1933 ~ KAHLE ~ 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother and grandmother (Oma) Else Kahle, age 81. She was taken into the arms of her Lord on Monday, August 31st, 2015 as a result of a terrible car accident.
Else was born on September 21st, 1933 in Wincentowo, Poland to Anna and Julius Müller, the fifth eldest of 10 siblings. Her family experienced the trials of the War and was forced to flee their homestead in West Prussia.
Else met the love of her life, Erich Kahle, in Oesingen, Germany and married April 22nd, 1957 in Hannover. In the aftermath of the war they were unable to find a home and make a life in Germany and decided to immigrate to Canada.
Oma and Opa (Else and Erich) arrived in Canada on September 16th, 1957 on the AROSA STAR ship in Montreal, then made their way across Canada by train to join her brother, Arthur, in Medicine Hat who had arrived 5 years earlier.
Cherishing her memory are her loving and faithful husband of 58 years, Erich Kahle; her two sons, Andy Kahle and Dave (Heather) Kahle; and her grandchildren whom she adored, Adam and Emily Kadey and Joshua, Elyssa and Matthew Kahle.
Else is predeceased by her daughter, Christina Kadey; her brother, Arthur; and sisters, Juliana and Lydia.
Also left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Emilie (Alwin) Laich of Medicine Hat, Gertrude (Gerhardt) Forchheim, Erna (Martin) Jendretzke, Emma (Kurt) Holmer; her brothers, Herbert (Marie) Müller and Johann (Ilse) Müller of Germany; and her Godchild, Elizabeth (Marcel) Bergmann; her niece, Esther (Vincent) Thane of Vancouver; and many other nieces and nephews in Canada and Germany.
Else loved the Lord Jesus with all her heart. She was a hardworking and wonderful wife, mother, loving Oma, sister, auntie and friend. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, cross-stitch, making her apple pancakes, walking with Opa in Kin Coulee, relaxing under a tree at Echo Dale Park and giving generously to those around her. Her greatest pleasure was a house full of family, enjoying a meal around the table.
Mom, we love you and we'll be with you one day in Heaven – Ewig verbunden in Liebe.
The prayer service will be held on Saturday, September 19th, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 515 Sprague Way SE, with a luncheon to follow. Family is invited to the graveside following the luncheon.
We regret to share that Opa remains in serious condition at the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops and will not be able to attend the prayer service. At a later time, we are planning a funeral service for Else in Medicine Hat that Erich can attend.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that memorial donations be made to The Lutheran Hour (http://www.lutheranhour.org), Concordia Lutheran Mission Society (http://www.concordiamissions.org), or a charity of your choice.
Thank you to all our family and friends for all your loving prayers and support.

