MARSHALL (Marsall)

Michael”Mike” Alexander Marshall of Medicine Hat passed away on Friday, November 20, 2015, at the age of 94 years, beloved husband of the late Katie Marshall. He leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Jeff (Bernice) of Mendham, Mark (Sonya) of Calgary and Mike (Pam) of Redcliff and predeceased by his youngest son Melvin, daughter-in-law Valerie Marshall (nee: Nicoll). He also leaves to cherish his memory seven grandchildren, Sherry (Sean) Chase of Regina, Daren (Melissa) Marshall of Medicine Hat, Jodie (Jason) Giesbrecht of Kindersley, Shawn Marshall (Erika Mahoney) of Calgary, Cash Hagen of Calgary, Adam Marshall and Katrina Marshall both of Medicine Hat as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Anna (nee Materi) Marshall and all his siblings. Mike A. Marsall was born on March 17, 1921, on the homestead near Mendham, Saskatchewan. He grew up in that area and lived most of his life there. In 1947, he married the love of his life, Katie Neigum. Together they farmed in the Mendham area until 1965, when they semi retired to Medicine Hat and Mike continued to farm from the city. Growing up Mike had a natural athletic ability. He played baseball for the Mendham Gophers as a center fielder. He may have only stood 5'2" but he could outrun anyone and still today memories of his speed are shared. When family or friends would stop by for a visit, Mike would be watching either baseball or hockey on T.V. He was an avid fan of both. His biggest thrill was when his youngest son Melvin was picked up by the Medicine Hat Tigers. In retirement he and Katie enjoyed their many leisurely trips to Las Vegas. Mike was a quiet, gentle and unassuming man as well as truthful and honest. If you ever wanted to know the honest truth just ask him. He was a teacher of many lessons with his words and actions. Never lie, because you can’t remember lies and if you repeat a lie it changes the truth. You will always remember the truth and the truth never changes. He had a fantastic memory of dates, never a birthdate missed and he had a manner in how to remember your age by remembering your birth year. For all these memories we have, we will truly miss him. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 – 10:55 a.m. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in the Holy Family Parish on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Albert Sayson celebrant. Private family interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations maybe made to the Carmel Hospice, St. Joseph’s Home c/o 156 3rd Street NE, Medicine Hat, T1A 5M1.
