RIEGEL
Rev. Arthur “Art” William Riegel peacefully went to be with his Lord & Saviour on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at the age of 94 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 72 years, Lydia (Lil) Riegel of Medicine Hat; his daughters, Bev Schultz, Cheryl (Richard) Schatz and Gloria (Brian) Stevenson; seven grandchildren, Shannon (Jeremy), Ryan (Cheryl), Misty (Dwayne), Shane (Kyrie-Lynn), April (Graham), Krista (Braden) and Jonathan (Jill); fifteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Ed (Esther) and Mel (Bertha); one sister-in-law, Thelma Riegel as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Dorothea Riegel; one son in infancy; four brothers, Henry, Emil, Rudolph and Bill; his three sisters, Emily Stein, Adeline Engel and Marie Engel; and one son-in-law Doug Schultz. Art was born on September 13, 1921, in Lipton, Saskatchewan. Even from an early age, he was never one to shy away from hard work. Living on the farm taught him how to trap, work the fields, and care for others. As a young child, he would stay up late and memorize Scripture, resulting in over 200 verses memorized. In the spring of 1936, Art met the love of his life, Lil. Before they were married in 1943, Art began his first pastoral assignment. Over the years, Art served as pastor to numerous churches, taught at Hillcrest College, served with the Evangelical Conference in many capacities, studied in Jerusalem, and ministered in Trinidad. Art loved to work with wood and built many carpentry projects. He also loved to work with his camera, video recorder and computer. He was fascinated with technology and even enrolled in a computer class when he was in his 80's. Art was a quiet, but resolute gentleman who would do anything for those in need. He was well respected and has left his family with a legacy of spiritual faith that will continue to lead them. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Sunday evening from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 – 10:55 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the Hillcrest Evangelical Missionary Church (3785 13th Ave SE) on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Bolender officiating.
