1925 ~ FREDERICK ~ 2016
Rose Marie Frederick (nee Bonogofsky) of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Emil Frederick, passed away on Tuesday, January 26th, 2016 at the age of 90 years. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Garry Garrecht of Medicine Hat; two daughters, Karen Mali of Medicine Hat and Carol (Mike) Nay of Apex, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Perveen, Anita and Kevin Mali and Kyle and Nicole Nay; one sister, Theresa (Bill) Weisgerber; three step-children, Raymond (Dorothy) Frederick, Betty (Don) Earl and Marlene (Errol) Renn and their families, grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Edward Garrecht; her daughter, Diane Garrecht on January 26th, 2006; her parents, Max and Mary Bonogofsky; five brothers, Bill, Joe, Val, John and Pete; and one sister, Francis Biko. Rose was born on May 13th, 1925 on the family farm in Prelate, Saskatchewan where she was raised and educated. She married Edward on October 3rd, 1944 at Liebenthal, Saskatchewan. Together they moved to Medicine Hat shortly before moving to Taber, returning to Medicine Hat in the early 1960's. After Edward's passing Rose continued to live in Medicine Hat. She met and married Emil Frederick on March 14th, 1975. Rose enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed baking for her family and the company of her family and friends and will be missed dearly by them. Ruth Purvis of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late John Purvis, passed away on Tuesday, January 26th, 2016 at the age of 79 years. Ruth leaves to cherish her memory her one son, Noel (Janelle) Purvis of Medicine Hat; three daughters, Belinda (Darrin) Dominique of Sudbury, Ontario, Carmen Carry (Blaine Sweet) of Okotoks, and Noreen (Greg) Enslen of Edmonton; seven grandchildren, Cullen, Alyssa, Genevieve, Lauren, Noah, Aiden, and Payton; two brothers, Don (Joan) Horban and Jim (Jean) Horban; four sisters, Anne Strobel, Elizabeth Holton, Esther (Terry) Williams, and Irene (Al) Beaudoin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, John; her parents, Paul and Olga Horban; one brother, Joe Horban; and two sisters, Mary Horban and Judy Murray. Ruth was born on July 13th, 1936 in Franchere, Alberta where she received her education. She moved to Edmonton where she met John and they were married on July 11th, 1959 in Edmonton. John and Ruth moved to Kerrobert, Saskatchewan where they ran the family farm. In 1991, they relocated to Medicine Hat where Ruth worked as a cook, retiring in 2000. Ruth loved her grandchildren and spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all. Steven "Steve" Michael Murphy of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully with his wife and loved ones by his side on Tuesday, January 26th, 2016 at the age of 54 years. Steve leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Kat Murphy; his son, Mitchell (Crystal) Armstrong; his daughters, Chantille Armstrong, Amanda Armstrong (Coree Paskaluk), and Tiffiny Armstrong; two grandchildren, Lilly Armstrong and Kali Paskaluk; his mother, Clara Murphy; two brothers, Patrick (Bernadette) Murphy and Jerry (Jackie) Murphy; one sister, Regena (Daniel) Merkley; four nephews, Kyle (KJ) Murphy, Braden (Robynne) Murphy, Stuart Murphy and Jeff Murphy; and one niece, Katlyn Merkley. Steve was predeceased by his father, Leo Murphy. Steve was a man with a big heart who was always willing to help others. He also had a great sense of humor. Steve was a successful entrepreneur with big ambitions. He loved camping and quading, especially in the mountains, travelling and golfing. The Medicine Hat Tigers were his favorite sports team. Steve loved his family and truly enjoyed the time he spent with them, especially his grandchildren. Anne J. Wohlgemuth, beloved wife of the late Ernst A. Wohlgemuth, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on January 26, 2016, at the age of 98 years. Anne was born in Altona, MB. on June 21, 1917, to Jacob and Katherine Harder. Upon graduating from Grade 12, she worked part-time at the Co-op store and printery. Anne left for Winnipeg where she did menial jobs until she started working as a switchboard operator in the Defense Industry during the war. Later she was hired by the CPR at the Royal Alexandra Hotel as a switchboard operator for 19 and a half years. Anne lived in Winnipeg and Gimli, MB.; Vancouver, B.C.; Union, Ontario and finally settled in Medicine Hat until her passing. Anne’s first marriage was to Stanley Hammond from 1946-1949 right after the WWII, of which time he spent 14 months in Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg before his passing. Anne’s second marriage to Sidney Cox, RCAF in Gimli, Manitoba. He was killed in a car accident in Saskatchewan, which also left Anne seriously injured as she spent seven weeks in Midale Hospital recovering. She had been widowed for 13 years before marrying, William G. Marriott, and were together for 33 years. After Bill’s passing, Anne remained widowed until her marriage to her childhood sweetheart, Ernst on April 19, 2004. They were the happiest together until Ernst’s passing in 2010. Anne is survived by her step family; Joan Mason and her son, Richard; daughter-in-law, Carole Marriott and her family; Leigh Anne, Cathy, Candy, Bill Jr., Crystal and their families and her many great-grandchildren. Anne was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Katherine; two brothers, Frank and Dave; three sisters, Eva, Tien and Mary; step-son, Bill Marriott and step-granddaughter, Lisa Haag. Anne had many nieces who were very dear to her, especially, Sharon, Louise, Maureen and Suzanne. She knit all of them baby outfits and much more. A Celebration of Anne’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13th Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Lance Duncalfe officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery along side her husband Ernie. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in memory of Anne’s may be made to a charity of one’s choice. On January 27, 2016 at 6:00 a.m., we lost our loving Wife and Best Friend, Mother, and Grandmother. Sharon died peacefully with her daughters and husband by her side.
