton (Barb) Bailey and their son, Teagan and Starla Bailey. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas and mother, Mary; wife, Marilyn and granddaughter, Kyra Ann Bailey. LEDENE-STRIEGLER-BENNETT

1916 ~ 2016
Hilma Ledene Striegler Bennett passed away in Medicine Hat. She was the beloved mother of Patricia, Gary, Leo (Lois) Ledene; grandmother of Daniel (Sheree), Shayne (Valerie) Bliss and Lindsey Ledene; great-grandmother of Laurie (Jamie) Waller and son Avery (Brittany) Shalena, Cassie, Chanelle (James) Scott. She is also survived by 10 great-great-grandchildren. Mom was born in the little Hamlet of Klitton in Alvdahlen, Sweden on November 1, 1916 to Olaf and Anna Festin. Mom came to Canada when she was 7 years old with her Aunt Hilma Forsen and never got back to Sweden. She had a good life with her Auntie as she was the only girl. They had a butcher shop in Southern Saskatchewan. She came to Alberta in response to an add by Grandma Ledene looking for a Swedish speaking housekeeper. There she met their son, Arthur Ledene (our Father) and married him in 1935. In 1963, she married Edward Striegler, a cowboy from Clinton sawmill, B.C. He predeceased her in 1989 and she married Geoffry Bennett in 1993. Mom was a very hard worker and did lots of baking, canning vegetables, fruit and meat. She also did lots of sewing for the ranchers and raised rabbits, chickens and siamese kittens. Mom was predeceased by her parents, her three siblings and two grandchildren, Dayne and Cindy Bliss as well as her two sons-in-law, Dempsey Bliss (1972) and Harry ‘Scotty’ Fraser (2004).

LORAINE HART-TONGS

July 14, 1960 ~ January 29, 2016

Loraine Norma Hart-Tongs, beloved wife of David Arthur Tongs, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Friday, January 29, 2016, at the age of 55 years. She was born in Eastend, SK., and raised on the family farm north of Ravenscrag, SK. Loraine graduated from Eastend High School and furthered her education studying as a Health Care Aid at SIAST and received her RNBN at Medicine Hat College and University of Calgary, completing her COHN through Grant McEwan College. She was extremely proud of her continued education efforts and achieved more than she ever thought possible. She married the love of her life and soul mate, David Tongs on September 22, 2007. Loraine’s faith life and spiritual connection with founded in the United Church in Shaunavon, SK. Her nursing career began in the hospital then continued into long term care facilities. With her background and knowledge, she taught first year nursing students at the Medicine Hat College for a number of years. Loraine then accepted a position with the City of Medicine Hat as an Occupational Health Nurse where she continued her studies and received her COHN designation, while continuing to work for the City until her passing. Loraine enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, gardening and reading and most recently spending time with family and being a very active grandma. She loved her family and raising her kids along and was always involved with helping the parent teacher association and hot lunch meals for school, as well as being a Girl Guide leader, Pathfinder leader and a Sunday school parent teacher. Some of Loraine’s most memorable moments, were the birth of her children and watching them grow up, time spent with family and friends, finding her soul mate in Davey and the vacation with Mariann and Mike in Hawaii. The challenges in Loraine’s life were many, but through her perseverance and putting the pieces together, she accepted it as an opportunity to learn and create stepping stones to improve her knowledge. Loraine’s memory will be forever treasured in the hearts of her true love in her husband, Davey; children, Graham Hart and his children, Camille, Veronica, Presley; Christie (Jason) Lewis and their children, Kinley, Nixen and a little one on the way; Ron (Monica) Hart and their children, Rae, Parker, Vincent; sister, Mariann (Michael) Johnston and her nephew, Jesse (Vanessa) as well as all the extended family in the UK. She was predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Norma Olson (nee Studer) as well as grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Loraine’s Life will be celebrated at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, February 5, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz and Pastor Bob Findley co-officiating. 1970 ~ 2016
Mr. Shane Cockerill passed away in Calgary, Alberta, on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at the age of 46 years. Shane was born January 13, 1970 in Lynn Lake, Manitoba. In his younger years Shane loved quadding with his sister, Bonnie on the farm in Manitoba. His love of animals and kids only extended into his family whom he loved dearly. Shane loved to travel the world especially in Europe including the Vatican in Rome, Venice and Spain. His travels also took him to Cabos San Lucas, Mexico, where he was as a deep sea dive instructor. He loved sports having played minor hockey for about 10 years and was a great figure skater placing second in the Provincials in Manitoba in 1984. Shane had an infectious smile and a laugh that brought joy to those around him. He will be forever remembered in the hearts of his parents, Keith and Vina; siblings, Kerry (Barry) Reppnack, Bonnie (David) Deneka, Shawn (Christine) Cockerill; nieces and nephews, Darnel (Rhandi) Deneka, Miranda Deneka, Gage Cockerill, Brody Cockerill; great-nephew, Dryden and great-niece, Hunter. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Frank (Teenie) Crudden and Charlie (Nora) Cockerill. SHEUER, TILLIE-PAULINE

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Tillie Pauline Sheuer. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. Tillie passed away peacefully in Calgary on Monday, February 1st, 2016 at the age of 94 years. Tillie leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Marilynn Newfeld of Calgary, and Joy Osgood of Grand Forks British Columbia; six grandchildren, Chris (Jenna) Osgood, Mitchell (Melody) Osgood, Jeff Newfeld, Cyrie (Chris Pinquet), Dean Newfeld, and Wade (Sharon) Newfeld; seven great grandchildren, Joshua (Amanda) Parker, Alexandra Parker, Mackenzie Osgood, Sydney Osgood, Max Osgood, Bo Newfeld, and Misty Newfeld; two great great grandchildren, Sydney Parker and Ally Parker; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Tillie was predeceased by her husband, Ed Sheuer; her parents, Emilie and Peter Goetz; three brothers, Alfred, Herb, and Edwin; three sisters, Leah Olsen, Alma Langford, and Irene Pederson; as well as two sons-in-law, Ken Newfeld and Peter Perepelkin. Tillie was born on March 24th, 1921 at Surprise, Saskatchewan. She married Ed Sheuer on July 1st, 1939 in Medicine Hat where they continued to make their home. The family will fondly remember the many happy celebrations, including their 50th and 60th anniversaries that they shared together, they actually did celebrate 62 years. In her younger years, Tillie was very active in church activities such as the friendship club, ladies aide, and was also a member of the choir. She loved to bowl and golf with Ed, and on weekends they would spend time at Elkwater Lake in their trailer with their many friends, go for the occasional stroll, and enjoying their boat on the lake. Her family was extremely important to her, there is no love greater than she had for her family. She will be dearly missed. A Private Interment will take place in the family plot at Hillside Cemetery.
