1949 ~ WEISS ~ 2015

Gary Edward Weiss, beloved husband of Diane Weiss of Medicine Hat, passed away on Wednesday, August 19th, 2015 at the age of 65 years. Gary leaves to cherish his memory his children, Carson (Rondalin) Weiss and Jolene (Shaun) Burkart; four grandchildren, Regena Weiss, Alex Weiss, Iris Burkart and Benjamin Burkart; one step granddaughter, Devony Resch; one sister, Sheila Patterson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gary was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Eva Weiss; one brother, Lyle Weiss; and his father and mother-in-law, Erwin and Mary Walker. Born and raised in Medicine Hat, Gary has always been an avid outdoorsman. In his early 20's, Gary came to love the Walker farm near Hilda not only for the outdoor activities, but a pretty girl he found there named Diane. Later in life Gary enjoyed hunting with his son and granddaughter for ducks, deer and elk. He didn't limit his love of the outdoors to Alberta, he also enjoyed fishing on Lake Ontario with his son-in-law and hunting trips with friends in BC and Saskatchewan. When the hunting and fishing slowed down Gary could be found perfecting his garden and yard. If Gary were ever on the show "Survivor" our family would bet our life savings that he would come out on top! Gary as an outdoorsman will eat anything and can trap and hunt any animal using only materials at hand and his wits. Gary is already terribly missed. The Funeral Service will be held at VICTORY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2793 Southview Drive SE, on Tuesday, August 25th, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Bredesen officiating. Memorial gifts in Gary's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 102 – 1865 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1Z8 or to The Lung Association, Alberta/NWT Division, P.O. Box 4700, Station South, Edmonton, Alberta, T6E 9Z9. Condolences may be sent through http://www.saamis.com or to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Gary Weiss. Trevor Barry Godley

Trevor Barry Godley passed away at home on August 21,2015 with his wife Merle (Linden) at his side. Also left to mourn his passing and cherish happier memories are his two daughters: Dawn Polny of Sangudo and her children Kyle, Stephanie and Alyssa and Pat Godley of Vancouver and her daughters, Amanda and Nicole and his great-grandchildren; his stepdaughter Tracy Linden (Glenn Heather) of Medicine Hat;his sisters Bonnie (Les) Becker of Medicine Hat and their two children and Liz (Carle) Duguid of Calgary and their two children; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Lane and Edna Linden of Medicine Hat and their three sons. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Betty Godley and his brother Darryl.
Barry was born in Medicine Hat but grew up in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
He graduated from St Andrews College with a Masters of Divinity. He was ordained in the United Church of Canada and accepted a three point charge in Saskatchewan. He made many good friends in the Glentworth, Mankota McCord area where they appreciated his down to earth sermons.
Barry then accepted a call from Sioux Lookout Ontario. During this period of time Barry became a single parent. His girls have fond memories of living in their cabin and peaceful canoe rides.
In 1975, Barry returned to Medicine Hat where he accepted a position with Alberta Social Services. Barry administered the A.I.S.H. Program almost his entire career. His compassion and reassuring manner made this a perfect fit for him. He was so knowledgeable about so many different health concerns that colleagues from the whole province sought his counsel.
Fate brought Merle and Barry together in 1979. Working in very similar areas of social work, they were often in attendance at case conferences, and soon they were looking for excuses to interact. They married in 1983, and the friendship that brought them together allowed them to weather the storms caused by Barry's failing health.
A gifted photographer, Barry saw beauty all around him. His favorite dog was one of his favorite subjects and he always managed to capture her unique personality.
Growing up surrounded by music, Barry had a life long love of hymns. Singing in the church choir provided friendship and nurtured his spirit.
Barry's passion was building and flying radio-controlled gliders. Happiness was taking his newest creation for a test flight and finding a strong thermal (and not crashing). He formed a friendship with another enthusiast and together they built a full size plane that is still flying.
Although he was plagued by health issues for many years, he always graced us with his kind humor and gentle smile.
As you carry on your journey, may your final flight be joyous and may your soul soar with the eagles.
The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Blaine Schaufele officiating. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the S.P.C.A. – 55 Southwest Drive SW, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 8E8 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, Medicine Hat and District Branch 102 73 7th Street SE, Medicine Hat T1A 1J2.