Sharon is survived by her wonderful, caring and loving husband Dennis Gaumont. She also leaves behind her beautiful daughters Alexandra Chell (Justin Lobdell), Lauren Chell and their supportive father Stan Chell.
Sharon would also like to recognize her fantastic stepson and daughter-in-law Marc and Sherri Gaumont; precious granddaughters Brette and Kadi Gaumont, Kira Chell, McKenna Lobdell and Alyssa Lobdell; very special Aunt Loreen Wright and her children Glenn Wright, Patricia Wright, Randy (Cathy) Wright and James (Kris) Wright, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Sharon was the special niece of and predeceased by her Aunt Lillian (Bub) Wright, Uncle Orville Wright and Aunt Grace Spoonheim. A special thanks to Oncology Dr. Veronica Sam and Dr. Don Morris at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and their caring nurses. Also a special thanks to the Palliative Care doctors and nurses and all the wonderful staff at the Rosedale Hospice.

1972-2016
Kevin Weiss, beloved son of Sophie Weiss and the late Stan Weiss, passed away peacefully at the St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre, on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 after a hard fought battle with cancer at the age of 43 years.
Kevin is survived by his mother Sophie; brother’s Kent (Melissa), Kyle (Cali) and sister Kari (Stuart) Traber. Also surviving Kevin are 4 nieces; 4 nephews; 1 great-niece as well as numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and their families. Kevin was predeceased by his father Stan in 2011.
Kevin was born in Taber, Alberta and has lived in various cities and towns as well as a brief time in Germany while attending university, most recently residing in Lethbridge. Kevin began his work experience at SF Scott in Medicine Hat. He then managed the Consumer's Distributing in Swift Current and after receiving his Bachelor of International Management, he worked in various financial institutions, most recently as Branch Manager of 1st Choice Savings in Taber. Kevin enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing, gardening, anything outdoors, fine wines, exotic foods, travelling and new experiences. Friends and family will remember Kevin as an intelligent, kind, caring gentle giant.
A Celebration of Kevin’s Life will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4 Street South, Lethbridge, with Pastor Rodger Halvorsen officiating.

Mrs. Ruth Evelyn Friesen, beloved wife of Abram Friesen, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at the age of 83 years. Ruth was born July 29, 1932, in Stonewall, Manitoba. She was born one of four children to Ludwig and Bertha Gross. Ruth married Abram on April 25, 1952, in Winnipeg and celebrated 63 years of marriage. Throughout the years they resided in many communities before finally settling in Medicine Hat. Ruth was quiet in nature and enjoyed going to bingo, cross-stitch and knitting, in which she had a knack for making doll clothes. Ruth was a devoted lady to her husband, Abram and her family. She will be remembered by Abram; children and grandchildren: Wayne Friesen and his son, Thomas; Rae Kunze (Hank) and family, Cindy (James) Gibbons, Christine (Dennis) Kovacic, Chartotte (Walter) Mandel and Carolynne (Steve) Wolfe; Wendy Hrenyk (Vern) and their family, Jody (Blayne) Levesque, Kristy (Bob) Jones and Amy Hrenyk (Steve Grant); Brian Friesen and his children, Kellie, Karla, Megan and Jake Friesen; Larry Friesen; 16 great-grandchildren and a sister, Elsie Kenning.