ELMER HALLEY HERN

November 2, 1928 ~ September 8 2015

Elmer Halley Hern of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of Lillian Hern of 62 years passed away on Tuesday September 8, 2015. Elmer also leaves to cherish his memory his children, Rita (Gary) Duren, Betty Lou (Lynn) Fowlie, Judy (Roger) Colbe, Lorrie Fowlie, Eileen (Randy) Rath and Lloyd Hern; 14 grandchildren & 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; his brother, Richard (Darlene) Hern and sister, Elaine (Lloyd) Ferguson. Elmer was predeceased by his parents, Halley Edward Hern and Mary (Klippert ) Hern and his sister, Jean (Hern) Bergstrom.
Elmer was born and raised in the Empress area and attended Chesterfield School. Elmer began working on the farm at a very young age and was extremely proud to purchase his own farmland and machinery in 1953.
He married the beautiful love of his life Lillian (Stienley) Hern on October 25th 1952. They were blessed with 6 children and were married for 62 years. Elmer especially loved being able to hold and welcome all of the newest babies born into the family.
One of Elmer’s greatest farming joys was to go crop checking especially after a good rain. His children learned to be prepared to shovel or push out vehicles, as being stuck in the mud was a common occurrence. Combining was his favorite farming activity; all other farming operations were merely necessary steps leading up to the joy of harvesting. Elmer loved the great outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing or trapping, he was game for it all! Through these outdoor adventures he acquired lifelong friends and had many good times.
He was often the first to welcome newcomers to the town of Empress and into his home for a visit. Elmer made friends easily, happily talking with people wherever he went and being a very kind and generous sprit he helped people as best as he could.
Elmer particularly enjoyed putting together curling teams to go to bonspiels. He enjoyed playing pool and took pleasure in teaching all newcomers to the game. He spent many happy hours playing in the company of family and friends.
In Elmer’s earlier years he could be found at almost any stampede or rodeo in the area and enjoyed being a contestant in events. When he no longer participated he loved to follow the rodeo events and score the contestants.
He liked motorbikes, boating and snowmobiling and even rode his bicycle to get the mail in his later years.
Elmer was an avid Blue Jays Baseball fan and faithfully watched as many games as he could and made fans of those who watched with him.
Elmer had a love for small animals and had many pets in his lifetime; even in his early farm days he had a pet raccoon. Among his favorites was his pet Chihuahua Tim, and Lucy the Dachshund.
Another great joy of Elmer’s life was the love of flying his plane across the golden prairies he called home. Elmer enjoyed flying for over 4 decades and was a member of the Flying Farmers Club. He started flying as a teenager and received his pilot’s license at the age of 18 in Calgary Alberta. He particularly enjoyed flying with skies in the wintertime. He was often called upon for numerous mercy missions in the area including transporting expectant mothers to the Empress Hospital and dropping care packages of food for families snow bound in the harsh prairie winters. The RCMP also called Elmer for assistance on search missions and emergency evacuations.
When Elmer’s flying journey was over and done for the day he would always tip his wings to wave farewell to his friends and family.
The Funeral Service will be held at Westminster United Church, 101 – 6 Street S.E., Medicine Hat on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Shane Andrus officiating. Interment will take place at the Empress Cemetery. SAMUEL

Dorothy Flory Samuel, daughter of Francis and Emelia Quadros, was born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, February 28,1954. She was the youngest of four: Agnel Quadros, Bernie Pinto, and Claire Ackland. Immigration to Canada was based on entrepreneurship in 1981. From this city of millions, to the small prairie village of Consort, Alberta, she raised her children Aqil, Saad, and Sabrina, with her husband Julian. Dorothy then moved to Medicine Hat in 1994, where she lived out her beliefs: Healing happens in community with the help of a Higher Power, children are God's royalty, and several hours of tennis could make any day great. A lot of spare time was spent lovingly caring for her mother, Emelia, as she aged. The least known of her passions was Pooky, her four-legged best buddy, who she took everywhere, and pretended not to like very much. By 2005, Dorothy's purest joys had both arrived. Aden (mother Gina Barnett) and Xavier (mother Dalana Rovensky), upgraded her role to beloved “Grandma Dot”. They had many fond memories together at the Gull Lake cabin. Taught by nuns in grade school, she was again taught deeper lessons by them at St. John's Convent in Calgary, where she resided and worked for a time, enriching her Catholic faith. Loved ones shared moments tender, hopeful, and poignant over the course of her four and a half year cancer experience. Her love imprinted many. So to this life, we say game, set, and match is yours Grandma Dot. Be blessed. We love you.
Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the church on Monday from 10:00 to 10:55 a.m. Family and friends gathered for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL (540 South Railway ST SE) on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. Catholic Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 11:00 am. with Fr. Philip Le celebrant. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. Dorothy requested attendees wear bright colors. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the St. Vincent De Paul Society through Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1B 4V3. To e-mail an expression of sympathy, please direct it to: pattfh@telusplanet.net subject heading: Dorothy Samuel, or you may visit http://www.pattisonfuneralhome.com and leave a message of condolence.
